Welcome to the Bluestocking women's pub. Men are directed to the Staunch Ally just down the road. Otherwise all are welcome. Pull up a chair, give your order to the Wait Gerbil or the Gerbil behind the bar.

Don't forget to name change if you wish to.

Well I've caught up, and most of it seemed to about cats and husbands, and I have neither, so I'm not in a position to comment😄

I have, however, looked aghast at food being put down on 'worrying' surfaces - food that I'm going to have to eat while looking not just polite but even gracious and grateful about ..😦
If the worry is that there is a free-range cat in the house..😬😱

The big news was obvs Magpie's current weight, which I'm happy about because you're happy about, Magpie, I hope you feel the benefit, and clothes you really like but were a bit tight fit you better nowSmile

knittedsloth, is your Cousin MacRamie Sloth one of the MacRamies of Inverkip by any chance?😁

Just popping in because I saw this in the news. I'm wondering if maybe dormice would be better at inducing sleep than the sleep-gerbils are:

A doormouse is curled up on its back sleeping in hay.

Dozing dormouse found in popped helium balloon in Essex

The tiny creature chooses to hibernate in a deflated balloon in a tree.

Having a coffee at the farm shop. Had online language lesson and then drove to Cowdenbeath for Musical Theatre Fitness and Stretch class.

Saw my arms in studio mirror. I might be morbidly obese cos of visceral fat, but my pumped arms look impressive. So there.

Linda Hamilton, eat your heart out.

ErrolTheDragon · 31/03/2026 16:24

We have been to WWT Martin Mere today and have heard our first chiffchaffs and - oh joy! - skylarks of the year.

EmpressaurusKitty · 31/03/2026 16:25

I bet your pumped arms look fabulous, @WearyAuldWumman. What language are you learning?

WearyAuldWumman · 31/03/2026 16:33

My online lesson is for Serbian, but I’m doing Croatian in tandem, via films etc.

When I originally started to learn, it was still Serbo -Croatian: now it’s Bosnian/Croatian/Montenegrin/Serbian.

I always compare it to Scots and English.

Britinme · 31/03/2026 16:42

Well I got onto our local (state) radio today! They were having a call-in about poetry as it's National Poetry Month in April so I called in and wound up on the air talking about an organization I belong to. Very cool!

Wow.

Are they similar enough to be confusing?

So
'Heyyyy - looking goooood... have you been working out?'
is a perfectly valid question to put to you, WAW, not a sleazy chat-up line💪Grin

edited to say great! about learning a language, and an off-the-beaten-track one at that. Family connection rather than random choice, if I remember rightly?

Any chance they'll bring some helium with them?

That may as well have been written in Cantonese for those city dwellers who can't tell a starling from a blackbird amongst us, but you seem happy about it so

YAY

Chiffchaffs are a no-brainer - they’re named after the sound they make!

Thanks Marie, I have an Earl grey please.
It's adorable, isn't it? And not easily disturbed, it seems.

Boiledbeetle · 31/03/2026 17:14

Having been dragged 3 times round the goat paddock, held up by Gaynor and Gwenda, this morning an early shower was in order today.

I'm not sure about those pyjamas though.

Helium? That would only make the gerbils even squeakier and we won't be able to hear them anymore.

I want to see how long it takes them to hit dog whistle range.

Oh, ok, I mean I'm always up for a scientific project, I shall have a rummage in our bottled gases shed. We had Argon at some point, we might have Helium too.

Of course I may have to consume vast quantities myself as well, just to make sure the helium works of course!

Co Pilot has cut me off untill some undetermined time in the future. I'm currently seeing Grok behind their back!

Don’t squander it, you may be able to flog it for a profit.

Gosie is relaxing by the pool with her book.

No-one would suspect she's an international art thief. And she likes it that way.

She'll probably head back in a day or so...
