How depressing. I thought we were done with drag . . .

That's not drag though, is it? That's dressing like a trans man who wants to be mistaken for a woman.

alcovecupboards · 05/10/2026 20:46

Did you really think drag was 'done'? It's hugely popular and will remain so.

JustEatThePizza · 05/10/2026 20:47

He's actually exposing less flesh than he normally does.

Don't you mean a 'man who wants to be mistaken for a woman'? A 'trans man' or 'transman' is a woman who wants to be a man.

i thought it was on its way out now that the BBC are stopping Drag Race. I guess I’m just not keen on Tom Daley and his husband, having acquired their 2 children by surrogacy. Conflating two different issues I guess.

The BBC stopped because of their vast budget cuts - I believe the show is continuing. Though it doesn't really explain why you found it depressing. It sounds like you just don't like him, so I'm not sure why you bothered to read a non-story about him.

HermioneWeasley · 05/10/2026 20:55

Of course he did. There’s no end to his misogyny

Tootingbec · 05/10/2026 21:03

God it’s grim. Why don’t they ever do a make over of your average woman - one wearing jeans, hoodie, no make up and hair in a claw clip.

Always so…..pornified. And those pictures of him are ridiculously heavily filtered, he looks like a plastic, sexualised doll.

Stunning and brave

I don’t particularly like him, no. He has a real problem with women having sex based rights, tells kids they can be born in the wrong body and bought his children.

Eh? Drag has been around longer than TV never mind longer than the bbc show. It will continue fine without the show.

It's interesting isn't it? On this forum a couple of the age of him and his partner who created a family by surrogacy would be pulled into shreds from multiple directions, starting with an "abusive" power imbalance and age gap (met at 19/39, engaged at 21/41 married at 23/43), then surrogate children, which for a pair of men in the US is effectively buying babies.

I find his views on men in women's sport offensive unless he's altered his stance in the last few years. I'm not surprised by this latest attempt to stay relevant and seek attention.

Wishesandhorses · 05/10/2026 21:16

Mm. Generally thought to be about 2 years isn't it?

Dandeloosha · 05/10/2026 21:22

Drag gives me the willies. Always has, even Widow Twankee in panto creeps me out. They portray the very worst stereotypes of women - over sexualised, bitchy, and vainglorious. Even when I was a child and didn’t ‘get’ it, I still found it gross. Remember when you were little and Jimmy Savile gave you the ick but you couldn’t work out why? It’s like that for me.

Nope, “drag” is a “queer” concept. Men playing women was legally enforced in Shakespeare’s plays, and without checking i believe it was Twelfth Night, where a boy plays a girl pretending to be a boy.

Shakespeare played with concepts all the time.

followed on by music halls and poking fun and doing the same with societal rules, around politics and male and female roles.

then there came the pantomime with females playing young males, the principal boy, such as Aladdin , Cinderella, and Peter Pan.

interestingly the baddy step mums were played by males.

Drag grew from this with many comedians using female personae to be far more obnoxious than the male self could get away with notably Lilly Savage, and Dame Edna Evaridge.

There was a lesser known pair called Hinge and Bracket.

Chuck in life of Brain who had a side current of commentary on the whole theatrical movement, and the daft belief that men can be women sneaking in to the public agenda as early as the 1970’s

None of these characters asserted men can be women.

i dont find any of that offensive.

Drag is very very offensive as is Tom.

“The man who would be queen” is on my reading list, it does seem a pre occupation of some “none trans women”, who are gay.

Some men just cannot stand us and our boundaries and now want to rent our wombs.

What would you say about a foul-mouthed prostitute character who had two children in her act? Is that more offensive or less offensive than Tom Daley having his make-up done and wearing a knitwear dress?

I know. But I'm asking you a question about which you find more offensive. Is there a reason you aren't willing to answer?

Because the question doesn’t make any sense🤣🤣🤣

I cannot answer because i do not know if it is hypothetical or real, what was or was not said or done, how old the children might be.

And most importantly wether said prostitute was A MAN OR A WOMAN, since you do not make any distinction in your posting habits.

do you realise how stupid your question is?

"Character" rather suggests fictional, does it not? Children are teenagers. Given the thread - it shouldn't be a leap for you to grasp that this is a drag character. Now you have it spelled out for you, are you able to answer whether this man playing a woman, a mother, a foul-mouthed prostitute with her children is more offensive than Tom Daley having his make-up done and popping on a knitwear dress?

Who is this character you're referring to? Post a link and someone might be willing to answer your riddle.

Not a riddle. A simple enough question. I can't help but feel there's a reason she won't answer though.

Even if the other 'character' turns out to be more offensive, that doesn't mean that what Tom Daley is doing isn't offensive.

Probably because nobody understands what you're on about.
