I finally said something in public at work

We had a training day at work about making assumptions and the way that we as emergency service workers need to think about how and why we stereotype.
Part of it was looking at celebrities and saying whether we thought they were sad or bad (holding up cards) And lo and behold JKR came up. Of course there was the usual (twattish) bloke (TB). “Oh she’s so bad. She’s a transphobe” I immediately said she’s neither. She’s a bloody queen. And also pointed out that she’d never said anything that could be considered transphobic, but standing up for women.

A surprising amount of other people agreed with me and then gratifyingly, the trainer also said that before including her in the series of photo, he’d read through everything she has said and he agreed that all she has done is to protect women’s spaces.

I was so happy, scared, worried etc but I bloody did it. I’ve only ever spoken in the shadows, as it were, with people that I’d quietly sounded out before. À year ago, I would probably have been looking at the possibility of a discussion with management if not a disciplinary, and now this.
TB made some grumbling about what he’d heard and read and then settled down into a grump. He has form for being a twat generally in discussions but this time he got shut down by the room.

Oh I'm so sorry to hear of your affliction. I hope you get better.

Do carry on seething while trying to get the last word 😂 feel free to have it

AimsAndObjectives · 15/09/2026 23:03

Excellent work @AlPaccacino .
IMHO, being strong enough to stand up for what you believe is right will make you a better emergency service worker. Who knows, it may even help you to save someone's life one day!

(Ignore the resident transactivist. He seems to be escalating today)

Ereshkigalangcleg · 15/09/2026 23:04

Anyway OP, well done 👏 it can be daunting speaking up.

Really well done @AlPaccacino for speaking up.

ErrolTheDragon · 15/09/2026 23:18

Well done, OP! And well done that trainer too, for doing his job properly and finding out the reality behind TB and company’s lazy anti-women stereotyping.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 15/09/2026 23:19

There’s always a TB around somewhere, isn’t there!

IwantToRetire · 15/09/2026 23:33

Thanks OP, its a plus for all of us.

And dont let those who have no interest and even opposition to women's sex based rights derail you - or this thread.

Just think of it as that annoying background noise that it actually better for us to just block out get on with our lives.

Is that what it is when you believe in women's rights and biology but don't obsess over trans people? Lot of that around here.

Is that what it is when you believe in women's rights and biology

Your opinions in the various threads in FWR appear to be limited only to criticizing JKR.

Do you have anything else to contribute to support women's rights and biology?

To be fair to this poster, they are not a one-trick pony and have lately diversified into making nasty insinuations about Nick Wallis. See "The Sacrificial Lamb" thread, for example.

Good to know.

F*k Donald Trump.

Ah, my first thought was David Tenant, and I would have agreed with that.

They do get upset when women’s response to the spreading of their pearls of wisdom is to point and laugh at the inaccuracy and inconsistencies. Also when women say no.

Even here…. 🤣🤣🤣🤣.

Well done for speaking out OP.

TB made some grumbling about what he’d heard and read and then settled down into a grump.

We need more of this, time to find a way to stop their gums flapping, give them the hook for their hammy over the top drama. Work needs to go back to being just work, not a incessant soap opera.

I was also thinking this, that they were balancing the hate to cover all bases!

well done on giving your thoughts and experiences OP, so many people parrot the same jkr transphobe stuff but if you ask them why, they have no basis for it.

Screamingabdabz · 16/09/2026 08:07

Good for you op. 🫶🏻

TheSlantedOwl · 16/09/2026 08:09

Well done @AlPaccacino ! That was brave of you and it’s so heartening to hear that others spoke up too.

Seriestwo · 16/09/2026 08:22

I had to leave the Ravelry FB page a while ago because of the idiocy.

I’m amazed the site is surviving, what happened to go work go broke?

TheKeatingFive · 16/09/2026 08:26

Well done OP

It’s very interesting though, how was this narrative created about JKR being the devil? So many people swallowing it without actually checking the veracity. It’s very scary.

What are you on about?

Women’s rights and biology aren’t belief systems, they’re simple facts based on law and science. 🤷🏻‍♀️

The TWAW on the other hand, is entirely a belief system same as any other cult as TW are unequivocally biological males.

It does surprise me, because before all of this I feel her public image was generally good. She was known for philanthropy as well
as creating the much loved books. Some Scottish nats objected to her stance on the independence referendum. But that was about it, as far as I know.

Not at all sure how she became public enemy number one in certain quarters so relatively quickly. Obviously there are always some people who can't abide rich and successful women. So maybe that is one factor.

There would be absolutely no need to ‘obsess’ over trans people if men hadn’t decided they should have access to women’s single sex spaces, now would there?

Shedmistress · 16/09/2026 08:37

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 15/09/2026 22:26

Ravelry FB group are starting and finishing every post with FDT and FJKR. Apparently in the name of resisting fascism. So proud of themselves they are, saving the world with their proud resistance.

Are they still obsessed with trans? I remember when they started with the sharing of packer patterns for little girls about 10 years ago. I left as soon as they started kicking everyone who said 'wait, what?' out.

Seriestwo · 16/09/2026 08:38

Patterns for Dildo cosies.

I ask you.

HermioneWeasley · 16/09/2026 08:38
