Student Health Visitor Interview!!

1000 replies

chewie29 · 16/04/2012 14:56

Hi all.
I am currently a staff nurse on maternity leave and I have been very lucky, I have managed to get an interview for a Student Health Visitor Post tomorrow. Has anyone any advice they can give me for the actual interview? I am stressing as it is something I have wanted to do for a long time! I have send by little man over to his nans this afternoon so I can concentrate, I have just been getting more stressed as the day goes on. I have been preparing for the interview for some time but I'm worried my nerves will ruin it for me! Any advice or tips would be great. Thank you.

Hi all had an interview at Greenwich on Wednesday and got a place!! They told us on the day so didnt have to wait, So chuffed, they asked about my current role a lot and transferable skills, and surprised us with an essay type scenario too, thanks so much for this thread, I start in January and can't wait! Good luck to all that are waiting and those who have got a place xx

For those who have done the numeracy and literacy tests, can you tell me if you are allowed a calculator please. I am trying to practice without one but I just want to know exactly what to expect. Thanks alot.xx

Leah80 · 06/04/2013 14:20

For anyone interested I've started a closed Facebook group www.facebook.com/YahooOmgUK/posts/232882916836626 for people to share ideas and advice on gaining a place on the course and for students to share advice or ask questions. I've noticed there's not much around for student hv unlike with nursing and midwifery. I will updating the group when I can and will be adding useful documents in due course. Hope no one minds me posting :) x

Hi Leah80, What a great idea, I've just requested to join the group on Facebook, I have an interview on 15th April, would be grateful to have any tips/advice.

Mummyh003 good luck with your interview on 15th, the open day was really good, they talked a lot about innovation, about what to expect on the course and about the health visitor implementation plan. Let me know how you get on :)

Leah80 · 06/04/2013 17:35

kazlar thank you and I've accepted your request, there's not much at the moment but would be great to build up a useful group which others can use to get information and advice.
Good luck with your interview x

kazlar · 06/04/2013 20:14

Thanks Leah80 xx

Moochi1986 · 06/04/2013 21:24

Hi Lancsy

Congratulations.... Is this through Virgin Care? I applied to Sussex Trust!! Still waiting to hear ;-( xxxx

happylaws · 07/04/2013 11:08

Ive requested the group on facebook too!!

I went through all these posts the other night and started to compile lists of application support, interview questions asked, scenarios, reading lists, useful websites etc. its all scribble at the moment but I want to put it in some order to help me prepare.........I will post on here to summarise as soon as I get a chance. In the meantime if anyone has anything else to add that would be great!! I have found these posts extremely useful and I believe that if we all really keep trying and helping each other then we will get there in the end :)

happylaws · 07/04/2013 11:56

Ive just joined the facebook group and we have already began to add some of the documents. Brilliant idea Leah xxx

Leah80 · 07/04/2013 12:33

happylaws thank you for joining and helping, I was going to go through the posts and do similar. I agree that together we can help each other x

liscav · 07/04/2013 14:00

hey all, i have also requested to join the facebook page :) grand idea !!
i have interview in Bournemouth on Tuesday, which im starting to panic about :(
i have been/am reading everything i can but sort of having a feeling none of its going in.
i have group discussion before individual interview, and although i am a mother, a mature student and have a health visitor for a mum, i am newly to be qualified childrens nurse and feel slightly out of my league with all the other well experiened nurses that will be there.
what do you think the group discussion will be about ? hcp or call to action maybe ?
x

kazlar · 07/04/2013 15:54

Hi Liscav, I have to do a group session for interview aswell in Bristol, I was wondering if it might be scenarios or something, perhaps on current topics for improving health like - obesity in children, whooping cough, tooth decay. These were mentioned in an open day which I attended for health visiting. Would appreciate you let me know how your interview go's, as mine is a week Monday. Good Luck :)

Lpool123 · 07/04/2013 17:41

I attended an interview with a group discussion and we had to discuss obesity for 25 minutes, we had an article to refer to as well. I loved it it was by far the best bit of the interview! X

Lpool123 · 07/04/2013 17:42

15 minutes even haha x

Lpool123 · 07/04/2013 17:44

Is anyone still waiting to hear from liverpool? X

JJonesx · 07/04/2013 17:46

@Lpool123, do you have a health visitor in your group when you discussed the topic? and do you have specific questions to answer and discuss or just the topic in general - what we think about it etc? xxxx

AutumnDaisy · 07/04/2013 20:52

Lpool123 I'm still waiting... I'm sure it said they were interviewing in April. I just hope they give us enough time to prepare. I know last year they had to complete an assignment and prepare a presentation for the interview! x

lou221291 · 07/04/2013 21:20

Hi autumndaisy and Lpool123 i have my interview for liverpool next week? when you guys say you have applied to the university is this for the bursary route? i have to do a presentation for mine!
Hope you find out soon!

cath889 · 07/04/2013 21:25

Hvhopeful most hv said no calculator, I found bbc skillswise helpful, and if you type into google health visitor literacy nd numeracy there are a few links to some sample papers.
Pinkyblondeprincess thanks! Fingers crossed for you too! X

happylaws · 07/04/2013 21:40

Hey lou221291, autumndaisy, Lpool123. I spoke with JMU last week and they were still shortlisting. Its Liverpool community Health that are interviewing next week!! lou221291 you have done fantastic to get an interview!!! Trish said there was 175 applicants and only 64 are getting interviewed for 30 spaces. I'm just gutted I only found out the day before the closing date :( I got the gist of the personal statement totally wrong!! :( and it was so rushed I literally had to do it overnight!! But good luck with your interview!!! What have you had do your presentation on? xxx

lou221291 · 07/04/2013 22:17

Happylaws Thank you so much i was very suprised that i got an interview really! its on the role of the health visitor i think this is the general thing as i have an interview for central manchester and its on the same topic. Have you also applied to JMU? if so what is this for?
