What's your best work gossip/drama?

I'm self-employed (and love it), but I do miss the gossip and petty work drama. Anything good to share?

In my past jobs, the most shocking was a TA who lied and said that she had given medication to a kid when she hadn't (because she had forgotten). Not really gossip, but I also had a coworker who literally hadn't eaten any vegetables her whole adult life.

I was teaching English as a foreign language to adults in a private language school in Tokyo. I was 23 years old.

I wanted to visit my boyfriend in Hong Kong and I had asked and okay'd this with the scheduler.

But he booked me in to teach anyway so there was a clash. We had a mild disagreement over it and I went out that night, had a few beers and bitched about him to friends and a couple of people who used to work in the language school.

I got a phone call the next morning to be told the scheduler had been attacked in the office early that morning by one of the people who used to work in the language school.

He had attacked the scheduler with some wire and had tried to garrote him!! 😱 The scheduler was saved by another teacher who intervened. This was all done in my name apparently. For me.

The guy was on drugs. Had been sacked for drug use but clearly was still using them.

It was horrific.

That is absolutely shocking!

The male boss uses the women’s loo to go for a poo as the WiFi is better in there. 🤢

My old boss used the right toilet but he’d take the newspaper that got delivered to the office with him and then put it back after, like I don’t actually want to touch it now thanks…

also a young woman at work claimed he hit on her and I was never quite sure how much I believed her but nothing ever happened about it!

StarDolphins · 08/06/2024 23:28

I’ve got a couple…

Ex colleague set up a secret camera to record another colleague (who he didn’t like) having a wank & sent it to me. I really liked him too, they were both my friends!

Accidentally got ical of my bosses appt with therapist where it said ‘outline briefly what you would like to cover in our first meeting’ and I saw all the gory details of affairs/resentment etc!

Went out for a drink after work with some colleagues visiting from a different region. I'd left something at work and popped back to get it. Heard workmate and one of the visitors shagging loudly on the desk in her office.
A week later she got married and he was there with his wife.

nothing, i know nothing

A guy I worked with pretended that his wife was pregnant two months after the birth of their first child.

He had umpteen days and afternoons off for appointments as he said it was a tricky pregnancy. He even brought the baby in a few times for an afternoon shift as he said the wife wasn’t coping.

Baby was born. He had paternity leave - which was full pay, not stat. It was such a traumatic birth he ended up having an extra week off with the managers ‘forgetting’ to put it through as sick or holiday and the collection that went round was over £400 (as it had been for the first baby, and other babies born to colleagues - it was always generous there).

We discovered when said second baby was three months old that it was all a lie. No second baby existed. He just realised how much time off he could take unchecked. He later said he planned to say she’d had a miscarriage but then a colleague actually had a miscarriage and he couldn’t.

Management actually originally planned to give him just a final warning, despite staff pointing out that he’d effectively stolen from all of us, but he was sacked because of the paternity leave and the fraud element in that.

A few years ago during Covid our boss set up 2 WhatsApp work chats, one for important work stuff so that we’d see it urgently (guidance for our workplace was changing by the hour and he was just updating as and when required) and the other was a casual check in one, people posted more chit chat stuff on that one.
One evening there was a notification on the important chat, a phone, one of the female members of staff had posted an intimate photo of herself 🫣
It was very swiftly deleted but everyone had seen it.
One of the most awkward things that I’ve ever been party to!

Fuck me 🫢 I feel bad for laughing

BlastedPimples · 09/06/2024 06:16

A few of the other teachers even bloody asked if I had told the bloke to do it! Wtf?

They didn't even press charges on the guy as he used to work at the school, they were all friendly. I think they were really scared of him.

2Old2Tango · 09/06/2024 06:26

Teams call. Seven people involved from different countries. We had to do a 'round robin' giving updates on our work. One colleague didn't want to miss her slot, but needed the loo. She took her laptop with her and even into the cubicle. Fortunately I was multi-tasking and was looking at a document on another screen, so didn't get the performance everyone else was treated to. What shocked me afterwards (when the others were gossiping about it) is that not one of them tried to alert her. They'd watched her walking the corridor in her office to the bathroom, enter the toilet etc, but not one shouted out "[name] turn off your camera". Just let her go through the motions (pardon the pun).

