chewie29 · 16/04/2012 14:56

Hi all.
I am currently a staff nurse on maternity leave and I have been very lucky, I have managed to get an interview for a Student Health Visitor Post tomorrow. Has anyone any advice they can give me for the actual interview? I am stressing as it is something I have wanted to do for a long time! I have send by little man over to his nans this afternoon so I can concentrate, I have just been getting more stressed as the day goes on. I have been preparing for the interview for some time but I'm worried my nerves will ruin it for me! Any advice or tips would be great. Thank you.

Hi there
I?m new on Mumsnet so please take it easy on me ;) Just wondering if anyone could help. I am currently community staff nurse and applied for student HV program. Only today I found out I?ve been shortlisted for interview for this coming Wednesday (in 6 DAYS !!!!!). Unfortunately working until Wednesday so don?t have much time to prepare.
I been asked to do 10 minutes presentation on
?What are the challenges for delivering a modern HV service within the new NHS??
Can anyone give me some ideas please? I?m now starting to panic Confused

Archie2012 · 30/05/2013 18:31

Hi iberostar, they gave me information at my interview stating the salary would be up to £23, 500, however received my acceptance letter today and the salary was bottom 5. I''ve worked as a band 5 with LCH for 7 years so thinking this may be a mistake!! Have you had your letter yet? When do you start? X

Leah1989 · 30/05/2013 18:40

Hi Ladydeen,
You could mention staff shortages perhaps, but then link it to healthy implementation plan which aims to overcome this by training and recruiting 4200 new staff by 2015. Language barriers, ie; people not understanding English may need interpreters booked in order to get info across. Also co-operation from families and society not reporting issues. Give examples of case study. Then at the end of presentation talk about the benefits that the new nhs will provide.
Hope that helps good luck.

Emily21xx · 05/06/2013 15:25

Thanks sweetie pie :) for those of you that are doing your training at the mo do you have to apply for a job at the end of your training? I didn't know if you were guaranteed one with the trust you are training with?? Thanks in advance, getting very nervous now!!

Archie2012 · 05/06/2013 21:01

Hi iberostar
What band are you on at present? Rang hr today but they don't seem to have a clue with regards to my expected salary, think you may get slightly more if you are a band 6 !! I have been speaking to somebody through Facebook who is starting in January :) x

tomvie · 06/06/2013 22:10

I am a student at the moment and in my final few months. As a student you are on mid point band 5 which is currently £23800 approx at the max. If you are newly qualified RN you will start on bottom. Regarding jobs, the NHS trust that are giving you secondment will offer jobs at the end of the training. They will probably ask you to commit to that on your contract although not sure legally how enforceable that would be. The HV training is not actually paid for by the trusts but by a pot of money in government as I understand it.good luck to you all. It has been hard work but worth it.

Hi all, this has been a fab thread! Currently I'm working as a staff nurse within a HV team. I have gained a place for September 13 at Bolton Uni I will be working for Pennine Care in Oldham Lancs. I am very excited to see so many enthusiasts for the HV role on here as I spend most of my time defending the role!!! The 18 months I have spent as a Staff Nurse have been invaluable to my success gaining a place and I really recommend it as a stepping stone to becoming a HV. Good luck to all who are applying, awaiting interviews or decisions and to those who are starting their courses! It's a fab role and I can't wait :-) :-)

Archie2012 · 07/06/2013 17:41

I had my student health visitor interview in May at Leeds met university. I was well prepared and thought I had done well in the interview however the interview was a group interview which I've not had before. Unfortunately I was unsuccessful found out yesterday and ask for feedback which I have not received. I am a mental health nurse of 5 years and thought I would have some good transferable skills. Oh well I'll try again next time.

Littlebitwoo · 08/06/2013 22:14
