Anyone any experience of The Learning People?

Just wondering if anyone has done a course with The Learning People. Are they any good? What's the course quality like? How much support do you get? Did you get a job from doing it? Etc etc.

I have signed up (and am about to pay quite a bit for) for a block of IT courses in an attempt to have a career change, but now I'm reading some pretty shocking reviews and considering cancelling as a result...

It's very strange. They have 4.8 out of 5 on TrustPilot which is great, but it seems that these reviews are from people who've done the really good orientation, rather than actually done the course. Then other review sites have 2/10 etc with some angry people saying they are con-artists and the courses are really poor quality with no support and little chance of actually passing the exams. Apparently the people you speak to on the phone are just sales people on commission who will try to convince you that you'll be earning tons within 6 months even if you have no IT experience to start with, like me. But then I noticed the exact same angry story coming up on different review sites as if it's the same person again and again.

I must admit, it did sound too good to be true and I was totally taken in by the sales patter. I was really excited by the idea of a career change too. So... anyone done a course with them? Should I commit or cancel? Thanks!

Hey - I am in the exact same position as you! I’ve made an enquiry and I’m really interested/excited but these reviews have really got me thinking as it’s a lot of money. I messaged a person on Twitter after searching the learning people and they have said they are currently doing the course and getting on really well. I’m torn!

Jaz9090 · 20/08/2020 10:14

Hi razzbo, did you go ahead with the course? I am looking into joining with them and hopefully change to an IT career.

After some googling I also seem to find many poor reviews that courses are not great.

Would be great to get some more information.

Bex666 · 20/08/2020 10:42

Hi Jaz9090 - I didn’t go for it in the end but I did find a free online course that I plan on trying just to check if I liked it first. It was the cyber security one and it was on future learn.

Hi All,

Jillian from the Learning People here. I would encourage you to speak to our team in Learning People if you have any concerns about joining us. We can address these directly.
In addition, I would encourage you to have a look at LinkedIn and the Learning People badges our students share. Each student receives a badge for each certification they pass, and you can reach out to these students. When students engage in their study and with our help, it is amazing to see the successes they achieve.
There will always be some negative reviews from students who did not engage with the course and then became disgruntled.
We are regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and accredited by the Learning and Performance Institute which ensures we act correctly and with students best interests at heart.
Whatever decision you make we wish you the best with your studies and your future.
Regards,
Jillian

I really wouldn't, they'll take your money quite happily give you their friendly sales pitch and then god forbid anything happens where you can't continue they'll make sure it's as difficult as possible for you to cancel. They're money grabbers without a ounce of humanity. There's plenty of better places to study out there. Best of luck 😊

ByrdFace · 22/10/2020 13:58

Don't touch the Learning People. They offer you the world to sign you up and the support is not there. They'll charge you what they think they can get out of you, a previous employee has stated that they earn commission on what they charge and they'll charge depending on what financial info you give them.
They're refusing to give me a refund and I've threatened legal action, I'm now gathering the information required to sue them.
There are people all over the world complaining about the same things that I am, going back a few years.
I would like to contact people because I think that Class Action is the way forward.
Their learning platform is substandard and there is no support forthcoming.

Lmack92 · 22/10/2020 14:45

We are having the same problem. My partner got really ill earlier this year, he's been hospitalised a couple of times we have doctors notes to prove this and they will not let us cancel the remaining course. Not even asking for a refund just a cancellation of the remainder. But they're being awful their lack of compassion and humanity is disgusting. He got told to basically just get on with it in one email. I'm so upset we ever made such a stupid decision to go with them. They've caused so much stress and upset in our house.
Hope you manage to get the outcome you're looking for!

ByrdFace · 22/10/2020 15:43

I'd only just started about a month. Then I lost a friend. Then I lost my father in law. Then I broke my finger, for 5 months I was in a pickle. Nobody contacted me to ask me why I had disappeared from the learning platform.

Seagulls4eva · 12/11/2020 18:37

Stay well clear of them. The positive reviews are written by students who have only started with them. The negative reviews are from disgruntled people who realise how much money they've wasted on useless training.

Jaz9090 · 16/11/2020 18:36

Hi, I just noticed my last message got removed. I'm not sure why it was removed, and was also careful not to say any names.

I'm not going to repeat the message, sorry you guys had a bad experience.

I was looking into their Full Stack Developer course and try to find some 1st hand experience of people who did/doing the course. Any interested who don't have any coding experience www.freecodecamp.org/ is a good start, it was good to see what it is like and I am not too sure it is for me.

Mclendog · 18/12/2020 17:36

OK I signed up to reply to warn you. The full stack dev course is SHOCKING!!!! I had to buy extra courses from other sites to get through parts of it. It offers you all this extra tutor support which ends up being a 10 min call with someone who barely speaks English (please don't take that as a xenophobic slant...).

The course has so so many holes. I promise you ... just do some research online about what you need to learn and buy some courses on Udemy or even Treehouse. I'm so so gutted I wasted all those £££'s with Learning People.

I am only here to warn. Its not a bitter post as I'm still progressing and learning but the course will do NOTHING for your career switch.

Fibyx · 07/01/2021 14:05

Hi.

I have an awful experience with learning people. I only wanted to study ethical hacker course and I been told I need additional courses to do to be able to do the actual course. At cost of £4K they sold me something I later been told I don’t even need. I also been told that to finish all the courses will take 7 month and what a lie that was, as I didn’t finish them at all as I haven’t been listen to by anyone. I’m planning to take them to ombudsman as they missold me a product and they stuff especially guy called Eoghan so unprofessional and rude. Disgrace. Research before you sign up, as you get better prices and customer service elsewhere. This is unfortunately my experience...

gelert5619 · 07/01/2021 14:22

FutureLearn is the best. It's free unless you want to study at a deeper level for a qualification. I've done a few courses for my own enjoyment, easy to manage, huge list of subjects and no pressure.

