On Germany reddit they're saying it's 2 years - so I assume that's what it'll be if they don't misbehave in prison.

Can you imagine how completely out of control that man is with his sexual urges? The girl knew him, and he raped her in what was practically a public space. He was never not going to be caught. But he did it anyway.

I don't know, but huge emphasis is based on personal privacy in Germany, data protection and so on. You're not even allowed to post a photo on Facebook if people in the photo are identifiable and haven't consented.

Can you imagine growing up knowing that your own country thinks that what happened to you was so trivial that a couple of years in jail was sufficient punishment? I pray that she has support from strong women.

Bloody hell. Germany's off the list to visit. That poor girl. Not only did she suffer this horrific crime but for the rapist to get such small punishment.

I wish women and girls who've suffered from both individual men and the state could claim asylum somewhere but unfortunately I don't know a country where a girl's suffering is considered as important as any male's. Where a girl's human rights matter.

And isn't there something pretty sinister about this idealising of 'privacy'? It's another one of those things that sounds all fine and dandy when you say it quick, but the more you think about it...
