BREATH - yoga with Adrienne thread January 2020

Assuming no one has started a support thread already?

So I wanted to have a place to give and receive support! I do these every year and do YWA almost every day anyway and have done since 2015.

The Calendar showing length of each one is here

I'm really looking forward to it and did her 5 minutes intro today and then a 20 minute one from dedicate. As far as timings are concerned she posts at 12 noon Texas time which is 6pm in UK. But I find that first thing in the morning her email has the link which I click on and start and then it's lined up in my YouTube feed ahead of when it would actually drop onto YouTube. Because I do my yoga first thing in the morning.

Good luck everyone, hoping this year is a stonker at least for yoga!

@SomethingPunny it does get easier! You can always pause and take your time or get into position at your own pace.

@SomethingPunny I honestly find flow really difficult, I am not svelt and have always found transitioning between poses tricky. Just stick to getting there the best way you can without damaging yourself and do the next bit when you get there. I'm just thankful that the flow sequences aren't too long as so out of practice right now!

Day 3 ✅

I'm really enjoying this so far but I'm really struggling to flow into the poses the way Adriene does. It's much more of a stop start process for me with lots of adjustments and modifications! I'm hoping that's something that will come with time though and at the moment I'm just concentrating on showing up and joining in each day. This thread is definitely helping 😊

Totally agree with this, I find it awkward to look at the screen and keep the positions. We only have a small living room too so I kept hitting the sofa last night!
Weepingwillows12 · 04/01/2021 11:38

I cant flow like she does. I tend to add in extra breaths between moves to give me a chance so I am still doing the right move matching either breathe in or out but I have a few extra breaths in the middle

SugarSurfing · 04/01/2021 18:18

Did day 3 today at lunchtime while WFH - hoping to stick to that time slot, at least during the week.

I prefer the shorter ones - 25 min or less and like you Soover kept looking at the time left both yesterday and today.

RecipeStealingBitch I used to look at the screen all the time, but mostly know now what the position is like so can get there without looking - but I don't think I'll ever look like Adriene! When she makes a long explanation in the middle of moving to another position I find that really difficult - like today when we were going into warrior 1 - was trying to balance in awkward shape not knowing quite where I was going to.

Sooverthemill · 04/01/2021 19:28

I confess that I rarely look at the screen and if I do I usually fall, over. At the start today I was distracted by her lip colour, she doesn't wear make up very often

Enjoyed today's practice! Feeling pretty demotivated today, with everything going on in the world, and really struggled to get out of bed and do it. A nice, on the floor practice was great!

Sooverthemill · 05/01/2021 09:01

I loved day 4. It seemed very slow to start but I kept reminding myself that this was mindful yoga not power yoga! It's building up nicely I think. Tricky doing the nose to knee stuff with a kitten in my lap though( she climbs on whenever I'm lying down) but maybe it's improving my core!

I enjoyed today, but I find it difficult to find the videos. They don't seem to come up on her youtube feed until later in the day.

Have you subscribed to the emails? If you do, you get an email every day with the link to click and it comes up in YouTube. I click at 6 when I get up and it's all lined up for when I start no matter when she uploads

subscribe

thank you, I am subscribed, but don't think to look at my emails. Sorted!

Day 5 was fab. But I did it almost as soon as I woke up which was a bit tough, usually I have half an hour wake up time. Anyone else surprised how fast we are getting into forearm planks, hovering table etc. ? I found the eagle pose with little bend quite challenging today but did enjoy the session

Beketaten · 06/01/2021 10:27

I'm really not enjoying this programme, and I've been doing yoga for a while and really like Adriene ☹️. It just feels like a lot of breathing and a lot of planks, so it feels alternately like nothing and too hard. And I get very cold!

I know the whole point is the mental challenge as well as the physical, so I will try to stick with it, but I'm not looking forward to the daily sessions as it doesn't feel like a good workout, or any other benefits, yet. I trust Adriene though, so we'll see how it goes.

Weepingwillows12 · 06/01/2021 10:43

I am a bit undecided to for exactly that reason. Sometimes too slow and sometimes too hard but I am going to keep at it. I actually enjoy the slow stuff but just wanted a bit more push on fitness and feels more meditationy. Still good for me just not what I planned.

SomethingPunny · 06/01/2021 10:50

Day 4 ✅

I'm a day behind now because I wasn't feeling well yesterday and skipped the day. Turns out yesterday's session would actually have been just the right pace for me (apart from the hovering table thingies!) so lesson learnt, next time I'll try to get on the mat however I'm feeling. I'll either try to fit an extra session in one afternoon/evening or I'll just carry on a day behind everyone.

Beketaten Sorry to hear that you're not enjoying the program so far. It does feel very much geared towards beginners which is great for me but I can understand why that would be frustrating for someone who's been practicing a long time.

Sooverthemill · 06/01/2021 11:37

I thjnk this program was planned with quarantine in mind so lots of mindfulness, breathing control etc. But some good strength building too. I trust that it will build into a great month.

OP posts:
Beketaten · 06/01/2021 11:42

Oh, I'm definitely not finding it too easy - I'm actually finding it really hard as it's not any of the routines or poses I know, and a lot of static plank. I hope it isn't putting off people who are new to yoga.

I've been using the Downward Dog app over the last few months (which I really recommend) and got used to that style. Haven't done today's Breath session yet.

BurningGubbins · 06/01/2021 14:52

Yes, I can’t say I’m loving it either and I’m not an old hand. I finished a 30 day yoga for weight loss programme (not Adrienne) just before Christmas, having never really done any before. I am finding Breath quite boring by comparison. I’ll stick at it but it doesn’t feel like it’s doing as much for me.

RecipeStealingBitch · 06/01/2021 16:22

I’ve missed the last couple of days, first one I missed after the chaos with schools was revealed, and last night I had an awful headache and period pains. Gonna try jump back in the saddle tonight Smile

DunravenBadger · 06/01/2021 16:32

I've done one day of this - accidentally, I'd actually started on Day 1 Home but Day 2 clicked the wrong one by mistake and didn't realise until 5 mins in so carried on. Anyway, just wondering if it's worth sticking with? I have a joint condition so was doing the yoga (some of her other videos) for strengthening / stretching purposes really. Is it worth sticking with Breathe or finding an alternative?

Sooverthemill · 06/01/2021 16:47

@DunravenBadger I answered you on the other thread!

Hi Everyone, I’m on day five and it was a tough one. Loved her leggings though, wondering where they’re from.

She has a sponsorship deal with Adidas so almost certainly from them.
Sooverthemill · 07/01/2021 09:22

I think she wears Adidas but they are identifiable easily. She wears independent local brands a lot and sometimes mentions them on her vlog this is one here

I liked today!

For those who’ve followed her 30 day programmes in the past, what kind of changes did you see in yourselves after finishing?
