I have explained about Colin before - I accidentally brought him to a Bluestocking in about 2017 and he’s been here ever since.

Thanks, Errol, there are gaps in my knowledge.
Can somebody remind me what this town where the Bluey is located is called?

Guinea pigs - I always confuse them with hamsters - which are the ones that skirt along the ground like hovercrafts? Googled it - yep that's guinea pigs, but I think I was influenced in the hovercraft imagery by the ones with longer coats.

I think what I really mean is that they have four legs, instead of two legs and two arms with really rather human-like hands, like our current rodents.

Not being picky or discriminatory or anything, but ... how would guinea pigs hold the snacks they are distributing, WW23? Perhaps cute little panniers....?

In some parts of the world, guinea pigs are snacks😬

Something at the back of my mind is saying we're in Badley Fuckett, although I'm not sure I've got the spelling right.

Well, I know more about the dark side of the moon (being topical) than I do about tractors, but I am interested in languages, and fascinated by etymology. I have, in the past, studied Spanish, Latin, German, and Welsh. Just starting to think I must get back to my Welsh, join a group, see if I can still form a coherent sentence. There's a pub group starting up near me, so might go along next week.

I have enjoyed following some of your language discussions.

Good language pedigree there. I speak French fluently, Spanish passably (but probably very rusty now), got O levels in Latin and German, and I've dabbled in Arabic, Italian, Portuguese, Swahili and now a bit of Norwegian. Oh and BSL. I just love anything language related.

ChristmasStars · 12/04/2026 22:07

Sorry I'm a bit late as usual I was busy watching Love on the Spectrum and crocheting. Thanks @DeanElderberry for the new thread.

@FuzzyPuffling and @AngleofRepose Clara's got the crew working late. The quilting nook should be ready by breakfast.

Fantastic! Can they build me a hand quilting frame, king-sized rails, with 30" swords please? I was going to try to build one myself and squeeze it into the spare bedroom because the one I want costs £315!!

<all the gerbils stop hammering and turn to look at me, then each other. She doesn't want much, does she, the newbie?>

Sorry, only if they've got the time... and the patience? <eek>

Hedgehogforshort · 12/04/2026 22:12

Oh i forgot i did some furniture for my dolls house that was my sad effort at quilting

I hand-quilted a quilt once. Never again.
I found the tying technique suitably speedy.

But if you want to do whole-cloth, then you have to do it by hand, really.

I haven't made a quilt in... probably 20 years.

Yes, tying is nice and speedy. I just want to try it, see if I can manage without ruining my hands. Some of these women on YouTube , well, they make it look effortless!

I am guessing it has elements of L-space also or would that not be ideal from a security point of view?

Colin seems very sweet - he would very much suit a bow tie collar.

Errol your suggestion of a connecting paternoster had me running to google as it was a new word - well a new use of the word. Thank you, I love learning new words!
I haven't had time to look into the origins of what is a rather odd use of 'paternoster'.

If it is connecting a women-only-women-only space to a women-only space shouldn't it be a maternostra?😃

I think the space would be a bit poorly-frequented and echoey, WW23, but given that the Bluey has so many corners, maybe we can have a nice cosy L corner?Smile

The squeaking is confusing him. He'll get used to it. I'll give him some extra ear skritches and a lovely tassled pillow to sit on.

Blimey! you're right in there with the AI images of the Bluey WW23 - very impressive!

It looks like it was Knitters' Night - you're only allowed in if you're wearing a jumper you had knitted, and if the wool was some variation on feldgrau.

I like your guinea pigs, they look very earnest, their mission in life is to distribute those snacks to the very best of their ability, with style and professionalism
'Something from the Snack Trolley, Modom?'

This being the Bluestocking, there's no need to ask how they manage to push that large trolley around, it's magic, innit?😄

RumNotRun · 12/04/2026 22:28

@AngleofRepose I have been looking for a proper chocolate pudding recipe for ages, as in the American style! I love the little chocolate pots that you can sometimes buy in Lidl but whenever I Google chocolate pudding, I get cake style pudding recipes. Not that I don't like chocolate cake, but it's not what I am looking for. If you have a recipe would you share it please?

The rest of L-space isn’t women only thoug - it’s basically all the libraries in the multiverse connected by the magic of words and odd corridors between stacks. And paternosters - which some think is because they design is akin to rosary beads but I’d always thought was because they’re scary enough to turn anyone to prayer.

Don't worry, I get craftnostic at least several times during the making of a quilt. I love the end result, but sometimes I just want to throw the whole thing out a window (luckily it's soft). I have manic quilting weeks, then nothing for months. It's more like an addiction than a hobby.

Shame cos I'm enjoying the chat.
