Thought I’d set the new month up as @yogachick has other exciting things to focus on!

Today I’m doing a live Reflections and Resolutions Workshop of Sarah Beth’s and I’m starting her 4 week menstrual cycle calendar with a gentle video for Cramps.

@PatienceOfEngels canals and rivers are very relaxing, I find myself missing them at times. Have you tried any 5 minute videos? Sarah Beth has plenty and they’d be very hard to get distracted from…though maybe harder to settle in to lol.

Yay! Thanks @Poisonwood . Meditation for me again today but all part of a well rounded practice

PatienceOfEngels · 01/12/2024 15:02

I'm going to bookmark some 5-10 minute practices playlists @Poisonwood . I think that'll be less daunting on busy days and help keep me motivated to get through the rest of my main playlist this month.

Will start with some of these: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLui6Eyny-UzwiUzvhM2BjxThodiRWZ2JR

@PatienceOfEngels I’ve been impressed with the 5 min videos of Sarah Beth’s I’ve done. The “core” ones make my weakest spot far less daunting… I’m thinking I should maybe try a month of doing one daily and seeing my progression.

OP posts:
Jumbojem · 01/12/2024 22:05

@Poisonwood that sounds like something I should do (the 5 mins core everyday). I did once say I was going to do so the YWA Day 6s. I'm good at saying these things, less so at execution.
I've yet to try Sarah Beth but need to give her a try.
I have started the month with no yoga today, even though I ought to have as did a running event yesterday and had pretty achey legs this am. Aiming to get up early tomorrow and get started.

Jumbojem · 02/12/2024 20:46

20 min mobility yoga with SB this morning. It was certainly different to YWA/Kassandra and I found it a bit tricky to follow in places. But overall enjoyed it and felt it was the right mix of challenge/ comfortable.
Won't have time for yoga before work tomorrow but will try to do a short post work one as my legs are already stiff from a run this eve.

Poisonwood · 02/12/2024 21:47

@Jumbojem I found it very different at the beginning, but right from the start my body really appreciated the sequencing, more than with anyone else. It didn’t take me long to find my stride, I’m sure it wouldn’t you either.

I did SB 30 min energising flow, 10 min diastsis recti routine, 5min burn core and then my 1.5hr in person yoga class. Managed eagle pose for first time. 😊

2.5 hour drive to hospital and now staying in as DD needs appendix out. Managed 5 min asana and I’ll meditate in the chair by her bed overnight.

OP posts:
Jumbojem · 03/12/2024 21:07

@Poisonwood hope DD is ok. Impressed you managed the 5 minutes, and that you will meditate whilst sitting by a hospital bed. You have a stronger will than I think I would in those circumstances.

I decided to do a YWA one tonight, yoga for calves but forgot it had a three lots of planks and a lot of time on your wrists for a so say calves and ankle stretch practice. I envisaged ankle rotations, foot flexing rather than a lot of time in plank and down dog?! It's one of those where she says to go into plank, then spends ages talking about/demoing variations when you want to shout at her that she's left you hanging in plank. When she finally gets into plank herself does a slow tortuous countdown from 3. Sorry, it wasn't what I wanted and I'm cross about it🤣

Poisonwood · 03/12/2024 21:42

@Jumbojem thanks, think it’s going to be a long night but we’re in the best place.

I know exactly what you mean about being left in a pose whilst she goes off on a chat, you’re mentally begging her to stop lol. It’s frustrating when you think a practice is one thing and it ends up another.

I’m kicking myself that I took my yoga mat out of my car earlier after my yoga class last night - it would have been useful to lay out to sleep on here. My daughter had mentioned me getting a second one to keep in the car for classes and I didn’t have the money but I’m definitely looking in the January sales!

