What's your best work gossip/drama?

I'm self-employed (and love it), but I do miss the gossip and petty work drama. Anything good to share?

In my past jobs, the most shocking was a TA who lied and said that she had given medication to a kid when she hadn't (because she had forgotten). Not really gossip, but I also had a coworker who literally hadn't eaten any vegetables her whole adult life.

Former colleague in law firm jailed for stealing from clients. We worked together in my first job. I was completing the vocational part of my professional training and she was the PA (secretary) to the senior partner. Partner was semi retired and worked part time. She didn’t answer to anyone else & was very much the self-appointed queen bee; bullied junior staff did more or less what she wanted. No professional qualifications but she styled herself as a legal exec. Basically got the job because her father and SP played golf together & moved in same social circles. After her conviction (she’d moved to a different firm by then) there had to be a forensic exam of all the cases she’d dealt with (100s) to make sure she hadn’t defrauded anyone else. She was always so holier than thou in her dealings with management - the main reason no one dared to report the bullying (constant put downs, snide remarks, belittling people) - that they would never have suspected her of anything: certainly not widescale theft.

Just remembered another one. I was working in a huge corporate and one of the managers was convicted and jailed for murdering his wife. I think he used a knife. He had seemed the loveliest bloke at work and would never have suspected him capable of doing it.

Years ago now, the sales manager at a company I worked for told everyone she’d been diagnosed with cancer. There was a big fundraiser, and obviously she was off work a lot. One day she just didn’t come back and people were worried her condition had deteriorated. It turned out she’d invented the whole thing and had pocketed the fundraiser money herself. I’ve no idea how she got away with it for so long (I would have thought she’d have to provide medical letters?) or how she got caught.

At the same workplace, there was a Christmas party where we all had hotel rooms. I didn’t find out until afterwards, but the warehouse manager, who’d had this flirty thing going on with the (married) office manager, had invited her up to his hotel room. She’d confided in our colleague as she was in a quandary - she loved her husband, but really fancied warehouse man and was very tempted (God knows why). However, not half an hour later the office cleaner also confided in the same colleague that warehouse man had invited her up to his room too and that they’d been having it off for a while! He was obviously hedging his bets and would have invented some excuse if both had said yes!

Years later at a much bigger company, our big boss got the sack because he’d been shagging the account manager from our printing company and had awarded them millions of pounds worth of contracts. We were all doubly shocked as we’d thought she was a lesbian 😆

Mine story isn't scandalous or salacious, it's just tragic and heartbreaking.

A colleague took his own life and had killed one of his children before doing so. His wife and other child found them. It was a dreadful, dreadful thing.

Cocolapew · 09/06/2024 12:52

Weedophile 😂😂😂😂

Mynameisrow · 09/06/2024 17:20

My old married boss was sleeping with one of the sales execs. Everyone suspected but it wasn’t 100% confirmed until he accidentally uploaded images of the pair of them having a dirty weekend away in our company drop box.
I will always remember my colleague saying ‘why has someone uploaded a picture of a loo brush?’ Spoiler alert - it was his penis.

CassandraWebb · 09/06/2024 17:31

My old (and married) boss was sleeping with two different women in the organisation at the same time.

I didn't believe the rumours till I ran up a rarely used staircase to get some files and caught him kissing one of them. He's now married to the other one Grin. I don't know what women see in these men. If he's cheating on his wife with you he will almost certainly cheat on you.

They were all fairly senior professionals and there were so many awkward meetings where it was obvious he was playing footsie with one of the women. Grim

GogAndMagog · 09/06/2024 17:51

Two men in my department.

One was from a very religious conservative background. Church was everything. Discovered him looking at Gay porn.

Otherwise lovely guy, hard worker. Called him into my office, told him what I'd seen. He was mortified and very remorseful. I gave him a stern warning.

I knew if it went further his whole life would be ruined because of the attitudes of his community.

Other guy, caught him too. This time he liked looking at porn involving pregnant women. 😧 He denied it, went on denying it despite evidence from IT and got quite nasty. Went off sick. Right up until the day of the hearing, then admitted it.

Long time ago. Am sure computers have blocks on this now?!

NC for this as very outing!

Male colleague was sacked after it transpired he had multiple porn channels with his husband where they called him daddy bear and athe husband step son so captions like daddy bear punishing step son 🤢 They also had a much older gentleman join in on some videos as ‘Grandad’. Honestly the whole place has watched the videos - seems like they’re still at it too.

Our industry is strictly zero tolerance on no drugs or alcohol and even office staff get random drug tested. So many people caught after covid as people weren’t expecting to get tested on their one day in the office, testing positive for cocaine & weed from the days prior.

