Anyone any experience of The Learning People?

Just wondering if anyone has done a course with The Learning People. Are they any good? What's the course quality like? How much support do you get? Did you get a job from doing it? Etc etc.

I have signed up (and am about to pay quite a bit for) for a block of IT courses in an attempt to have a career change, but now I'm reading some pretty shocking reviews and considering cancelling as a result...

It's very strange. They have 4.8 out of 5 on TrustPilot which is great, but it seems that these reviews are from people who've done the really good orientation, rather than actually done the course. Then other review sites have 2/10 etc with some angry people saying they are con-artists and the courses are really poor quality with no support and little chance of actually passing the exams. Apparently the people you speak to on the phone are just sales people on commission who will try to convince you that you'll be earning tons within 6 months even if you have no IT experience to start with, like me. But then I noticed the exact same angry story coming up on different review sites as if it's the same person again and again.

I must admit, it did sound too good to be true and I was totally taken in by the sales patter. I was really excited by the idea of a career change too. So... anyone done a course with them? Should I commit or cancel? Thanks!

I've got a call set with them to go over the recorded calls. I'll liaise and let you all know how it goes

Any advice welcome

Yes please - that would be amazing. I would love to find out how it goes. I am very interested in getting my money back- just no idea where to start. My worry is that I enrolled so long ago that they won't still have records- but I am still paying for the course!

Hi, are you trying to withdraw from the course? There are a lot of people going through this. We could go to court and get this company shut down of change the rules and regulations they have. Refunds should be allowed at a certain point of time. These guys are fake review boting aswell

Yes! Let's take them to court. But how?

Hi guys, just been reading over these comments. I've been a victim of scammers in the past for various reasons. Glad learningpeople have been exposed because it's hard enough to learn Cyber Security without people scamming you for nonsense. At the end of the day (unless they're going to pay for all your exams inc, never pay something like 5-6k, these mad numbers I've seen.) for education, there's too much good free stuff out there if you know where to look.

Not that it's a huge consultation but I know a few good free or paid for courses I thought I would let people know about so at least they can get their value in some form.

First and foremost: Springboard+ is an Irish government funded course offering full time, part time, evening degrees, certs and diplomas with Irish colleges from UCD, NCI, DBS, NUIG, etc etc im plenty of Cyber Security degrees and diplomas. I'm currently doing a Post grad for Cyber Security in NCI for a year part time and it cost me 10% of the overall course fee.

Other options are www.fetchcourses.ie look up CompTIA and do the A+, Net+ and Sec+ exams over time, again your voucher is paid for and the courses usually last from 12-26 weeks. I did ITF+ online with Baldoyle Training Centre.

Pluralsight (you've to pay for BUT) it covers a lot of great coding, security, networking and had nice learning paths and even some courses for Cert Prep.
INE. Com and CBT Nuggets are good too. (They're paid)

YouTube Videos:

Professor Messer, Network Chuck, CleverProgrammer, JasonDionTraining, Bob Tabor has great programming stuff.

For coding:
Udemy: Colt Steele, I love Colt Steele, if you're into programming! Wow. He's like having a personal academic grinds teacher come into your study and help you code, he is worth is weight in gold. Costs about €9.99 to do his course - The Web Development Bootcamp.

Also Code Institute, FreeCodeCamp, W3Schools.

For hacking
CodeRed (EC-COUNCIL), you can get 15 security courses for like $25.00 total, they look a bit scammy haha, but they're not, I signed up and have access to their courses now.

LinkedIn Learning: loads of stuff on here but I like the IT PROTV guys are great, again this one is paid but it's really good.

Please, please, please don't pay these scammers thousands, you can learn so much for free and if it's getting pricy, best to know where you money is going. Best of luck guys, sorry you got scammed. Lesson learned I guess.

Hope these tips help with your REAL IT Careers.

Amazing advice thank you!

hey does anyone know how I can stop the direct debit. I have just signed up for the course for £8,000 and cannot continue with the course due to health issues.

