Pay with Dict8

juju1507 · 09/03/2015 09:19

I have been working s/e with Dict8 for 3 years now and my payment by cheques are arriving later and later. My last cheque arrived 8 days after it was issued and I noticed they are now sending cheques second class. Does anyone else work for Dict8 on here and, if so, are you finding that your cheque is arriving much later than it used to? I have direct debits set up deliberately for the middle of the month in order that my cheque would have cleared in time but now I am worrying that even by 15th of each month the cheque will not have cleared. Sorry for the ramble but just curious if others have noticed this.

Gally123 I always call it the Christmas dump, ie all the work gets dumped on to Dict8 ready for the Christmas holidays. Good luck everyone.

deewu · 27/11/2019 20:03

Very little work in my specialty at the moment and when there is it disappears in minutes, only the badly dictated remains on the system. Fortunately I also have a bank zero hours job with lots of available hours at the moment because they have introduced a new system the bonus is they do pay NHS pension and holiday.

I am still very new to this and unsure what to expect. I get told how to do things by one proof reader so do this only to be picked up on it by another and now on the closely monitored group? Has anyone else been on the closely monitored group?

Gally123 · 07/01/2020 12:13

No, not heard of the closely monitored group but I have had occasion (last year) when one proof reader in the morning told me I was doing something wrong and told me to do it differently, which I did, only to then get another message by a different proof reader at lunchtime to tell me I was doing it wrong and told me to type the way I had been doing originally!

After this I did suffer from feedback and comments two or three times a day for about a week and I felt that everything I did was wrong, however as suddenly as this torment started it stopped and went back to them checking my work periodically and then only a few letters, which seemed a little odd.

They do tend to pick on people for a while and bully them; the only thing you can do is keep typing as best as you are able and don't doubt yourself.

Chrissols · 07/01/2020 12:28

Thanks Gally123. It has made me quite nervous of actually taking tasks as I really do not want to lose this job. I have been a medical secretary for a lot of years but this has knocked my confidence greatly.

IamVictoria · 07/01/2020 14:34

Chrissols, you should email and say you've had conflicting feedback and ask for clarification as to the correct one. Then they can let the proofreaders know. I've queried feedback before and they usually do explain.

There are other companies out there who are most definitely better to work for than Dict8. You could try Accuro or Tpro. The money is far better and you get a bit more respect. I have worked for DICT8 for over 10 years, and frankly the standard of work they put on there is dreadful in line with the pay.

Florence1965 · 08/01/2020 11:40

You could try Accuro or Tpro. Far better pay and much more work. Also you get more respect, especially with Tpro who are my personal go to company.

Chrissols · 08/01/2020 11:55

Thank you I will look into these, what is the pay like with them?

Florence1965 · 08/01/2020 12:30

Accuro varies - it depends on your experience. I was paid between 0.35 and 0.50p per minute. Tpro pay in Euros. It works out at roughly £20 to £30 per hour depending on the exchange rate at the time. Lots of choice of specialities and with Tpro. They give you one hospital to start with and once they are happy they add more on to your account. I have a Revolut bank account just for euro payments. Works really well.

Florence1965 · 08/01/2020 12:31

You could also try Fleet Fingers which is UK based but not necessarily medical and Language Insight. Pay for Fleet Fingers is around £15.00 to £20.00 per hour and Language Insight is around 0.25 p per minute

Chrissols · 08/01/2020 15:01

That's brilliant, thanks for the info, I am going to look into these straight away 😊

smiffypeabrain · 16/01/2020 19:42

Hi all, just reading the thread. I also work for Dict8 and have done for a couple of years.

I really like that I can WFH and not have to commit to definite days, however, lately I have had a noticeable drop in available work, I can sit waiting and refreshing all morning then 42 jobs will arrive, however, after I type a job it says about 9 remain a few minutes later 0 are left. It is so disappointing to think I can stay in all day refreshing and waiting.

I do things improve because it really suits me to WFH at the moment.

Lincoln35 · 16/01/2020 22:38

There's been hardly anything available to me all week in my specialty, so much so that I've decided to look elsewhere - have asked for more speciallties to no avail. Is it because hospitals are beginning to move over to voice recognitikn technology? Anyway, can't afford to sit around waiting!

Gally123 · 16/01/2020 23:13

It is usually quiet just after Christmas/early January, due to doctors' leave and the holiday period with cancelled clinics etc, plus there is the push by hospitals before Christmas to get everything done, so there is not much work for a week or two.

Lincoln35 · 17/01/2020 08:20

Thanks Gally123 - Hope it picks up soon!

Chrissols · 26/01/2020 09:15

Work has been very slow in my speciality, certainly not enough to rely on. One day managed to pick up three short tasks and that was it!

smiffypeabrain · 27/01/2020 10:30

Yes, I'm here again refreshing and checking and sitting in waiting for the odd task. Compared to last Jan and previous Jan it's a fraction of what was available.

Gally123 · 27/01/2020 15:28

I wonder if it has anything to do with the upgrade mentioned at log in - the last time they upgraded their system it went quiet - Epsom and St Helier Hospitals left and possibly Isle of Man or shortly afterwards. When they upgrade their system do they also put their charges/fees up? (But not the price they pay their typists, obviously).

Chrissols · 27/01/2020 15:58

I've had absolutely nothing today, not good at all

Gardeninggirl56 · 29/01/2020 08:35

Morning all. I just wondered whether with DICT8 transcriptions anyone ever has any problems with the audio file not working. I seem more and more to regularly get a "cannot play audio file" message, I then have to save draft and refresh it, and start the task over again. DICT8 says it is my computer, but I cannot work out what is wrong. It never used to do this in years past.

ElleBee56 · 29/01/2020 09:42

Morning Gardeninggirl56! I had a similar problem a year or so ago. The audio would start to play then stopped in exactly the same position every time with every audio. I was having to save, close Dict8, log back in and start again. In my case it was because I wasn't logging in using Chrome. That sorted the problem out.

Gally123 · 29/01/2020 10:05

Gardeninggirl 56 - have you done recent updates on your computer? As ElleBee56 says there was a problem a year or so ago caused by an update, this was fixed when DICT8 made a minor change, although they did initially say it was the typists' computer fault. Using Chrome or Internet Explorer made no difference. I much prefer Internet Explorer and have no problems (fingers crossed).

Chrissols · 29/01/2020 10:50

I still cant get any tasks to type......it's getting very scarce in paediatrics. What specialities are you doing?

ElleBee56 · 29/01/2020 11:09

Chrissols, I'm finding that at the moment. Very few tasks coming through on orthopaedics and when they do they go down fast.
