This is from their Facebook page today. No consideration for the women who do not want men in their spaces.

@BridgetPhillipsonIsACowardlyJobsworth I did ask them yesterday if they would be responsible if an incident took place in the toilet as a result of this ridiculous policy of theirs. Clearly they would be. I just think ' how can people be so stupid'

did you email or was it on the fb page? Unfortunately I’m not sure anything on the fb thread would have been noted.

Brilliant!

All three terven groups in the NE have at least 1 person someone writing that I know of.

Hi Warrior, do you have any links for North East terven groups? For those of us that might be interested :) Ta.

There’s an active wrn as a first point of call. You will be vetted obviously.

A LWS group.

They’re good starting points

I recognise your name as a regular here; some ppl are obviously v careful about being outed.

It was the Facebook page. I didn't expect a response, I just hoped they had read it and had a light bulb moment.

You have no idea how much this appeals to my (admittedly puerile) sense of humour Smile

If I was anywhere near Sunderland, I would be completely u for it too!

It's willful, performative ignorance, which, unfortunately for them, has had its day. The law has been reaffirmed (ironically), the guidance has been published, and, except for a few tweaks that I think Sex Matters are working on, it's good to go. Sunderland Minster have nowhere to go with this, other than make all their toilets mixed sex, which, I suspect

a) won't go down well with many of their older parishioners or parents with children who are too old to be accompanied anymore but too young to fend for themselves if something goes wrong in the mixed sex space;

b) might leave some of their staff without a toilet (which I believe countervenes employment law, which states that employers must provide single-sex toilets for their staff, or refurbish the toilets they do have to fully comply with universal toilet regulations - keeptoiletssafe is SO much better informed on this!); and

<drum roll>

c) will not affirm their trans-identified male staff/parishioners' Lady Feelz

I refuse to believe there's a massive number of Minster going TiMs in Sunderland. There are plenty of men who can keep them (probably him) safe in the gents.

NUFC69 · Today 14:38

I see that it's made The Latest in the DT (sorry, no idea how to link). They're sure they're not breaking the law, as it's not the law yet; also pointed out that they're single cubicles with the wash basins outside, and we all know that's not acceptable. The Minster also refers to cis women.

Jesus, it was always the law. Idiots.

If you want to join LWS Locals (we have over 50 members in LWS North East) there is a Join Application Form here:
https://www.letwomenspeak.org/locals

It is free to join LWS Locals - you do not need to be a paying member of LWS, although you can be if you want to support LWS.

If you have previously bought merch from LWS I would recommend using the same email address to join Locals. xx

Peregrina · Today 15:22

The Minster also refers to cis women.

How many elderly members of their congregation, who haven't been following the trans active debate are going to see the word cis and say, 'Hey, what?' Is that a typo for something?

BridgetPhillipsonIsACowardlyJobsworth · Today 15:27

I do hope the ministers/leaders of this church don't start calling elderly members of their community "transphobes" because they've never heard of "cis" before, or don't agree with the term being used to describe them. That wouldn't be very Christian of them...

But there’s a simple solution in any larger building, have a third space. We faced the issue in my last church so we converted the two single toilets (including basin) into unisex spaces then retained a men’s, women’s and unisex disabled toilet. Everyone is taken care of

Galatians 3:28

"There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."

Taken literally, that would be an argument that the bible supports unisex toilets. It does not however, provide any basis for letting some men into women's toilet.

Ah, but where is the opportunity to virtue-signal your holier-than-thou smugness in such a sensible solution?

And to signal Very Hard to your trans son.

Given that Sunderland and Darlington are only just over 50 miles apart, I am astonished that the clergy in Sunderland haven't heard of the Darlington nurses and their case.

I expect they agree with La Bumba and the robotic doctor et al and think the nurses are transphobes.

murasaki · Today 15:57

So there are a fair few of the commandments being broken here.

I am the LORD your God; you shall not have strange gods before me. (the Canon is worshipping at the Altar of trans ideology)

You shall not steal (Access to single sex spaces)

You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor (Telling someone they are a sex they are not fits here...)

You shall not covet your neighbor’s goods. (Single sex spaces, sports, prizes etc)

BridgetPhillipsonIsACowardlyJobsworth · Today 16:03

Thanks for the archive!

Methinks the good reverend has no understanding of the law, what it means, when it came into force (2010), how it was clarified last year, how the guidance relates to the SC decision, how the 40 days' thing works, the fact that the law is already enforceable, or, indeed, how to think outside her own little "box."

It is astonishing to me that someone so narrow-minded should be in a position of authority, ostensibly helping to "guide" sometimes vulnerable or grieving people in their journey with Christ. Where is her humility? Where is her compassion for her female parishioners? How did she manage to get through divinity school with so little intelligence and such a lack of understanding of humanity's flaws? Is she always this certain about everything?

HenriettaSwanLeavitt · Today 16:21

And to signal Very Hard to your trans son.

Every sacrifice this woman makes to her integrity and professionalism by placing a false ideology ahead of her Christian faith, will make it harder and harder for her trans-identified daughter to step back from her trans-identity. Genuinely, it is so sad.

FarriersGirl · Today 16:45

Thanks for the article - the fact that the Rev Canon seems to be doubling down on her stance tells me she has no clue about proper safeguarding as we previously suspected. The trouble with many people of 'the cloth' is that their lives come with considerable privilege that they cannot see past it.