Male colleague was recognised on a twitter video filmed and posted by his neighbour having sex with the mud in his own gardens flowerbed, just outside in a vest in the middle of the day, shagging the ground?! Still works here now but is known collectively as the weedophile…

This whole thread was worth it just for weedophile. 🙂

An old colleague of mine though an egg was a vegetable.

Oh, then maybe my former coworker was eating 'vegetables' after all. 😁

2 of the staff in our kitchen had an affair, and when their partners found out, they literally ran away. We had the police at work and everything as they were missing people. They came home after a while, and back to work. Until he slashed his ex’s tires whilst filming himself and sent it to her 🤣 they decided it would be best to move away after the ex reported him to the police.

CuloGrande · 10/06/2024 08:30

We also had a married couple at work, until he decided to have an affair. The wife knew and let it go on, but their 16 year old found out and chucked him out. He moved in with the OW, and said he couldn’t cope with family life. They now have a baby, and his older kid is at uni whilst his wife lives the dream 😂😂

Nigellasstickytoffeepudding · 10/06/2024 08:40

Married couple working at the same place, male of the couple very popular 'golden boy' with the boss, face of the department ect ect.

Turns out he was blackmailing young girls in the office to send him dirty pics or he would get them sacked.

All this only came out because he sent a video of him and his wife having sex (also, without her consent) to his team WhatsApp group and someone of course complained.

He of course got sacked and she was off for months. It's put her career back years. If I were her I'd leave for a new job but fair play to her staying as she didn't do anything wrong. Worst part is she's still with him.

Fgfgfg · 10/06/2024 09:06

Colleague arrived home from work to find a journalist on the doorstep wanting to talk about her husband's suspension from work (children overheard him and a colleague having sex in a cupboard at the back of a classroom). Poor woman knew nothing about it.

Morporkia · 10/06/2024 09:14

When the bosses wife (Sarah) found out he was having an affair with my supervisor (Amy) . Sarah sent Amy a shitty email calling her and the boss all sorts of names...and CC'd it to the whole call centre, warehouse and logistics teams. At the time it was a source of gossip and sniggering, not so much when Amy left the company, Sarah divorced the boss and he ended up selling the company to a more corporate entity. What followed was a glut of redundancies, early retirements, mass exodus of good employees.

Rebusmyfire · 10/06/2024 09:45

One of the senior team was married with children. But would not stop shagging about.

One woman he was shagging totally adored him and would send him love letters to work.
He tried to cool it and it turned out her father was a known criminal and he had 'friends' who visited our office one day and gave him a 'warning' and damaged his car (actually a company car).

His wife found out. She posted dick pics mocking his size and other unflattering posts on his LinkedIn, FB, all social media, tagged these to our company social media and clients. The MD and I had an unexpected task unravelling the social media the following day and dealing with clients and customers The meeting between serial shagger and my MD was a classic.

Ex coworker took working remotely to the extreme - he worked from the Bahamas!! Until the company figured it out anyway.

allwiredup · 10/06/2024 11:19

Ooh also so many affairs at past Christmas parties. These people are from different offices so I don’t know them, but if I caught anyone from my team, the spouses would know before the end of the night. Can’t stand cheaters

SuziQuinto · 10/06/2024 11:22

A love triangle at work. They're all science teachers and found out about the other one. It all kicked off with a screaming match in the prep room. The Headteacher suspended all three.

I don't know whether respect or annoyance is the right reaction to that! 😄

TheSock · 10/06/2024 12:59

Oh loads - usually involved people shagging around.
Several love triangles.

It was a ‘young’ office. Majority in their early/mid 20s. We’ve all grown up now.

Honestly me either!! Got away with it for about 8 months like!!! He had properly moved there and all but company was none the wiser until they actually checked his location

Caught two colleagues shagging

loropianalover · 10/06/2024 17:24

At Xmas party in my old company a good few years ago, a generally very quiet and (I thought) well-to-do colleague we all noticed was knocking back the drinks at lightening speed. She worked from home a lot and when she came in would often sit alone in a meeting room all day and didn’t mix.

Soon enough she wanted to move on to a more lively dance bar, everyone else wanted to stay on at the restaurant bar a little longer as we had a tab. Out of nowhere she flung herself down on the ground and starts screaming crying, arms and legs flailing like a 2 year old!!! Literally shouting wahh wahh wahh and thumping her fists on the floor.

Everyone was horrified and two CEO’s sat there in shock. Eventually the manager got her up and took her outside, and she was sent to her hotel room in a taxi. She never brought it up, next Xmas party we all had to sign a document of rules about appropriate behaviour.
