Student Health Visitor Interview!!

chewie29 · 16/04/2012 14:56

Hi all.
I am currently a staff nurse on maternity leave and I have been very lucky, I have managed to get an interview for a Student Health Visitor Post tomorrow. Has anyone any advice they can give me for the actual interview? I am stressing as it is something I have wanted to do for a long time! I have send by little man over to his nans this afternoon so I can concentrate, I have just been getting more stressed as the day goes on. I have been preparing for the interview for some time but I'm worried my nerves will ruin it for me! Any advice or tips would be great. Thank you.

Hi guys,

I too had an interview today and i think i have messed it up, i was so nervous i let the nerves get the better of me. I spent 4 weeks revising poicies and no questions involved anything like tht, so i was caught off guard. I feel so silly, im stewing over everything i said and cringing! Theres still a part of me praying to get through but im not confident. The interviewers at UCLAN were so lovley though and made their best efforts to help us all. I wish i could beat the nerves!!!

Hi Pirates

Im still waiting to hear, keeping my fingers crossed and praying for a miracle lol. I was asked: What skills and experience i have i could bring to health visiting. What is the health visitors role in relation to safeguarding? How will i cope with the demands of the course? Tell me about a time you workplace went through the change process? Fairly easy compared to others ive heard at different universities. Good luck with your interview, let us know how you get on xx

Hi everyone
I have had an email today to say I have been selected for an interview at an assessment center. Could anyone please tell me what this might involve.
The email says I don't have to prepare anything, very nervous.
Thanx

I have my interview next week !
Im currently a community midwife so although i know i have a lot of transferrable skills i am TERRIBLE at interview. Mouth goes dry lips tremble ect !
Im about to start the reading and sorting my portfolio which presently consists of 10 years worth of every certificate etc just stuffed in in no order - thats a 2 day job in itself.
Smartypants i think they already shortlisted for Staffs but will be advertising again soon.
Right off to do my portfolio and then im going to write out lots of little cards with the key points on. I do have one question -can you actually take your key point cards into interview with you and refer if your mind goes blank ? Is it acceptable. i dont think id feel comfortable doing this but saw something on here and thought id ask .
TIA

Hi kit Kat I wouldn't rule yourself out . I actually rang up the hr department and they said anyone who has got in will get a phone call and anyone who hasn't will get a letter. she said the phone calls will prob take a week because the person making them is very busy with other work . they were still unclear about the amount of funding for places. I got the phone call Monday but she did say give it a week from 28/01/2013. Give the hr department a ring at lancashire care nhs. I hope you get in Hun, we were prob there at the same time! I know they did two days of interviews so it will prob take s while. Fingers crossed! Xx

I too have been offered a place at UCLAN in september, I was wondering if you have had your letter of confirmation through yet? I want to tell people at work, but I'm reluctant until the confirmation letter arrives.

HI ljgreg

No no confirmation letter yet! The lady who called said it may be a while but not to worry about it. So not expecting it at the moment. I have told work I have a place as I know they will be requesting references pretty soon. I'm do excited to start as I bet you are. I don't know when we will have the numeracy test tho? The hr lady said once references are done we will receive an application pack to apply to the uni but this is just a formality! Well done Hun ill prob see you in September lol x

Queenhavilah

I think the health visitor implementation plan or the healthy lives healthy people public health policy. The NSF for children , young people and maternity services is also a key policy as it has the 11 standards tht most policies are based around. You could also link this into the every child matters, a vision for change.

Sorry couldn't pick one but there's a few ideas, good luck Hun xx

Best wishes to you all.I am halfway through the course and really enjoying it but it is hard work and very intensive study. We do lots of stuff on the health visitor implementation plan which is underpinned by the Healthy Child Programme. Also Healthy Lives, Healthy People. I wouldn't get too bogged down in other policies for the interview but do try to read things like Field, Allen, Tickell and Munroe who all wrote on child poverty. If you are writing about a policy my advice is to say what it is, why it was implemented, is it effective, who will it benefit. Look at sites such as CPHVA, Department of Health. Think about what you can offer, why you want to do it, experience you can bring. It doesn't matter if you have children or not and we also have newly qualified nurses and midwives on our course.

Please Advice
Hi, I am currently in my 3rd year of mental health nursing training, I will qualify in September and want to apply for HV training. However, I cant find an answer: after training as a health visitor can I do bank shifts on a psychiatric wards without doing a preceptorship as a mental health nurse? Or what if I decide to go back to mental health nursing, how does it work out with preceptorship? very confusing :/ appreciate any answers

I have an interview next week, I'm very pleased but incredibly nervous! Have to give a ten minute presentation, question is "What are the challenges for delivering a modern health visiting service in the new nhs?" I have looked at all the mentioned documents/policies but really appreciate any suggestions regarding ' the challenges.' Thank you

Report
tomvie · 08/02/2013 20:36

good luck with the presentation. maybe you could break it down into sections for example economic challenges - funding problems, staffing issues, current government spending on HV but how long will this last if David Cameron doesn't get re elected. Personal challenges - keeping updated when understaffed, feeling valued or not, low morale, increasing workloads. Also this year will see the redistribution of funding from PCT to GP and do GP's really understand what a HV does so it is up to the HV to 'sell' services and make people see what a valued service we are. Just a few ideas. Hope this helps.

I would look up 'Compassion in Practice' vision and strategy, the part particularly relating to Health Visiting/ School Nursing as this is very current (December 2012), The NHS Constitution for England, HV Implementation Plan, Healthy Lives, Brighter Futures and Healthy Child Programme.

Possible interview questions may include:

Why you want to be a HV.
Describe the role of an HV.
What challenges face the HV profession.
How you will cope with demands of the course.
How you cope with stress.
What makes effective teamwork.
What your strengths and weaknesses are.
What Clinical Governance is.
