Always aiming for consistency in my practice, when I manage it I reap huge benefits and am a nicer person🄰

This is definitely a new thing @HomemadeHallie ! My kids have just reached the stage where they will sleep in a little (9yo) or a lot (12yo) so they don't jump out of bed as soon as my foot hits the stair. DH is grumbling that I'm waking him up at 6am but more times as not he will wake me up anyway if I don't set my alarm (not a blurry one...birdsong and a gentle light which I turn off within 4 seconds!). Not sure how long I will keep this up but it is the first time of my life I've done (and kept up) exercise before breakfast.

HomemadeHallie · 05/09/2024 22:07

@PatienceOfEngels aw that’s so good! Mine are still small ages 5 and 4 years so maybe something for me to aim for in the future 🤩
you’re doing amazing, I’m sure you’ll keep it up and we will cheer you along šŸ™‚

PatienceOfEngels · 06/09/2024 04:54

@HomemadeHallie I've just remembered the time I went to a Zen meditation course and our homework the first week was to meditate for 20 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes at night.

I crept upstairs to the attic office as quietly as I could and within 2 minutes of me starting toddler DC2 was standing at the gate at the bottom of the stairs era louder calling 'Mama, mama, mama!' because he just knew I was there. Meditation abandoned but not before DC1 woke up and DH. I decided mornings were just not possible! I was the only persons on the course with young children and no one else seemed to understand my problem.

That was the last time I tried to do anything in the morning before the DC get up as they have ears on elastic and will not stay in bed. This is the first time in 7 years it's actually worked šŸ˜‚Long may it continue.

I'm definitely more of a morning person.

PatienceOfEngels · 06/09/2024 06:23

Day 7 of Move YWA (23mins). Enjoyed this practice. Though I hate chair pose! Day 8 is restorative so may do it as an extra today or save it for a busy working day next week.

PatienceOfEngels · 07/09/2024 07:26

Day 8 of Move (32 mins). Turns out I did need a restful practice after all - it's been a long and stressful week. Blue skies again and sun already up when I headed out at 7. Tiny snails on our deck as it rained heavy last night so had to clear them before I started!

PatienceOfEngels · 08/09/2024 06:36

Day 9 of Move (22 mins). Nice practice, not too long, though I did have to take a break when she was doing fire hydrants and also paused during tree pose and my friend the bat was having a good fly about.

DH is complaining about me waking him up when I get up to do yoga. I don't set the alarm at the weekend and often I wake up because he's gone to use the bathroom or is restless. 2 mornings a week I would get up that early for work anyway and the last few months he's often up before 6:30 and downstairs. Tbh he ALWAYS complains about his sleep and it's always someone else's fault for breathing/snoring/moving/using the bathroom. He never looks at his own behaviour patterns and makes changes to try and improve his sleep (dealing with stress, losing weight - not that he needs to atm, stopping drinking alcohol/evening snacking). I'm still going to keep getting up early on my work days to fit it in for now as once the weather really turns I know I won't. I might just go to work earlier once October hits as I can do yoga in my classroom (performing arts so have mats, mirror, space) but then I'll still wake him up leaving the house!

Have a good yoga week everyone.

HomemadeHallie · 08/09/2024 22:21

Hey everyone! Not a good start to September as haven’t done anything for last few days!!
Been in a bit of a funk with work and kids and usual stresses. Due on my period too. So just a bit blahhhh.

anyway I made myself today and have just done 30 mins Cat Meffan - yoga for stress! Was much needed and feel heaps better now.

well done still getting up @PatienceOfEngels, you’re doing amazing!
my dh sleeps like a log and doesnt even hear his alarms, I’m usually shoving him awake to turn them off 🤣

PatienceOfEngels · 09/09/2024 05:57

Day 10 of YWA Move (29mins). Nice practice - just started raining as I finished! Slept awfully so may try to sleep a bit more tomorrow and do yoga once the kids are at school.

PatienceOfEngels · 10/09/2024 07:05

Day 11 of YWA Move (24mins). Some good stretches for the hips. Not too much hard work today. Sleep so much better last night and had set alarm for a bit later. Felt really autumnal this morning for the first time. Sunrise is getting later! Not up till about 7am here now.

PatienceOfEngels · 11/09/2024 06:52

Woken up by during rain this morning so no outside practice. still got up early and did my morning jobs then yoga in the bedroom after DH was up.

Move Day 12 Focus (24 minutes) good stretch with a bit of balance.

PatienceOfEngels · 12/09/2024 07:38

Back outside today for Move day 13 (20 mins) Flight - not a fan of balancing stuff but plenty of other moves in the practice to keep me happy.

happytobemrsg · 12/09/2024 18:27

hello everyone šŸ‘‹šŸ» I’ve been on previous threads doing YWA 30 days of yoga supplemented with some in person classes locally but then I got pregnant with DC3 & my practice slipped. Im now nearly 4m postpartum & doing 1-2 in person classes a week at David Lloyd (1 regular, 1 Yin Yoga). I’m also in the home gym a couple of times a week.

I tried getting into Move but it seemed a bit much with everything else I’m doing. I remember enjoying doing the sun salutation in class. Is there a YouTube video you’d recommend which goes through this 3 or 4 times? Thinking of adding this daily upon waking.

