You may have heard the dreadfully sad news that lovely Mumsnetter Mowly77 died on November 18th. Cancer is a devastating, insidious and indiscriminate disease. Life has been very cruel to them all. Her daughter is still very little, only 5 this year. Bless her heart. Mowly77 had been organising the Stage 4 Cancer thread on Mumsnet, not a place anyone wants to be, but she did so with resilience, rage, humour, alongside absolute love and support.

We are so glad we can make a Woolly Hug, we hope it may give whatever comfort it can. There will be love crafted into every stitch. We want it to be a celebration, tribute and to help her daughter keep memories.

So we are now asking for help once again. We shall need crafters and donors of funds and wool, can you help us? We’d be so grateful. Thank you so much.

Important crafting info
Squares to be six inches, using 4mm needles or hook. Please knot off VERY carefully when finishing or changing colour and sew your ends in, thank you! No blocking please, makes it much easier to join squares.

Simple or complex, made by beginner or expert, we genuinely welcome them all. It really is the love and thought that counts.

Ideas from her wonderful friends.
Initials are F and T
They LOVED cats, so all the cats please!
The family live at the seaside, so anything there please.
Her relatives are from the US, so a flag would be good.
Books/newspaper, typewriter would be good, she was a journalist.
She loved doughnuts, so this could be a fun square.
She loved music, particularly Madonna and Kate Bush.
She often wore red lipstick
Big bright flowers - she had a big coat she wore on the beach, covered in these.
Parks, countryside - she loved walking

The Colours
Sky and sea blue
Greens
Rich purples

Then to create the above ideas, so accents/ not whole squares
Cat colours, whatever you need for cats, greys, orange, black, browns etc
Red, just this one please Drops Merino Extra Fine DK 11, Crimson red.
Yellow, this one please.. Drops merino extra fine DK no 24 ‘light yellow’ can be bought here..
Pinks

(Please shout if you need any others to achieve this)

The Yarn we will be Using….
Debbie Bliss Rialto DK only available on Love Crafts
Drops Merino Extra Fine DK
Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK
Katia Merino 100% DK
King Cole Luxury Merino DK
Patons Merino Extrafine DK

Just from the brands listed please because we know they combine for wash and wear. If you still have any of our wools that have been discontinued - Artesano Superwash Merino DK, Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK or James C. Brett Pure Merino DK in your stash, please do use them.

It is very nearly Christmas and we know this is a very busy time, but are keen to get underway. We will have a last posting date of January 27th, so plenty of time we hope. Posting will be Teddington, please message if you need the address. If you'd like to include a card for her family , please send with your squares. And please don't forget to include your name!

Thank you lovely crafters

Thinking of wonderful Mowly77. Thanks

I am on the stage 4 cancer group started by the lovely Mowly. She was so kind and generous to all of us on there and always lifted us up with her humour. I was so sad to hear the news and am thinking of her family and her daughter, bless her little heart. I am very happy to knit a couple of squares for Mowly's daughter's blanket, one from me and one from my lovely friend who also knew her on here, and will make a start after Christmas.

MrsFloof · 20/12/2023 16:56

With the initials 'F' is the Mum (Mowly) and 'T' is her daughter. We thought it would be nice to have the 2 initials together or in a heart though not sure what's possible not being a knitter but some way of showing her Mum's love for her daughter.

ElizaBlack · 20/12/2023 16:56

I could do a US flag but what about colours?

I have the right Drops Merino 11 red and could buy some purple to use instead of royal blue, but what about the white? Or, two shades of blue and light cream?

bigfloweryteapot · 20/12/2023 17:01

I’m happy to donate towards wool or any other expense as my knitting days are over due to arthritis in two fingers that are very much needed for knitting.

where can we send a donation pls?

I know her daughter really loves cats, they both did. When she was very close to the end and in hospital she was saying she wanted to be with her cat and daughter. She did make it home for her last few days to be with them.

oh what incredibly sad news. Her poor tiny daughter. 😭

cancer is a bastard!

@MrsFloof

thank you for sharing that, I'm so glad she got home.

I read a few of her posts, I'd have liked to have known her IRL.

K&P I'll message you soon (I'm out just now)

I can't knit or crochet but I can buy wool for someone who has these skills but cannot afford to buy wool. I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting to contribute. If a mechanism could be established please let me know

This is me too. No knitting skills but would like to buy wool. Anyone who can find the space and heart while facing that situation deserves to be
Remembered by us all ❤️

devildeepbluesea · 20/12/2023 18:48

I’m a total knitting beginner, but would be honoured to do a couple of block colour squares? I can buy yarn if I’m told what to buy.

KnottyAndPistey · 20/12/2023 18:55

I can do this if you’d like? I can do the initials with a heart? I need to check my wool stash @KnottyAndPistey I’ll let you know if I need any colours tomorrow if that’s ok? With much love as always, and hugging my little one just a little bit tighter after reading this sad news xxx

Raiponceinatangle · 20/12/2023 19:17

Sorry @bookbook just seen your message about doing the initials, I’ll pick something else no problem
