Boily marches to the beat of her own drum highland cow slippers.

I hope she’s ok.

MarieDeGournay · 20/06/2026 12:02

Ahem. Sorry to introduce a contrary note but - Scotland v Morocco - who are the gerbils likely to support? Lots of them are actually from Morocco, there's even a kind of gerbil called the Moroccan Gerbil, Gerbillus hesperinus.
[which is useful cos an argument could be made that the* *hesperinus gerbils could have names starting with H for hesperinus, which would take the heat off the G pages of the dictionary😄]

So there was lots of support for 'the Lions of Atlas' in the Bluey last night, and I expect the capybaras will be up for Brazil next time.

They all fail the Norman Tebbit cricket test😁

But in fairness, when Peak Woo Wanderers play, there are no fans more loyal to the local team than the Bluestocking staff, joining lustily in the traditional chants of
'Peak-Peak Woo-Woo-Woo/We are winners/Who are you'

SionnachRuadh · 20/06/2026 12:07

I leave these things up to the animals. We used to have a cat who loved to watch snooker on the TV, and tried to catch the ball before it rolled into the pocket. It kept her amused, and as long as she didn't knock the TV over it did no harm.

EmpressaurusKitty · 20/06/2026 12:09

My brother’s dog first got interested in TV while watching a sheepdog feature on Countryfile & now tries to catch the football when matches are on.

Boily marches to the beat of her own drum highland cow slippers.

This is true. Not long after I arrived at the Bluey, Boily was absent for ages, and I got really concerned about her, but since then I've learnt that she moves in mysterious ways - well coordinating three pairs of Crocs/highland cow slippers is not an easy task! - so as long as I know she has been spotted elsewhere, I don't worry any more.Smile
I still miss her and her funny pictures though, come back soon Boily💙

MarieDeGournay · 20/06/2026 12:16

Sionnach's cat, Kitty's brother's dog - they join Batshit in the precious company of 'animals who make us laugh out loud'😂

PastaAllaNorma · 20/06/2026 12:19

With our last cathode ray tube telly, during the Summer Olympics Isaac Mewton would sit on top of the telly trying to catch gymnasts on the Uneven Bars events.

Flat screen TVs deprived him of his favourite hunting position so he switched allegiance to the tropical fish tank upstairs to catch fish through the glass.

Great cat, but not overly encumbered with brains.

MyrtleLion · 20/06/2026 12:20

The final is not until 19 July, by which time this thread will probably have moved. I can have a quiet word with @Magpiecomplex and @Hedgehogforshort who likely know where the Tunnocks currently are and see if I can find the seeds when we move. But of course, we will have greater knowledge about the standings at that point as well.

And this is the Bluestocking. I probably do know where the sunflower seeds are, or I’ll have an episode or two of fun looking for them…

MarieDeGournay · 20/06/2026 12:21

Sionnach, I see one of your English cousins has been sharing a platform with some notable political figures. And Andy Burnham😆

[that is not a political statement about AB or anything, it's just an oppo for a cheap laugh😏]

Oh wow, trying to catch gymnasts - that was proper carnivore behaviour wasn't it? But still - sorry Isaac Mewton - delightfully laughable😂

MyrtleLion · 20/06/2026 12:54

Funnily enough I have pictures of all of these. I think Gadget was hoping to be a photographer and captured them all.

Well done Gadget - right time right place very time, eh?😄

Changing the subject to shopping for gerbil t-shirts - recently the website selling gerbil merch was mentioned again, so I tried to order one.
It says my size/colour [a lovely'seagrass green'] is out of stock and I gave them my email for when it's back in stock.
But I have a tumble-weed kinda feeling about it - does anybody know if the site is still active?

Here I am in NJ with DS2 and his family. It’s his 40th birthday (eek!) tomorrow and DS1 and DH will be joining us here. DS1 will find out tomorrow that his SIL and BIL have given him and his brother tickets to the Norway vs Senegal match on Monday so there will be much rejoicing. BIL is insanely wealthy and does algorithms for a hedge fund on Wall Street, and they have tickets for the final, which apparently cost about as much as a new car. The weather here is very warm but the house has central air so I am very comfortable.

Two pairs now. Boily let Kitty keep the ones she found on the Rustler.

Trouble is, Boily doesn't know where the Tunnocks stash is on this thread!

Gillian does. She was flogging Tunnocks Teacakes on the bar a few days back as a 'fundraiser'. For what, she didn't say.

