We buy loads of this stuff as we are big peanut butter consumers in my household. Not any more though after seeing this policy. Imagine being a GC person working for this company 🙁As ever, their definition of "inclusion" centres firmly around one protected characteristic, and to hell with anyone who thinks sex matters in certain situations.

Can anyone recommend a good crunchy, oil free peanut butter with just just a sprinkling of salt sold in 1kg tubs 🙏🏻

I buy M&S big tub and there Manilife. Aldi also does a big tub.

Manilife is unreal . They sell it in Sainsbury’s. It’s a bit expensive but the best peanut butter I’ve tried .

Saltysweetspicy · 13/08/2026 17:43

I think i'll try Sainsburys own as I'm going there tonight. Sorry if I've missed it upthread, has anyone tried it?

Yes, my husband and kids like it (and think it's similar to the Pip and Nut crunchy PB).

Lidl and Aldi do peanut butter with nothing else added.

PassTheHanky · 13/08/2026 18:07

I love Meridian peanut butter both the smooth and crunchy. Tasty, 100% peanuts, low in saturated fat, high oleic, what's not to love. I buy small jars but a quick google tells me it also comes in 1kg.

GingerBeverage · 13/08/2026 18:08

Peanuts are a quite highly sprayed crop, I’ve heard, so we tend to get organic, which has to be Meridian.

ItsCoolForCats · 13/08/2026 18:11

Well, I feel heartened at how much choice there is for peanut butter these days, so it will be easy enough to give P&N a swerve.

For anyone who is interested, this is my favourite thing to do with peanut butter:

Melt a few good dollops of peanut butter and add a couple of tablespoons of honey and 1-2 mashed bananas.

Mix in oats, ground nuts, chia seeds, ground flax or whatever I fancy and bake it for about 15 minutes. I have no idea of exact quantities as I just do it by eye, but I find the mashed banana is really good for binding it.

I love a slice on mornings when I need a boost for breakfast.

I am absolutely blown away by how many types of peanut butter there are and how knowledgeable Mumsnet is about them!

And yes, isn’t it easy to say a particular group of workers can have endless time off if none of your 30 employees are in that category. I suspect a fair few of that 30 believe in biological reality though…

We like Proper Nutty, though I have no idea if it's also up its own backside!

Someone up thread posted the bad news that Proper Nutty is no longer. We had stopped buying it and hadn't noticed. I loved that it came in a tin but my husband would eat the whole lot before I had even registered it was in the house (only a slight exaggeration).

AMatterOfInfiniteHope · 13/08/2026 18:58

My favourite was/is Pics. Used to be available in Tesco’s. From New Zealand and hard to get in UK.

I like peanut butter stirred through Greek yoghurt. Or on toast and then topped with aubergine or lime pickle.

TheVividAnt · 13/08/2026 19:43

I follow them on Linkedin and this isn't the only policy they have shared. They have loads in place. I just copied this list from a post they did on supporting women and gender equality. doesn't seem like a bad place to work to me?

Unless you manage to wrangle it so you only employ orphans or people who are NC with their parents, giving time off to employees to support elderly parents will cumulatively cost much more money.

Sorry to bang this drum, but we need to publicly recognise that employers make features out of trans policies because they anticipate only a few individuals will ever use them!

Oh absolutely, but to me it kind of looks like giving hostages to fortune. It’s basically showing off, and I agree they think it’s low stakes, but they didn’t need to say it, which is why I think it’s an own goal.

KnickerlessParsons · 13/08/2026 19:48

Lidl do a crunchy PB in the same size tub. It’s a bit more oily, and a lot cheaper.

I’m
a big fan of Pip & Nut though and disappointed that I’ll no longer be able to buy it. I shall email them and tell them.

Do they say they don't support the law in relation to any of those policies, or it just in relation to single sex spaces? From their post:

"Recently, the EHRC’s guidance on ‘single-sex’ spaces came into force.

We want to make it clear that we do not support this guidance".

Just finishing my latest big tub and was going to buy more. Guess I’ll have to look elsewhere. Thanks for the warning.

I think Sainsbury’s might contain saturated fat - might be wrong though

You're boycotting peanut butter because the manufacturer is decent to trans/nb people?

Wow.

Do you also boycott Nestlé for pushing baby formula on mums in the developing world? Or for employing child labour?

Do you boycott firms which unethically source palm oil and refuse to properly pay female labourers?

What about the fast fashion industry...you know, I don't have the time. Because this isn't about you standing up for what's right.

You want to boycott a brand because they're understanding of the pressures their trans/nb employees are under. Nothing else. You just don't like them being decent and flexible to a minority.

Do you reckon this makes you look heroic?

Rather than hateful af?

Those employees need protecting because of people like you.

TransParentlyAnnoyed · 14/08/2026 05:57

They sound like fantastic employers who'd also have good policies on menopause and period leave, be flexible about caring responsibilities etc.

Trans/nb people being treated well is usually a sign of a female-friendly work environment.

Did you any of my previous posts? I am boycotting them because they announced publicly on their LinkedIn page that they don't support the EHRC guidance. I.e. guidance which simply states what the law is. In fact, I said this just a few posts above.

In terms of their policies, if it is viable for their business to give people paid time off because a family member has announced they're non-binary, then they can knock them selves out.

And yes I take a similar stance with other organisations/businesses/charities. I do avoid palm oil (hence asking for oil-free recommendations) tend to buy second hand clothes or slow fashion from businesses like Two Thirds and posted recently that I cancelled my direct debit to MSF because some of their workers were found to be using prostitutes (who I'm sure you would refer to as sex workers).

No one's following it.

And because they recommended the GLP as an authoritative source as to why the EHRC guidance is wrong 🤦🏻‍♀️ The GLP who lost their challenge to the interim guidance in the High Court on all counts (and then lied about).

So yeah, I will stoop supporting a company that makes announcements on things they are clueless about and that promote shysters such as the GLP.

Anyway, I've got some great recommendations for alternatives now 😊

Greywizardtotherescue · 14/08/2026 07:27

If they only employ about 30 people.
Does that mean they outsource the making to another company?
If so, does anyone know who actually makes the peanut butter?
I get my freshly ground at a local shop.

SisterTeatime · 14/08/2026 07:49

I’ve been boycotting Nestle since the early 1990s, it’s my one serious boycott.

Pip&Nut won’t be suffering economically because I stop buying the occasional peanut butter cup.

However I do avoid companies which go out of their way to, in my view, be offensive to women over trans issues, as I don’t wish to give them my custom.