Sharontheodopolodous · 09/06/2024 06:41

Married male manager and single, young and fresh to the company woman

Married manager was having his 3rd baby with his wife-she had about a month to go

They got very 'friendly' but I didn't take much notice

I was at work one day, when 2 colleagues came racing up the stairs, warning me not to look out of the window

Married manager and young woman where in his car,in the car park (which would have been my view a few minutes later) and she was giving him a blow job

I refused to move to that part of the building and told another manager why

Nothing happened-someone had a word, they acted normal round each other while still carrying on and his wife still hasn't a clue

spiderplantmum · 09/06/2024 06:47

I once googled a colleague who had been awful to me and found a mug shot... turned out he had committed a VERY serious crime (think one of the worst things you could do) but it had happened in another country and he never declared it on job applications when he came to the UK after he'd finished his jail sentence. The police came to take him away the next day.

Where was the camera?!!

TravellingSpoon · 09/06/2024 08:36

2 married colleagues caught shagging in one of the empty residents bedrooms (care facility). They then both left their spouses and are still living together.

Night staff being caught out by our service manager asleep in one of the bedrooms, fully asleep, under the covers.

OneWorldly4 · 09/06/2024 08:22

Where was the camera?!!

It was at the back of his desk near a white board on the wall so you could see the guy & also what he was watching! He was only watching older women in underwear just stood talking. He was a lovely guy & I felt so sorry for him!

Cliedi · 09/06/2024 08:48

Colleague I worked closely with just didn’t show up one day. Didn’t phone in sick. Reading the paper we saw that he had been convicted of a horrible crime the day before and given a long prison sentence. We were all just in shock.

Cliedi · 09/06/2024 08:51

Also married boss near retirement age. Very rich with much younger wife. Turns out he’d been shagging a younger still employee. Left his wife for her. They were a couple for all of 5 minutes before she got a new job and dumped him.

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 09/06/2024 08:51

A previous boss had been charged with attempted murder of his wife. He applied for the job, got it and then the details came out. He still got the job because it was 'not proven '- a Scottish term of judgement. In all honesty, he was a very unpleasant individual and clearly disliked women.

BellaBoo72 · 09/06/2024 09:16

NC for this as very outing!

Male colleague was sacked after it transpired he had multiple porn channels with his husband where they called him daddy bear and athe husband step son so captions like daddy bear punishing step son 🤢 They also had a much older gentleman join in on some videos as ‘Grandad’. Honestly the whole place has watched the videos - seems like they’re still at it too.

Our industry is strictly zero tolerance on no drugs or alcohol and even office staff get random drug tested. So many people caught after covid as people weren’t expecting to get tested on their one day in the office, testing positive for cocaine & weed from the days prior.

Male colleague was recognised on a twitter video filmed and posted by his neighbour having sex with the mud in his own gardens flowerbed, just outside in a vest in the middle of the day, shagging the ground?! Still works here now but is known collectively as the weedophile…

ControlShiftDelete · 09/06/2024 09:52

@BellaBoo72 weedophile 🤣🤣🤣

LakeTiticaca · 09/06/2024 09:58

I'm retired now but the thing is miss most is the rumours and the gossip. You always knew it was going to be juicy when another colleague Sidles up and whispers "you'll never guess what" 😆 it was mainly married colleagues shagging other married colleagues, there was a couple of really juicy scenarios but very outing so I best not post them 😁

LunaNorth · 09/06/2024 10:00

I worked in a school where the RE department were a throuple. The male one used to boast about having ‘broken two beds’.

It wasn’t a pretty thought.

anyginplease · 09/06/2024 11:35

I worked for a large supermarket many years ago where they used to send the cash through vacuum chambers to the cash office, only one of the senior managers was siphoning off thousands somewhere in this process. It was a crap time as he was blaming the poor cashiers and we were having till checks done every time we logged off. He got caught and sacked on the spot luckily!

Worked for another store where the married manager got one of the staff pregnant.

katebushh · 09/06/2024 11:46

An old colleague of mine though an egg was a vegetable.
