Same lines as the bbc report, ‘an employee’

Pingponghavoc · Today 17:51

Given they all seem to be charged with something, the polycule is looking unsteady.

I agree with, WerewolfOfLoudon i suspect the arrest has a lot more to do with historical bash back comments than the ann widdecombe ones.

We really do need a WTAF reaction emoji, don't we?

Not a great week for Jolyon Maugham, but I am not a monster and will continue to support TRAINS. I look forward to seeing Sophie Molly post another selfie on the next train that carries him off to meet Jo and the GLP to work on their case against Sarah Phillimore. 🚂🚂🚂

I suspect he was arrested for this:
The posts were published before detectives announced they were treating Ms Widdecombe's death as murder.

And then, after due diligence ie checking his phone/laptop, they found enough evidence of something else that passed the criminal activity level rather than his tweet.

FAFO 😂

This feels legit real to me.

beigetriangle · Today 17:56

we don't know the full details (yet)
possible that's not the public sm messages were the reason for a charge but other communications/actions related.

JulietteHasAGun · Today 17:57

ThatCyanCat · Today 16:57

He might argue that as she's dead, the message wouldn't distress her and it wasn't addressed or targeted at any particular person, just put on the internet in general.

I don't know, IANAL. I can see both arguments. Just have to wait and see. I think his employer would be crazy to keep him on after that but universities are insane these days.

Could distress any relatives I guess?

Aberdeen University were flooded with his previous posts, including the guns with names attached and the "if they don't show love, show guns" (paraphrasing possibly) so it is even possible the Uni reported him from their investigation and handed over his work computer.

Don't suppose we will ever know but arrested and charged is a start.

Will he have a toilet in his cell down the nick, or will he have to use the men's.

Wishesandhorses · Today 18:12

As said, I'd suspect something more has been recovered or seen by police under this that isn't knowledge in circulation, but equally Widdecombe was a well known, well respected government figure, there will be many of her friends and colleagues in govt and I can imagine they were extremely distressed by her death and by these awful, ugly comments about it. Pressure on the police from that direction may have been high.

heathspeedwell · Today 18:14

I think it's likely that the police have found further evidence that hasn't been reported yet.

It's about time that the media stopped pretending that men who identify as women are the 'most vulnerable people ever'.

The sad fact is that 62% of transwomen in prison in England and Wales are rapists or sex offenders. And that recent study from Oxford showed that transwomen are more likely to commit murder than they are to be murdered in the UK.

When men identify as women, they don't suddenly become any safer than other men.

Although this person's message was distasteful, I'm can't quite see how it meets the criminal threshold. Publicly hoping that a deceased individual's death was "extremely painful", and hoping that she died screaming shackled to her bed (referencing the pregnant prisoner story) is disturbing, but as Ann Widdecome herself said:

"Nobody has the right to live their lives being protected from offence or from insults or from hurt feelings."

The posts were made before the manner of Widdecome's death was made known, which makes it... slightly less worse?

That said, if the individual's employers see fit, they should be free to dismiss them for gross misconduct for making statements that reflect poorly.

I'm wondering if the police found worse in this person's other messages, or their harddrive...

I agree with this. Ann Widdicombe herself wouldn’t have agreed with criminal charges for a foul opinion on her. Being sacked seems fair enough though.

Though the ‘Transwo’ is superfluous so should be deleted.

Transwoe...

Æthelred · Today 18:23

Speaking ill of the dead should never be a crime. Even though this man would want you locked up for calling him a him, the police shouldn't be interested in this. If he used a work computer to make these remarks he should be fired.

Vile man!

Herbert has made the R4 six o’clock news.

Jhm88 · Today 18:32

Good. I think more people are getting fed up with the pandering to "trans" (mostly men with a fetish or young people either attention seeking or trying to fit in somewhere) and trans activists. The pendulum swung too far left in general and I feel like it's swinging back a bit.

YouCanCallMeMonster · Today 18:33

ickky · Today 17:00

I really hope the police have checked the hard drives and phones of anyone in his home.

I don't think he should of been arrested for those posts as nasty as they were, it was not criminal, but it is an excellent opportunity to gather possible criminal evidence.

I don’t think what he did should be illegal either but there is a lovely irony of him suffering from the same batshittery of Scottish justice that he undoubtedly revelled in when it was aimed at women who won’t go along with his nonsense. I would put money on him having submitted police reports that would have involved SM posts that are much tamer than his were.

I doubt HH is some terrorist mastermind. He is a moron though. And these men have been getting away with making threats for too long, so it is good to see this come back to bite them

I doubt HH is some terrorist mastermind. He is a moron though.

I suspect there's a lot of manipulation goes on within the polycule. Some of it is probably quite obvious to anyone who sees or hears what is put in the public domain but I strongly suspect there will be stuff that goes on that is not for public consumption. But the message will still get out there. Somehow.

PandorasMailbox · Today 18:39

Hopefully, the Herbert situation will give the University of Aberdeen some thought, although, going by how captured they are, it might take a while to filter through.
