Woolly Hugs. Sad news we are afraid. Making a Blanket for lovely Mowly77's family

You may have heard the dreadfully sad news that lovely Mumsnetter Mowly77 died on November 18th. Cancer is a devastating, insidious and indiscriminate disease. Life has been very cruel to them all. Her daughter is still very little, only 5 this year. Bless her heart. Mowly77 had been organising the Stage 4 Cancer thread on Mumsnet, not a place anyone wants to be, but she did so with resilience, rage, humour, alongside absolute love and support.

We are so glad we can make a Woolly Hug, we hope it may give whatever comfort it can. There will be love crafted into every stitch. We want it to be a celebration, tribute and to help her daughter keep memories.

So we are now asking for help once again. We shall need crafters and donors of funds and wool, can you help us? We’d be so grateful. Thank you so much.

Important crafting info
Squares to be six inches, using 4mm needles or hook. Please knot off VERY carefully when finishing or changing colour and sew your ends in, thank you! No blocking please, makes it much easier to join squares.

Simple or complex, made by beginner or expert, we genuinely welcome them all. It really is the love and thought that counts.

Ideas from her wonderful friends.
Initials are F and T
They LOVED cats, so all the cats please!
The family live at the seaside, so anything there please.
Her relatives are from the US, so a flag would be good.
Books/newspaper, typewriter would be good, she was a journalist.
She loved doughnuts, so this could be a fun square.
She loved music, particularly Madonna and Kate Bush.
She often wore red lipstick
Big bright flowers - she had a big coat she wore on the beach, covered in these.
Parks, countryside - she loved walking

Sky and sea blue
Greens
Rich purples

Then to create the above ideas, so accents/ not whole squares
Cat colours, whatever you need for cats, greys, orange, black, browns etc
Red, just this one please Drops Merino Extra Fine DK 11, Crimson red.
Yellow, this one please.. Drops merino extra fine DK no 24 ‘light yellow’ can be bought here..

It is very nearly Christmas and we know this is a very busy time, but are keen to get underway. We will have a last posting date of January 27th, so plenty of time we hope. Thinking of wonderful Mowly77.

I would love to knot or crochet a square or two.
Nothing fancy, but maybe plain ones will be nice dotted here and there?
No mention of stiches preferred, so would stocking stitch be acceptable, or a granny square if crochet?
Of all the yarn, I have, there is no Merino - if anyone can send a ball or two my way, it would be appreciated.
I would love to be involved in such a beautiful project.

Regarding stitches, it’s totally up to you. A garter knit or traditional granny square are absolutely beautiful. We need these to help balance out the themed and more complex squares.

@ElizaBlack thank you, I'd suggest as it is so specific to use the right colours, Id suggest the off white/cream would sit better in the blanket, but def use that and the proper blue. Can send to you if you message your address?

Hello, I will make some squares for this. I made some for a previous blankets where I made a pocket with a little guinea pig and another with a heart, but I could do similar with a cat in the pocket. And I’ll have a think about other ideas and squares. I’d be grateful for a wool donation though as not sure if I have the right colours at the moment.

As per usual, I still cannot knit for toffee but am happy to purchase some yarn to send on, if you just let me know the details.
