I am a remote worker however have been asked to attend the office one day a week, they are moving offices shortly, so will now take longer, so just wondered, what others distance to work is.

I wfh, but when I do have to go into the office it can take between 1-2hrs. Sometimes I go to different sites which can take anything from an hour to four hours.

Talipesmum · 23/03/2025 10:12

About 35 mins drive each way.
DH has about an hour each way door to door - walk, train, walk.

BuffaloCauliflower · 23/03/2025 10:12

I go to the office two days a week and it takes about 1.5-2hours in the morning, and about an hour-1.20 in the evening. I drive.

shivermetimbers77 · 23/03/2025 10:13

I go in five days a week and it takes me 40 mins each way to cycle .

RosesAndHellebores · 23/03/2025 10:13

About 35 minutes and I prefer working from the office.

DressDilemma · 23/03/2025 10:13

2.5 hours each side. I need to go in 1 day a week though.

SoScarletItWas · 23/03/2025 10:13

37 miles. Takes me about an hour by car.

Previously, Birmingham to London by train. Every day (before Covid). 2.5hrs door to door.

Before that, 65 or 25 miles depending on which office I was going to.

First job, 10 minute walk.

All my jobs have stated my base as a named office on my contract. Never had a remote contract.

DampTree · 23/03/2025 10:14

Around 3 hours per day in total door to door. Four days per week, soon to be five.
My job only exists in London but I can’t afford to live there so that’s my only option.

ItTook9Years · 23/03/2025 10:14

I go in 8-10 days a month. It’s a. 3.5-4 hour journey each way so I go twice a month for 4-5 days.

SwanOfThoseThings · 23/03/2025 10:15

10 minutes on foot.

I do 'pay' for this convenience in that I could have got a much cheaper house not within walking distance of my office, but as I don't drive and public transport is crap where I live, it made sense to avoid a commute.

BlumminFreezin · 23/03/2025 10:16

It's about 6 miles away, takes 25 minutes to drive in with traffic. I have to go two days a week.

IDontLikePinaColadas · 23/03/2025 10:17

It’s about an hour door to door depending on public transport in London on the day…

DollopOfFun · 23/03/2025 10:17

I go into the office 2 days a week. 10 mins in the car, but I prefer to walk, which is an hour each way.

WinterNightStars · 23/03/2025 10:18

30 mins each way - full on site working.
DH - 1hr 15 each way usually once a week, WFH other days

SoftPlaySaturdays · 23/03/2025 10:18

20 min walk.

DH is either WFH or 10 mins walk + 10 mins train + 5 mins walk.

I know we are lucky to be able to choose this though.

HorrorFan81 · 23/03/2025 10:18

I wfh 4 days a week. On days when I go in, it's a 25 minute walk or a 7 minute drive. I'm v lucky! My DH is similar - wfh with an occasional office day - his is 10 minutes walk away

Enko · 23/03/2025 10:19

Its a 3 hour commute. I go once or twice a month depending on meetings. I get paid. Travel and hotel overnights

Titasaducksarse · 23/03/2025 10:19

30 mins but can do in 20 on a good day.
I go in maybe once a week but the nature of my job is that I could be doing community visits 2 or 3 days a week so will combine with office day.

BlueyDragon · 23/03/2025 10:26

When public transport is working, 1hr 10 to 1hr 30 minutes one way. Drive, train, tube (London based). In the office 3-4 times a week. The cost is becoming more of a killer than the commute time, it has risen astronomically and the reliability is reducing, particularly of trains.

intrepidpanda · 23/03/2025 10:27

50min each way. In daily

JoyousEagle · 23/03/2025 10:31

Depends on the office. My local one, 10 min drive. The London office, an hour.

VerySkilledFirefighter · 23/03/2025 10:33

1-1.5h each way, 2-3 times a week

Loveanewusername · 23/03/2025 10:33

It’s 2000 steps to my work , it takes about 15 minutes.

it tends to take longer to drive it as I have to drive past two schools, however if it’s not school time , about 90 seconds 🤣

interestingly because of the bus routes it takes two buses should I ever do that (I haven’t yet 🤣)

TheGriffle · 23/03/2025 10:34

I go in once a week, takes half an hour, 20 mins during school holidays.
Our office relocated during covid and for people where it was further away to travel to they got a relocation allowance for so many months, does your work do anything like that?

MajorCarolDanvers · 23/03/2025 10:35

I wfh and go to the office once a month. It’s 450 miles way and I fly. Takes 4.5 hours door to door. I usually stay 2-3 days. All expenses covered by work.