Jumbojem · 12/09/2024 20:47

@PatienceOfEngels wow you are doing amazing with the early morning and outdoor practices! I am just lazy and procrastinate and end up watching crap on YT then only leave time for a 10 min practice (yoga with Kassandra is brill for 10/15 min a.m ones!).
@happytobemrsg hello! I remember your name from one of the earlier YWA 30 day threads. Crikey, that must have been before the pregnancy and now you have a 4mth old? Time sure flies but congratulations on the baby. Did you get to use that yoga breathing in the labour I wonder😁
I did a Charlie Follows one recently where it starts with a couple of rounds of salute to the sun,I'll look back and see if I can find it.

Jumbojem · 12/09/2024 20:56
it was this one where she starts with two slow rounds of salute to sun, then a couple of faster rounds. Was a good one. I do like Charlie but some are a bit challenging for where I am at the moment so I need to do the ones labelled beginner or all abilities until I build a bit more strength.

happytobemrsg · 12/09/2024 22:04

@Jumbojem It was a very stressful pregnancy (my waters broke at 31 weeks!) so lots of yoga breathing while they took my blood pressure šŸ˜‚

That video looks great, thank you! Will check it out.

Anyone who struggles with consistency, I’d recommend getting the Habit app. I have a widget on the front screen on my iPhone & I love ticking it off every day, looking at stats etc (I love making lists & ticking things off!)

PatienceOfEngels · 13/09/2024 05:39

@happytobemrsg you sound like you're doing a lot already! I find when I'm focusing on one thing, then other things do fall by the wayside. During the summer holidays I managed daily yoga and at least 10,000 steps a day. Since I got back to work steps have been much less consistent and I've prioritised yoga instead.

This might fit your bill?

@Jumbojem I really struggle to practice in the evening. Our house is fairly small, my DC find it difficult to be in the same room without killing each other so it's not very zen on a busy work/school day!

Just done day 14 of Move (20mins). Got up earlier than usual as was awake and it was properly dark outside (still is actually). Day was clear though and could see Orion in the sky. Getting cold though - especially my fingers and toes. I love practicing outside so much but think this is the beginning of the end for 2024!

happytobemrsg · 13/09/2024 10:51

@PatienceOfEngels I just did the practice you linked to (minus the crazy amount of time in downward dog at the start) & it was lovely thank you! Hoping to do this on days I’m not in home gym or in a face to face yoga class.

Love that you practice outside! I did that a few times last year but missed out on the nice weather this year. My yoga room (aka the lounge since we all live in the kitchen area) has been taken over by a baby play gym and a Melissa & Doug kitchen. And my steam diffuser broke. It’s not very relaxing. Will have to sort this out!

PatienceOfEngels · 14/09/2024 07:34

I might favourite it as well @happytobemrsg as it'd be handy to have a quick practice I could do in the kitchen before everyone else gets up.

Out at 7 this morning for Move day 15 (20mins). Okay practice but felt like I didn't really do much!

Went out with some socks on as could feel the chill in the air. Tomorrow I need to add socks and something for my neck šŸ˜‚

PatienceOfEngels · 14/09/2024 08:21

Decided I'm going to do Home once I've finished Move. October will be a bit more of a hectic month as I have a work trip, DC birthday and trip to UK over half term.

happytobemrsg · 14/09/2024 10:36

Still hoping to do the morning practice today but I’m in sole charge of the baby & my 2 other DC this morning so I’m not sure how to do it. About to do a bottle, hoping a milk drunk baby will be more reasonable and let me practice while he watches quietly…. Forgot to bring my yoga clothes downstairs so that’s a whole other hurdle. So much easier when I have everything to hand!

happytobemrsg · 14/09/2024 11:54

Managed to do the morning practice linked to above. It puts me in a much better mood! Going in the gym later this afternoon when DH can watch the DC so a 10 minute yoga practice was perfect

PatienceOfEngels · 15/09/2024 12:36

Well done @happytobemrsg !

Did Move day 16 (22mins) today. Struggled a bit with some of the balances but can really feel the difference in my body. 76 practices over the last 2.5 monthsšŸŽ‰

happytobemrsg · 15/09/2024 17:14

Was feeling super achy from yesterday so searched for a slow stretchy practice. Ended up doing this one which was lovely but I think I’ve been spoilt by my in person yin yoga class as I wanted the stretches to be held for a bit longer. Didn’t want the practice to end so I did a few sun salutations at the end (from memory!!!!!) Feeling much better.

Oh & I’ve also sorted out the lounge so it’s much more relaxing for practice. Importantly: No toys šŸ˜‚ I need to get some candles or something though

YWA Move day 17 (22minutes). Restorative and close to the floor today. Decided I'm rushing on early work days to get practice done at home so did this at school in my classroom when I arrived.

happytobemrsg · 16/09/2024 15:33

Are you a teacher @PatienceOfEngels ? What year?

Had my in person class today. AF is particularly heavy today (still sorting itself out post pregnancy) & it was tough dragging myself out of the house but I did it. I try to remember that I always regret not exercising but never regret exercising.

it was a really tough practice today (50 mins). I sweated loads. No class tomorrow as I’m going in home gym but would like to get a quick morning session in if possible.
