I am a remote worker however have been asked to attend the office one day a week, they are moving offices shortly, so will now take longer, so just wondered, what others distance to work is.

I’m about an hour train walk bus

Gundogday · 23/03/2025 10:40

Allow half an hour for a 15-20 minute drive.

NoWordForFluffy · 23/03/2025 10:40

About 70 minutes door to door, which is walk, train, walk. I only have to go in once a week.

Chickoletta · 23/03/2025 10:43

10-20 mins depending on traffic.

Picklepower · 23/03/2025 10:45

WFH four days, 1 day in the office with a 20 minutes drive each way

BitOutOfPractice · 23/03/2025 10:47

10 minute walk. Maybe less. It is one of the joys of my life and that’s not hyperbole because I remember having much longer, more miserable commutes and I also remember wfh and how I hated that.

Axalotllittle · 23/03/2025 10:47

12 minutes door to door. Or four minutes from my children's school. It's all worked out by sheer coincidence really well

ThirdStorm · 23/03/2025 10:47

I’ve never had a job that’s more than 30 mins drive each way. I generally end up doing lots of travelling with the job so prefer actual commute to be short especially if I’m there regularly. The job I do doesn’t tend to lend itself to lots of working at home, one day a week at most.

OneQuirkyPanda · 23/03/2025 10:48

45-50 mins each way door to door, I do condensed hours and wfh one day a week, so go in three days week.

Upsetbetty · 23/03/2025 10:49

18 minutes driving. I wfh 2-3 days a week

jenniferyellowdress · 23/03/2025 10:51

30-40 minute drive, I only go in twice per week though. Outside of rush hour it would be more like 20 minutes.

AuntieBsBramble · 23/03/2025 10:54

Currently I do a 20 mins walk it is infinitely preferable to the 2.5hr commute I used to do into London but job not as interesting.

I think stats show average commute as 27min and I'm sure I've seen stats that it impacts your wellbeing if it is over 1 hour.

This gov survey interestingly shows length of commute varies by vehicle (or probably the vehicle you use varies on how far away your work is). But the majority of commutes are by car and less than 30 mins

Between 30-40 minutes drive each way. It’s only 11 miles but no direct main roads there so it’s all narrow windy country back lanes and then I hit traffic on the outskirts of the town.
I go in 2-3 times a week.
My old office was a 12 minute drive away but they closed it and reopened the new one. It’s a bit of a pain in the arse but they do pay the excess fuel allowance. And I do actually like being in the office so all fine with me.

LBOCS2 · 23/03/2025 10:55

50 minutes door to door, it’s a fairly standard London commute. I mostly work from
home nowadays but have been working at this company since before Covid.

EternalAutumn · 23/03/2025 10:56

I’m an office manager so I am in the office everyday, although there is plenty I could do from home. It takes me about 15 mins drive door to door. We have just issued a back in the office notice (not my decision by the way, I support WFH) and we have people that commute anything from 10 mins to 2 hours to get into the office daily as normal

Hellohah · 23/03/2025 10:57

35 minutes each way, 5 minutes drive, 20 minutes on the train, 10 minutes walk.

HurdyGurdy19 · 23/03/2025 10:59

Normal commute is around 10 seconds.

On the rare days I go into the office it's about a 40 minute drive.

If I had to take public transport, it would take about two and a half hours.

In the past, my commute would be - drive to the station, train to London, tube to the station nearest to the office then walk. Took about two hours. Did this until I was eight months pregnant.

TappyGilmore · 23/03/2025 11:11

It’s just under 5 miles.

In rush hour morning traffic it takes about an hour, that is including a ten minute walk from the car park to the office.

In evening rush hour it’s considerably less, often around the 30 minute mark (again including the 10 minute walk back to the car).

rc22 · 23/03/2025 11:11

25-30 minutes each way. I have a rural commute so traffic is OK but can be held up by tractors!!

StMarie4me · 23/03/2025 11:17

50 minutes. It’s only 12 miles bit traffic is awful.

merryhouse · 23/03/2025 11:19

Depends how cold it is and whether I have a hangover. I have been known to do it in 30 minutes but it's usually nearer 40.

On the way back can be as much as 45 because it's uphill.

(Approx 2 mile walk)

LadyJaneEarlGreyTea · 23/03/2025 11:27

70 minutes each way by public transport four times a week

The return journey is becoming increasingly stressful with delays and severe overcrowding a daily feature. I seem to have men physically pushing me out of the way so they can get on the carriage or through the barriers in front of me most days. I’m no shrinking violet but I’m not tall so I think they just see me as easy to shove.

Shergill15 · 23/03/2025 11:48

If in the car about 15-20 minutes depending on traffic. On public transport it's either 2 buses or a 20 minute walk and one bus and takes probably just under an hour all in.

plantfan · 23/03/2025 11:50

2 hours door to door so 4 hours a day, and that's on a good day. It was my choice to move though so have to accept the consequences. I hate it.

Sal17690 · 23/03/2025 12:11

Just under ten mins in the car. I drop DC at before school club on the way, so allow 15 minutes door to door. DW does school pick up so my journey home is less than 10 mins.
