What about Jo Brand? Didn't she go from psychiatric nurse to stand-up comedienne?

DramaQueenofHighCs · 29/09/2014 09:07

Pro Football referee, trained as an actor, - now a maths teacher!! (And a bloody good one at that!)

irregularegular · 29/09/2014 09:09

Train driver to politics professor (though obviously this wasn't instant!)

DramaQueenofHighCs · 29/09/2014 09:10

(Have to add, my post is not me, it's a collegue of mine!)

TunipTheUnconquerable · 29/09/2014 09:17

Maths professor to artist (in his 60s, never having painted before).

Whatevertheweather · 29/09/2014 09:21

The male midwife (are they called midwives?) cheerily announced as I was pushing dd1 out that he used to be a fireman!

OddBoots · 29/09/2014 09:23

I'm a nursery nurse studying with the OU to (hopefully) become a biomedical scientist/engineer. I suspect a few of the parents will be surprised when I move on.

I have a lovely friend who went from childminder to structural surveyor.

Gunznroses · 29/09/2014 09:32

SchroSawMargeryDaw Sounds like ex's friend was driven to insanity by the course! Shock

CountessRosinaAlmaviva · 29/09/2014 09:40

My friend when from pharmacist to yoga teacher, and she seems really happy with the change.

Gunznroses · 29/09/2014 09:46

I've got one. DS's swimming teacher used to be a research scientist.
I also used to know an IT consultant who used to be a train driver.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 29/09/2014 09:51

Marketing Director to lawyer at Crown Prosecution Service
Hairdresser to Optician (wonder if we know the same one mamushka...)
Journalist to pre-school teacher

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 29/09/2014 09:51

Oh and furniture designer turned driving instructor

MehsMum · 29/09/2014 09:51

Caterer to midwife.
Fork lift truck driver to nursery school assistant (she's lovely).

CountessRosinaAlmaviva · 29/09/2014 11:30

Not really a career change but I was planning to be a linguist, possibly a translator/interpreter, and did languages (French and Arabic) at university. I did a full year, then decided I wasn't really suited to it and started again doing a maths degree. I went on to be a data analysis/statistician.

mothermirth · 29/09/2014 18:43

One of my friends did a business degree, worked in business management for years and hated it, then she retrained to be a teacher and she doesn't like that much either – sounds so stressful Sad

mothermirth · 29/09/2014 18:46

I think a lot of people become disillusioned with working in money-oriented professions and naively believe that teaching will make them happier. From the ones I've seen, unfortunately it doesn't always seem to work out that way.

Sandarita · 15/10/2014 15:42

Secretary to sales assistant. Pastry chef, bakery manager, packer, housekeeper...

mothermirth · 16/10/2014 09:30

Just remembered another: travel rep to deputy-headteacher!

Lindt70Percent · 23/11/2014 20:33

I was a computer programmer then became a reflexologist (after having children) but went back to web development after the kids started school.