Yemi456 · 05/02/2021 11:50

To the lady asking about courses with @LearningPeople

Please let from my mistake, I signed with them fit a CISA course in Jan 2020, took till July for them to rectify to the course I wanted and all promised support at point of sales never came through. I complained and even though they claim they are obliged to respond within 8 weeks, it took me posting a review about my badexperice with them on trust pilot to get a response and even at that the issue is still unresolved. Currently paying of £5000 at £139 per month for 18 months. I have paid for a year so far.
Run from this company by my experience they are not to be trusted.

Yemi456 · 05/02/2021 11:51

Apologies for the typos

Danzo71 · 14/02/2021 10:51

Hi there, pls don't go with Learning People. Honestly they are a disgrace. I reported those 5* comments to Trust pilot, who seemed to believe me. I said they must be fake or Brand new students. They do not help you after 6 months or 1yr. They blatantly lie too. I had a private tutor who even said this company is no good. He helped me more in 2 sessions than they do in 3 months. The course starts off OK, then they completely change direction. Unreal. Avoid at all costsSad

Can you let me know where you found your private tutor?
razzbo · 19/02/2021 11:16

Hi everyone.

Thanks for all the replies from months ago! I wrote the original question but I was under pressure to sign up so I never checked back for replies after I'd signed up. Anyway, it was a VERY BAD DECISION. AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS! The negative reviews are all true in my opinion and the positive ones are people who've only just signed up, and have had a nice induction, or possibly they're just fake reviews.

Here's what I've written on TrustPilot:

I signed up for the ethical hacker course. The sales guy really pushed me to make a decision quickly. He said that there was a deal where I would save £1000 if I signed up in the next 24 hours (do they say this to everyone?) so I had no time to think through the decision. I signed up to the finance option and am now paying out about £100 a month for three years... even though the course only lasts for a year. I was told that the course was totally suitable for beginners and that if I studied for 10 hours a week I would complete it in 6-8 months. Sounds too good to be true because it IS NOT TRUE.
There's a 14-day cooling off period but it turns out that once you open a single lesson, you can't use the cooling off period, and you're committed. So once you open it and see how poor the content is, you can't get your money back. The content is essentially just powerpoint slides with a guy speaking over them. There are no photos of real parts of a computer, even though you are supposed to identify them in the exam.
I thought I was getting on well with the course as I would get 100% on the test after each lesson and felt my knowledge was growing. Then I came to do the practice tests. You need to get 90% on these to be able to take the real exam (although the sales guy had said 80% which sounded more possible). The practice exams are IMPOSSIBLE. The questions are often on things that are not covered in the course material, and many are multiple choice, but you're not told how many answers to select so you fail on these each time. Basically, I could never get anywhere near to 90% despite having done well on each lesson, feeling that I knew the material, and being able to do well on other practice tests online. So how am I ever going to get to sit the real exams?? I have a horrible feeling that this is their business model. They take your money for the exam fees up front knowing full well that you're unlikely to take the real exams (because you can't get the 90%). Your time will run out after a year and then they will either charge you for an extension, or you'll just give up and go away.

So anyway, in case anyone is still wondering, AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!

Hey. You said you looking to sue. Could you tell me how this went? They mislead me too and now I have to decide what I need to do.

usernamenotavialable · 07/07/2021 12:35

Hi all,

Sorry jumping in late on this thread. Im about to sign up to a course for Project management. ive been speaking to a really nice chap who assured me that ill pass. after reading these comments now im not so sure. Its going to cost me jsut over £2000 which over 12 months is about 160 to pay back.
Hs anyone done this course? Luckily i had a technical hitch so has this saved me from a terrible mistake? Please help!

Donibs · 07/07/2021 21:00

Hi, I am about to sign up with learning to study project management. I am first class honours is marine operations however, it seems my first class in BSc has no edge for me without any experience and getting the experience becoming more difficult due to pandemic. Therefore, I am looking to tap into project management as I see many ads going on regarding it. How reliable is the learning people?? I don’t mind paying any amount to get me any experience possible in order to add to my BSc to get me somewhere. Thanks in advance 😊

Drbend · 19/07/2021 17:32

Learning people, it's all a massive con they cam talk the talk but not walk the walk. Do not give your money to the charms of honey pots giving you the impression your number 1. All in all they put the bait and reel you in and it's game set and match, whilst your suffer in silence.

Jordsxoxo · 11/08/2021 15:57

I'm considering signing up for the project management course, following to see further messages. This has been really helpful

Sanjonline · 25/10/2021 18:44

I have had the worst experience with the learning people. I signed up to do the CyberSecurity course with them which costs over $7000, for this they promise that they would give you 1:1 training with an industry expert, provide all the course material, you would hbe part of Alumini, you would be 100% guaranteed that you would pass the course. Its all lies, I had access to my learning account for 3 weeks which was then disabled and delteted. While I had access to the account none of the course material was available, there was no 1:1 tutor, no industry experts, no coaching and the course contyent is the exactly the same as Udemy course. Also if you want to sit the exams you will have to pay for the exams out of your own pocket, they do not cover the exams, and are not certified trainers for any of the Big IT companies. They do not proovide industry training to get you ready for your career, nor do they place you in any role with any company as they state on their website. Aslo there is no student support to help you with your account, once your locked out you will not get access to the account again. They are basically con artisits who are looking at just fleecing you out of your hard earned cash and thats all they care about. DO NOT SIGN UP WITH THEM!!!!! This sis the worst thing you could do for your career. I learnt the hardway, and am looking to take legal action and have made a full complaint to the ACCC as they couldn't be any more dodgy.