EdithStourton · 20/06/2026 13:19

I used to know a dog who liked to lie on a lap to watch telly.

When One Man and his Dog was on, he would move to the lap with the best view.

Brains is currently shuttling from shade to sun and back again. That's a busy afternoon lined up....

That sounds fun, especially the cool house!

Norway v Senegal sounds like a good match, not too much of a minnows v Leviathan one.

I only just found out that Man City's star Haarland is Norwegian, cos he's playing for Norway in the World Cup, duh😏and Arsenal's Odegaard with a thing through the O which I can't do is too.
I don't know if the rest of them are much good, so the tactics will probably be 'get the ball up to Haarland'.

Senegal are probably similar - one or two stars, like Sadio Mané who is a mensch on and off the pitch, and Koulibaly who used to play in the Premier League.

I can slip into soccer punditry very easily for some reason, although I'm not really a fan, e.g. I had no idea Haarland is Norwegian until the other day!

I'm sure just being there and having the world cup experience will be great for DS1, it would be the same even if it was The Tunnel v the Hanseatic League😁
Have a lovely day with all the family tomorrow.🎂🍾🎉

Chickadeeinme · 20/06/2026 13:26

DS1 has discovered that Senegal’s striker used to play for Watford (his home team) so he’s supporting them. The birthday present apparently includes Senegal shirts for both DS1 and DS2 so they will be even happier about that.

EdithStourton · 20/06/2026 14:40

Ø like that, Marie? Hold down on O and then slide along till the blue box is over the variant you require.
OʻÒƠÖ You can play about for ages.

EmpressaurusKitty · 20/06/2026 14:57

There’s a thread about stuff that feels overrated in the heat. Housework is definitely overrated. Hoovering & cleaning the floors is plenty for today.

MyrtleLion · 20/06/2026 15:52

I did hoovering. For the first time in months. The battery went down from 90% to 30% so quickly. The Walrus then took the dust basket off and it was full. Which explains everything.

Anyway that’s a job that I won’t be doing again for a few more weeks.

Good news, though. The new sofa arrives on Thursday!

We just have to get rid of the old one now, which is a pain because the council has suspended bulk waste collections until mid-July.

AngleofRepose · 20/06/2026 15:54

Bar gerbils, iced coffee please. It's still relatively cool here today, but the heat starts tomorrow. Forecast to reach nearly 32C/89F on Thursday or Friday (yuk) so I have also been clearing space to set up the sofa bed in the living room. And got the large fan down from the attic. And vacuumed and dusted. I can't see myself doing much of anything around the house next week except loads of laundry.

I really don't feel like going out to view on Tuesday, but I suppose I shall manage for a few hours.

I had a cat many years ago who loved watching the snooker, so I used to put it on just for her, then I started watching, too!

Have not been feeling very well for about four or five days, in too much pain to sleep. Some kind of weird rash under my arm, on my chest, and my skin hurts, intense pain (everywhere on my arm except where the rash is). It's not muscle pain. Very strange, so just keeping an eye on it. If it gets worse, will have to go to the doctor. 😑I did finally sleep last night.

A rash on one side could be shingles, very painful (nettle-rash like but far worse) and needs treating asap.

London is pretty hot, and I don't thole the heat very well.

I keep saying at the weekends, I should get offline and catch up on some reading and writing. Maybe I'll do that this weekend. Not to get too meta, but I'm a bit FWR jaded at the moment:

  • Got dogpiled on a thread the other night for being critical of Rupert Lowe, actually in fairly mild terms considering things I know and could have mentioned
  • There's this bloke who I'm sure means well and wants to be a good ally, but oh my gawd the male pattern posting, when he joins a thread he instantly takes up 40% of it, and sometimes I'd like to make a point without it being followed by him sharing his wisdom
  • Since these things come in threes, I'm waiting for the inevitable reappearance of that poster who likes to resurrect months-old zombie threads and pepper you with questions about posts you don't remember making

Someone more digitally native than me could get a good novel out of recurring MN character types.

I'll pop in for a quick one later, after a (hopefully) constructive day.

I'm a bit FWR jaded at the moment

Sionnach, I feel the same at the moment. There seems to be a lot of unnecessary scrapping, just for the sake of it, but I try to keep an eye on the threads just for the news of what's going on with our rights. But, I'm finding it exhausting. So, I end up just lurking around shopping or chat threads.