Hope DD is doing OK @Poisonwood ,am also impressed you’re using your yoga to help you through this scary time.
@PatienceOfEngels yup,the angst is real, both in a title that doesn’t seem to resemble the practice and the meandering chat 🤯
Sarah Beth from the calendar today, first asana practice in a while,20 min Flow & Stretch, delicious after so many sedentary days. We’re so lucky we get to share these first few days with our precious granddaughter before we fly home at the weekend🐣

Poisonwood · 04/12/2024 19:29

15 minute Salutation A today. Don’t want to do more as floor isn’t that grippy. Have meditated a fair bit though. DD recovering, thanks @Yogachick amd I’m so happy you get such special time with your granddaughter.

Back home. 30 min SB Energy Flow but I was rubbish with it if I’m honest as I feel so weak tonight.

OP posts:
Poisonwood · 06/12/2024 22:18

An hour of SB. Peace Flow, very nice, and a 15min full body video.

Yogachick · 07/12/2024 19:16

Still going! Yesterday in the airport I did calming Meditation for Anxiety & Stress relief,SB calm voice was balm to my soul. I don’t mind flying,I struggle with all the airport chaos though.
Today was the calendar Yoga for Anger then thought of @Poisonwood plan to add 5 min abs practice in ,so added 5 min beginner abs. Popping a chaturunga in totally detracts from the beginner element but I modified as always

Poisonwood · 08/12/2024 08:38

@Yogachick airport chaos is the perfect time for meditation, clever thinking.
Yesterday I did 2 x 30 min SB, not as much as I would have liked but I just feel wrung out tbh. Today I’m doing an SB live practice plus I’ll look for some deep-stretch videos too.

OP posts:
Yogachick · 08/12/2024 20:13

10 min morning stretch this evening followed by 5 min quick abs, much preferred this one, lots of good teaching cues

Poisonwood · 09/12/2024 12:12

20 min power yoga video, 20 min hatha, then tonight I’ve my 1.5 hour in-person class.

OP posts:
Jumbojem · 09/12/2024 15:20

20 min SB morning mobility this am. Still need to get used to her, she uses some diff poses/terms and I got caught out when she mentioned moving into a pose when I was facing away from the screen so couldn't easily turn to see what she meant. Also it felt a little challenging. I am aiming to get more used to her though so I can do the Jan challenge as I will miss the absence of a YWA one.
Had a really painful hip so going to try her hip mobility one, although I think the pain is an overuse injury from running so not totally sure stretching is the right thing for it, but it does ease the pain.

Yogachick · 09/12/2024 17:49

@Jumbojem ,she’s different for sure, hopefully you’ll settle in. Can’t advise you on the hip but if it eases the pain surely that’s a good thing?
calendar for me again today,Chest & Back Stretch( love this one) and pain relief meditation. I’m on Day 25,unheard of for me!

Yogachick · 10/12/2024 20:27

Meditation for 5 senses from the calendar, then added in 30 min stretch to unwind tight neck and hips, that was a nice one. Im so very tired and stiff atm so needed it

Poisonwood · 10/12/2024 21:58

@Jumbojem I definitely find SB more of a challenge…but also even more of an all-body “ahhh” afterwards too. I was told by my rheumatology consultant last week to seek out the deep stretches that ease my hips, so it sounds like you should be helping your hip. Will you see someone soon if it doesn’t improve?

@Yogachick you’re doing well, especially with not feeling great…tiredness and stiffness take a toll mentally.

I did SB 60 min power yoga class this evening and boy did I feel it. Think I’ll save that one for earlier in the day!

I volunteered for a charity winter solstice 108 sun salutations (yoga teacher lovely, and persuasive lol) so I’m nervously thinking I need to train up a bit the next 11 days.

OP posts:
PatienceOfEngels · 11/12/2024 18:26

I have completely lost my yoga mojo atm! Just trying to get through to the end of term (teacher). The days are so gloomy at the moment - I need more sparkly lights.

Poisonwood · 11/12/2024 18:41

@PatienceOfEngels remember, you can’t pour from an empty cup. End of term plus Christmas - no wonder your mojo is low! My yoga teacher has some fairy lights for when she dims the top lights for shavasana and it makes such a difference. Could you try some restorative yoga by candlelight/fairy light?

My yoga today has been solely Sun As. Has also been in my tatty old underwear as the fire is kicking out a huge amount of heat - homemade hot yoga!