RRL · 03/03/2023 15:56

Hi Lprinsloo11 - have you had any luck with stopping the payments or getting any of your money back. Who have you contacted? Unfortunately I am in a similar position

Seagulls4eva · 03/03/2023 23:18

RRL, there's a 14-day cooling off period. Contact them immediately.

razzbo · 04/03/2023 08:24

If you've already opened the course though then the cooling off period doesn't apply and you can't get your money back. They are so cruel and it's so unfair.

OP posts:
Yemi456 · 04/03/2023 11:39

You can still legally request a cancellation even after accessing the course if you are still within the 14 days cooling off period but read what their terms and conditions says and clearly quote it back at them. Learning People are quite schemie and will do anything within the boundaries of their T & C and loosely within the consumer laws to keep your money. leaving reviews on Trust Pilot also add some weight. They are precious about their Trustpilot ratings so will definitely respond, you need to act fast though

Positive reviews are by the boys they have set up to give them good reviews and people that work there. Not students! Don’t join them guys they r scammers

Seagulls4eva · 04/04/2023 15:49

TIGEREEN123456, you're partly right. They ask a lot of their students to leave feedback before they've even started their course and at that stage all they've had is a very friendly 'orientation' call. Of course they're going to say they're happy with the company! Once they've started their training and realise how bad the company is, any negative feedback on Trustpilot is quickly dealt with. People need to go to other review sites to get the truth.

BarkingBazzaar · 15/04/2023 11:38

Hi guys,

I cannot express how grateful I am that I have found this post today. I was about sign up with them next week when I get my Credit card...

I am sure there is the way to sue them, get your many back and even make it public so they will be stopped from what they are doing! I wish you all the luck and all the strenght you wold need to get it done!

ftor0523 · 09/07/2023 09:27

Hello, yes Im also looking at pulling out. I see offers from PMI direct cost at a fraction on what Learning People is charging. Can you tell me if you were successful in pulling out?

Wreckingballll · 26/07/2023 07:05

Isn't EC-Council who provides the cyber security course for the learning people? Their reviews weren't so great either. How are you finding them?

Mclendog · 26/07/2023 13:57

By the way they have changed their name on TrustPilot from The Learning People to learningpeople as the former has bad reviews. I tried to review the new name but as I wasn't a customer within last 12 months they took it down as not legitimate. What a joke

Fibyx · 04/11/2023 05:24

Hi.
just seen your review.
I had a similar experience with comptia courses and ethical hacker package which they told me I will easily complete in 2 years time. Impossible, material content is awful, support zero. Their prices are not transparent and will put you into a financial mess. Stay clear from these people and company.

Efeeeeee · 11/12/2023 06:54

Hi

I have also just been conned. Were you able to get your money back?

Efeeeeee · 11/12/2023 06:57

The Learning People (learningpeople.com) have scammed me! help!

Abimbolab · 19/12/2023 06:32

i am sure we can sign an online petition against the learning people for it to be closed down. I am also seeking legal advice at the moment as my situation is exactly the same with all else here. They’ll lure you in without giving you time to read through the agreement, they’ll have you sign up making promises of all sorts and doing nothing. It is so sad such a company is allowed to operate in a country like the UK scamming people of their hard earned money. Shame.

TIGEREEN123456 · 19/12/2023 09:41

Hi, can you make a petition? I am in same position and a lot of new people aswell, people that have no idea what they getting themselves into. If you make a petition I will sign it and try get many people that’s been through this to sign it aswell! They r asking me for 6k which is crazy for something I’m not even studying so stupid. There course doesn’t even make sense and is so old and outdated!

Danzo71 · 19/12/2023 11:20

Hi, I think that would be a good idea. An online petition. I am so glad am not alone here. I signed up a few years ago. Course content terrible. Support virtually nil when it mattered. All they were interested in was getting money. I paid some of it bit then decided to stop direct debit. I told my bank but they couldn't do much. Still get letters from the financial co. I feel they are scammers. I even had a private teacher for a short while who was excellent. He said this company is not professional at all.

can they send. debt collector to your house?

Danzo71 · 20/12/2023 07:48

Hi, not at moment. They send letters sometimes and threatened to default me. I paid nearly 2k for about 6 months of nonsense. They wasted my time on the Full stack course. I learnt some stuff then they changed direction and was all strange. How was your experience?
