Sexist Unions boycott Labour women's conference

Unison, Aslef, Usdaw and the Musicians Union are planning to not attend Labour Women's Conference on 26 September 2026 in Liverpool because men are not allowed.

This is breaking Labour party rules against sex discrimination against women and that the Supreme Court judgement is correct:
https://labour.org.uk/resources/supreme-court-judgment-faqs/

This could be a huge issue for Burnham and Labour. Especially as Unison, & Unite are already facing court cases over their refusal to admit women exist.

Like the recent Amnesty trainwreck this could be a self inflicted car crash for TAs in the unions. It will force Labour to choose between reality and catering to a bunch of sexists who don't like it when women get have political meetings without male supervision.

Supreme Court Judgment FAQs – The Labour Party

Supreme Court Judgment: Frequently Asked Questions On 16 April 2025, the Supreme Court clarified that references to “women” in the Equality Act 2010 refer to biological sex (meaning the sex of a person at birth), not gender. This means that certain sex...

I only appear 'very angry' because I see through you and you know I do.

😂😂 And for your next trick....?

No you're not. You're asking me to comment on something that you won't explain and you have an answer in mind. I've been quite clear that until you provide the appropriate context, I won't answer. You seem to have trouble with this. That's unfortunate for you.

Not at all. You were very clear in your post - the male Dr should move on and treat another patient. I'm asking you to explain what you meant and what you think the Dr should do in the time between the woman or girl saying no and moving on - given he obviously can't leave her unattended.

So, to recap. You went off on one about a board set up to discuss gender identity in relation to feminism doing what it was set up to do because you didn’t know that was why it was set up. Now that has been clarified you’re continuing to lash out at everyone who explained that to you. AND you don’t contribute to the other feminism board despite apparently being so concerned about all the other ‘more important’ issues facing women.

Did I miss anything?

The point? The plot? The crushing realisation of your own existence?

Which bit was inaccurate?

Ooo. Maybe you could point me to the thread you started on medical misogyny.

Why would she stay? She's refused treatment from the only medical professional available. Should he stay to watch her not leave? This is why context matters - as I said.

Because it’s the pesky women who somehow coerced the Labour Party into banning the poor men from taking sears ment for women. The funny thing is, transmen could have had those seats, what with being female and all…. TRA never seem to think of that

The focus on the women's conference is what I would question. It seems to be acceptable to force women's organisations into the position of resolving this whole thing when everyone knows it's intractable and also there are difficult political optics in every direction. I don't agree with specifically women being put in this position. The Labour party has made a decision. The Unions if they were really going for it should be boycotting the Main conference- and just to be clear I'm not suggesting they do that, but I am pointing out they wouldn't do that. Therefore why is it acceptable to boycott the Women's conference. Women aren't causing the problem. The problem is multi faceted.
Yes I'm afraid I do think it's sexist. And I wouldn't use the term Gender critical. I never bonded with the word cis either and both these reactions are partly aesthetic ones- plus I'm not fully on board with the concepts, although people on here have undoubtedly more developed ideas and maybe more thorough ones. . Never could get on with Ms. Has no vowell. We don't seem to get given very good vocabulary although we do our damnedest with it.

WrongKindOfFeminist · 27/09/2026 22:56

Of course its sexism.

Your post didn't make any mention of the number of Drs on duty though, did it. You were very clear - leave her and move onto another patient. When you posted that, you must have realised that a Dr couldn't leave her alone and at risk - so what did you really think he should do when she said no?

Nor did yours. I did say it depends on the context however. You refuse to provide the context.

Oh, now it’s Mumsnet in general is it? Is that because you’ve made a bit of a tit of yourself not knowing what this board is for?

You do seem to spend an inordinate amount of time getting cross at strangers on a website that ‘doesn’t matter’.

Well it was quite obviously a reference to Mumsnet as a whole rather than a niche part of it. But I accept that you're not particularly astute.

JanesLittleGirl · 27/09/2026 23:06

alcovecupboards · 27/09/2026 20:05

No. I'm saying we're literally more likely to die due to medical misogyny. Which isn't down to male doctors solely. Female doctors are just as likely to dismiss a woman or girl's symptoms and pain. The entire medical establishment is built on the idea that all humans are male. Pretending that a trans woman existing and using a public loo is worse than that is utterly deranged.

Yeah, yeah yeah. And how does that fit into your version of GC? I know how it fits into mine. Gender is a shit construct and it reveals itself at every turn. You appear to have a different view but appear to be reluctant to admit it never mind articulate it.

Oh dear. Do you think you're intelligent? Goodness me. I suppose it's nice to have confidence but really, delusions of adequacy does spring to mind.

SirChenjins · 27/09/2026 23:12

You said circumstances - and that in the majority of cases, leave and go to the next patient. I will give you the benefit of the doubt and say it was obvious you hadn't given any thought to what Drs are allowed to do or how they would manage the subsequent risk to their patient. What we do agree on however is that any male who would ignore the voice of women and girls and their rights to privacy, safety and dignity is outrageous.

Edit - that was to @alcovecupboards obs / the quote was lost in the jumping about this site is doing tonight- it's so slow.

Circumstances are context. It's clear you don't wish to give the circumstances and only you know why. And as fun as it has been to run rings around you, I'm off to bed to get in a few chapters of the Alpine Hotel.
