..if we hadn't been interviewing one of our members of staff today who already works in the school in a similar role.

So, had my interview today after gaining an interview in competition with 33 strong applicants - apparently. Didn't get the job but had a half hour phonecall of feedback from one of the 4 interviwers and he said quite categorically that I gave a fantastic interview and they would have happily given me the job had I not been up against this one woman.

Lots more posts coming up due to new government initiative - exactly same role, just different set of educational establishments. Shall I apply? I already missed out on an interview for the same post a few weeks ago because they were basically doing the interviews because they had to - already had someone 'inhouse' lined up.

He said there was nothing he could fault really, just one answer that was maybe a little short, otherwise perfect.

Not sure if GRRR! or WAHEY!

Hiya! No, this was another one. I heard nothing back from the school so no joy on that one. This was for an extended schools consortium post in NE Herts.

I thought interview was fair to good but apparently it was excellent. Ruddy annoying.

Very interesting post - I've been looking at these jobs, loads being advertised atm, do you think they already have people in mind then, am I wasting my time?

newlifenewname · 13/07/2007 23:16

Well, pinkteddy, I don't know. I know someone who is involved with St Albans consortium pilot and she advised me about this - today just confirmed it really. However, both she and the headteacher who called me today said it would be worth keep applying.

These are new roles so not every one can have somebody ear marked for the job.

What filed do you work incurrently? I'm health/behaviour but obv. post is relevant to anyone in heath/education, etc.

Apply - just don't you be fighting me for a job or I'll have to do away with you

OP posts:
pinkteddy · 13/07/2007 23:27

In community health atm but really want to get out and into something more manageable and that fits in with dd a bit more but which is still going to keep me interested IKSWIM. I fit the person spec tho eg: project management, income generation, partnerships etc etc. what do you think are the key things they are looking for? Will try not to fight you for job btw!! (St Albans a bit far for me).

newlifenewname · 13/07/2007 23:40

From what I have learned, experience of partnership working and the ability to take this forward in line with Every Child Matters and develop children's trusts, ability to generate income/funding, reaching the hard to reach (which you will have excellent skills in I'm sure), motivation and persuading schools to work cohesively to achieve 5 key objectives.

I think being imaginative about the core offer will be a plus as this will require creativity and flair in its' realisation.

thanks new life! Will give this a bit more thought. Is it OK to come back on this thread if I have any more questions?! Off to bed now, night night.

newlifenewname · 14/07/2007 00:00

Yes, post for me whenever and we can mull over together!
Night!

Hi newlife, hope all is well with you. I read about your sad news on your other thread - I was very sorry to hear about your friend.

I hope you don't mind me posting a couple of questions about the extended schools jobs? I'm looking at one in Hertford - is that near you? I would have to get the train but it won't take any longer than my current drive in traffic to work! I meet the person spec fine (all the ones I have seen are roughly the same) but they have added on the bottom the following:

In addition to the candidate's ability to perform the duties of the post, the interview will also explore issues relating to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children including:

? Motivation to work with young people
? Ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with children and young people
? Emotional resilience in working with challenging behaviours
? Attitudes to the use of authority and maintaining discipline

I find this a bit odd as I from the job description I don?t see the postholder directly working with children and young people ? am I wrong? As I haven?t worked directly with children and yp, do you think this will work against me at interview? I have had level 1 child protection training but not quite the same thing IYSWIM!

Thanks so much for your help

pinkteddy · 19/07/2007 19:06

BTW, maybe not clear from my post, I haven't actually applied for the job atm!

browniedropout · 22/07/2007 13:03

Keep applying but know that the good jobs (no matter what sector) always have 30 + applicants. I find the truly aggravating thing with public service (schools etc) jobs is that they have to advertise the job, even when the entire appointment staff know who they are going to appoint. They will always say the politically correct thing when you ask for feedback but if you are getting very positive feedback then keep going. I found it so irritating to be told (6 months) later that we all knew so-and-so would get it, or the only people who get that post will have something-or-other software or that-specific experience. Public service adverts need to be more honest then we would not waste so much time filling in 11 page on-line forms!

pinkteddy · 24/07/2007 22:09

couldn't agree more! Are you newlife under another name? If not where is newlife?!

pinkteddy · 26/07/2007 22:54

bumping for newlife.

browniedropout · 29/07/2007 10:51

No I'm not Newlife, I'm newish to MN. When I'm WOOTH my employer is an LA and therefore I have to b a bit vague about location, family etc. Public servants aren't allowed to have opinions or problems with their own children.

legalalien · 29/07/2007 11:51

Bumping again for newlife who I'm reliably informed is at the dentist at present

pinkteddy · 29/07/2007 15:41

thanks legalien. Dentist on a Sunday! Must be serious Are you back yet newlife?

pinkteddy · 29/07/2007 18:34

bump for newlife

newlifenewname · 29/07/2007 18:43

When's the close date pinkteddy? - sorry I missed this, I haven't been here all that much.

OP posts:
pinkteddy · 29/07/2007 18:54

yes sorry, I should have updated this - I did apply in the end, closing date was Friday just gone. Obviously I haven't heard yet whether or not I have got an interview. Am thinking of applying for another one too, I think in Cheshunt (need to check website again!). Closing date for that one is later in August but it doesn't have the stuff about relationships and personal boundaries with children and young people but otherwise job description exactly the same. If I do get an interview for the Hertford one I will post again on this thread and let you know (panicking probably!). What do you think about the working with yp thing though?

newlifenewname · 29/07/2007 19:28

Was it Sele? If so, we just applied for the same post! ROFL!

I know the coordinator for a different set of schools and it is definitely very hands on with children at certain times. I think that if your additional skills are comprehensive then it will not matter but you will need to be able to demonstrate 'potential' in this respect.

That's my opinion anyway.

BTW, thanks for thinking of me re. sad news. Funeral is Wednesday.

OP posts:
pinkteddy · 29/07/2007 20:38

yes it is Sele . That's why I posted for you before I applied! Never mind. I will let you know if I get an interview. I've got a couple of other irons in the fire so we'll see. In what way do you think the posts will be hands on with yp? I saw the job as consulting with community to see what services are needed, raising income through grant monies etc to provide them and commissioning suitable services and managing and monitoring these - am I wrong? If they actually want you to be hands on with running the services, its not the job I thought it was!

Btw hope funeral goes as well as can be expected, they are always difficult occasions. I noticed on another thread you were hoping to give a eulogy (sp) - are you doing that? thanks for your help.
