Waiting to hear from applications!!

Who else is waiting to hear back??

I have a job, that until recently I absolutely loved, but it's becoming too much now. I have decided I need a better work life balance, so applying for a slight change in roles.

I have only applied for two jobs so far, meet the criteria and qualifications, but I'm not sure if I will be considered or not, as it is a change, and I have very specific qualifications, so it's killing me waiting to see if these roles are worth applying for!! It's only been 2 days. 😅

Need to chat to others waiting too!!!

Also I have been in my current role 3 years, and was self employed for 7 years before that so feel very out of practice applying and interviewing. I'm excited and nervous all at the same time. 🙈

How long is it normal to wait???

I have submitted a job application today after 21 years with the same employer! It’s a job at the same
level and I have 5 years experience at that level. I just really need a change. I’m being ground down where I am.
also I relocated to a
new area. The job is local. But a bigger organisation so more opportunities for promotion! I am going to submit another one. Same organisation. Both closings dates are Sunday.

Gizlotsmum · 01/09/2023 08:16

Good luck @RosieLeaLovesTea

I'm waiting to hear back from an interview I had two weeks' ago...it's driving me mad!

I do already have a job offer and have handed my notice in, but want this other job really. I hate waiting, but it's coincided with holiday season, so I'm just waiting it out!

Gizlotsmum · 01/09/2023 13:45

@NoWordForFluffy fingers crossed you hear soon. Nice to have something else in place as a back up tho

NoWordForFluffy · 01/09/2023 13:48

I got the job! Phew! I was really banking on it coming through, so it's a massive relief.

Now to tell the other place I'm going somewhere else.

It's the difference between 4 days WFH and 1 in the office, by train, for £8 a week and having to buy a car and travel 50 miles each way twice a week. I'd have done the latter, but it would have got tiring very quickly.

Gizlotsmum · 01/09/2023 13:51

@NoWordForFluffy yay congratulations

NoWordForFluffy · 01/09/2023 13:52

Thank you! 😊

Good luck to everyone else waiting. It's hideous, isn't it?

Mixed feelings here, sometimes, suppose you can find something better by waiting.

Went to an interview Friday, where the work place stank of coffee (I'm a coffee lover but even that was to much for me, knowing the business was far from a coffee shop) the salary went up from the advertisement but the start date moved to middle of the month as opposed to an swift start situation, plus, I've seen the company advertise every 6 months or so and when I attended there wasn't the staff footfall for all the past advertisements done so it is definitely making me think if I'm totally right for the place and the firm are searching for a particular candidate they haven't yet found.

The regular adverts would concern me.., either they are rapidly expanding or they are unable to retain staff… I would want to know why

Well done to everyone getting interviews or job offers!! 🎉

I am starting to feel really down about it, applied for three jobs and haven't heard anything at all. 😩 I know one stated that interviews would be starting this week so I know they weren't interested - that was the one a saw a few hours before the deadline though, so had already accepted that I probably hadn't put in a good application.

I just wish they at least declined them formally. So I had some idea if I was even considered.

Gizlotsmum · 04/09/2023 18:06

@MamaTess it’s rude not to at least decline, I get they must get thousands but a generic email to all would be enough

MamaTess · 05/09/2023 08:07

@Gizlotsmum I guess I'm not really used to this whole process, I haven't done it properly since I left uni, like 16 yrs ago. I stayed in that job for 4 yrs, then worked self-employed for 7. My current job I just emailed my CV over to the CEO and asked if they had anything available in my area, then it was an informal phone call, before the formal interview, all very relaxed. I have been with them 3 years now.

Its really disheartening applying and not getting a response, or waiting ages for one! Esp as I'm applying for slightly different roles. I just need to swallow my pride and keep going though, guess it's part of the process! 😁

My OH is on his second interview for a job he really wants already, and if successful I will need to get a move on finding something 9 to 5 as he won't be able to work from home everyday anymore.

The one I am really keen on does still say 'under consideration' on the portal - so hopefully means I am still in the running. 🤞

I want to scream!! The first job I applied for the one I rushed and the interviews were this week. I just had an email to say they are withdrawing my application as I hadn't responded to my invitation to interview.

Underneath were about 6 emails - all had gone to my spam!! 😩😩 I'm gutted - I have emailed back to explain and ask for an alternative interview date - what are my chances now!! 😞

OP posts:
toucaninjapan · 06/09/2023 03:19

@MamaTess oh no, how unfair is that! Fingers crossed that they will understand and let you come in for an interview!
I personally feel they should have followed up with a call though to check why are you "ignoring" them...

@NoWordForFluffy congratulations! Did you apply for many jobs before you got this one?

Meanwhile, I got one interview invitation. They want me to complete an online math/ English/ Japanese test (a standard procedure) at least 3 days before the interview, so I guess I'll ask for the interview to be scheduled in 2 weeks time.

LonelyS1ngle · 06/09/2023 06:50

@NoWordForFluffy fabulous - congratulations!!!

@Beachbum1981 I'd be concerned about retention, that's a red flag isn't it!

@MamaTess oh nooo try calling? Silly of them not to tbh!!

Still no news here...

NoWordForFluffy · 06/09/2023 07:21

@toucaninjapan, I went to 3 agencies and was put forward for 4 roles. I got 3 interviews and 2 job offers. I withdrew my application for the first place I interviewed at as I wasn't happy with them.

Oh how frustrating. I hope they interview you.

Gizlotsmum · 06/09/2023 07:39

Oh no @MamaTess … I think you have to go with what is for you will not pass you… it wasn’t meant to be.

BunnyBunnyJabberJabber · 06/09/2023 08:06

I had an interview this week for a job requiring proof of certain GCSE passes or equivalent.
The interview was going well right until they saw my ancient O Level certificates from 1980 ( yes, I've kept them all these years!)
Cue a big disagreement amongst the panel about ' employing someone old' whilst I sat there.....I'm 59!

What on earth?! Don't they know they can't discriminate on age? 😱

Gizlotsmum · 06/09/2023 08:26

@BunnyBunnyJabberJabber well I guess you don’t look 59 but that would def be worth challenging if they don’t offer you the role! That is so dodgy of them!!!

I am convinced that they already have someone in line for the secondment and I can’t compete.. but I will still give it my best shot!

flowerpot258 · 06/09/2023 08:27

I had an interview last week on Friday. Still waiting to hear back. It's only been a few days really but the wait is killing me! I'm so impatient and I don't even know if they will get back to me this week or next.

Like you I have applied for a slightly different job than the one I'm doing just now so I'm not confident I'll get the job, which is okay, but the suspense is unbearable Blush

MamaTess · 06/09/2023 10:08

They haven't replied to my email yet. They had arranged a full day for me, with a tour, 2 sets of panel interviews, 2 presentations and a in tray exercise. So she had emailed several times for me to confirm. No phone calls at all. It would have been tomorrow and I couldn't have made the date anyway - I don't have a job where I can take time off at short notice. I'm not sure if they would have offered an alternative - so maybe it wouldn't have happened even if I had seen the emails! 🤷🏻‍♀️

I still have 2 applications in process and 2 more that I am considering applying for. It's given me a little hope that someone was interested in interviewing me at least! 😅

@Nugg did you hear back from yours at all yet?

That's awful!! I'd be withdrawing my application and putting in a complaint. You must be fuming. They cant discriminate on age, and definitely not something they should be discussing openly in front of you regardless! How unprofessional!! I always thought age was a benefit tbh. I'm 37, but I look alot younger. I have a few greys now and was planning not to dye my hair into after my interview as I think it makes me look older and wiser. 😅
