hi

am abt to go full circle abd make my parents v proud at last by getting a job based on my degree in media. never bothered with it until now and currently have been working as a horticulturalist for last 4 years which most people blv i love but i dont

i know ppl will be shocked and just wondered whats the most surprising career change u kno of... heres some...

1. went to routinely book my hairdresser and shed left for an office job, was not prepared

1. assistant manager of a care home i worked in suddenly left to work on checkouts at tesco

Went from been an engineer to a midwife.

Fashion designer to random local authority middle manager - traffic, or planning, can't remember which (it wasn't me!). That was quite an odd one.

pretty mental making me feel lots better

Probably the statistician who became a male model. Or the ex coast guard who I recently met, he's now a librarian.

Lumberjack to university lecturer and political researcher

I was a hair dresser and now an accountant and a counsellor.

I just heard Lorraine Pascale on Radio 2, who used to be a trainee car mechanic with Skoda, before becoming a model, then a TV cook! There were a few other things in there too.

Chef to nurse

I knew someone who went from farm hand to policy developer in a big corp. She said she dealt with the same amount of bullshit.

My ex's friend went from studying animal care in college to working in butchery!

A PE teacher at school left to become a legal secretary.

Programmer to Police officer.

My BFF - Health Visitor to Fairy (OK, technically a face-painter and children's party organiser).

Roadie to philosophy lecturer.

Infant school teacher to landscape gardener.

English teacher to IT project manager.

Midwife to translator.

The restaurant manager who became a fitness coach.

The biggest shock was that he was a tubby guy before and has lost loads of weight and spends all his time at the gym.

just heard new one - dh best friend used to be a manager in a company dealing in art and was always travelling to italy and now he drives the shopping vans for supermarkets

Cardiologist to sahm. About ten years ago with no (current) intention of going back! I find it surprising because she spent so many years studying and working crazy hours but beneath all that ambition she really wanted a family - and wants to spend as much time with them as possible.

I admire anyone brave enough to make a change.

Trainer solicitor to baker to sahm . Happiest with the latter

Friend who was quantity surveyor retrained as a plumber.

Another trained as an accountant after her maths/economics degree then decided she'd rather be a doctor (that was a loooot of years in university altogether). Now a very happy GP.

I have a friend who was an interior designer who became an IT specialist with financial institutions. She used to come over and help me with computer issues and then would artfully rearrange my home office.

I found out today that my hairdresser is applying to study medicine!

(That's probably totally outing me to anyone who's known me long enough IRL.)

Don't know him personally but the man who played Rocky in Rocky Horror Picture Show now owns an antiques shop.
