Welcome to the Bluestocking women's pub. Men are directed to the Staunch Ally just down the road. Otherwise all are welcome. Pull up a chair, give your order to the Wait Gerbil or the Gerbil behind the bar.

Don't forget to name change if you wish to.

@ifIwerenotanandroid the exhibition was glorious! I normally go nuts taking photos but restrained myself today. I have a couple I can post for you though. The one without an accompanying picture was in response to a beautiful and wildly eccentric piece of pottery. We were lucky to bump into one of the arrangers and learned how they go about it, so that was very interesting too.

Thanks! I love the moose, too.

PastaAllaNorma · 27/03/2026 18:31

@Britinme , that Art In Bloom idea is genius! What a beautiful and incentive way to bring people back to the museums and galleries.

It's really cheered me up.

Oh good lord. Those lilac Crocs do not go with the green AT ALL!

Kudos to you for not letting a lack of ears stop you wearing earrings. That's the spirit!

One of the things I love about where I live is that it's very arty but also nature-focused in a lot of places. We have a good college of art here in Portland, and some excellent museums within reasonably easy reach (especially the one in Ogunquit, which I love), and there is also a fantastic botanical gardens in Boothbay - Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, www.mainegardens.org/?dm_i=7ZB3%2C3OGO%2C4UGNWT%2CINX9%2C1%2C0%2C0%2C0. My DD buys us a joint membership ticket for Christmas every year so we can go any time we feel like it, and I can take a friend if DH doesn't want to go. Yes I do miss the spring you guys get in the UK - ours is very short - but we then have long and beautiful autumns so it all balances out in the end.

That looks like an amazing garden!
But not open until May…does that mean you get a lot all at once?

it makes me realise how fortunate we are in the U.K. with so many gardens, a lot open through the year nowadays. I think we’ve got memberships of everything now we’re retired.

Ooh, @ifIwerenotanandroid and @Britinme, look! A funky nail polish for Android, named Chickadee for Brit!

Yellow? Euww!

This week I've worn glossy raspberry (to go with a handbag), & now I'm wearing a matte-ish metallic pale gold with a few holo highlights. I'm feeling, to quote a 'Car' magazine review, flash as a rat with a gold tooth.

But I draw the line at yellow.

Yes…some of the polishes which have appeared in previous threads have been gorgeous and almost tempt me to try them, but the only appealing thing about that yellow one is its name. 😬

I must admit I wouldn't wear it either!

I've flounced back in to announce I'm off to join Maud and Fawley for a bit of night fishing. Figured I might as well as I'm on a sleep gerbil time out so it beats wandering the house all night!

Britinme · 27/03/2026 21:52

@ErrolTheDragon not much point going before May - there wouldn't be much worth seeing! In May we usually get the rhododendrons and azaleas out, and there are still spring flowers around. It's a big place and lovely to walk around.

@Magpiecomplex - lovely name, hideous colour!

EdithStourton · 27/03/2026 21:58

Magpiecomplex · 27/03/2026 17:52

No, just that hoover technically is a trade name, but people have adopted it as the name for all vacuum cleaners.

Ah, understood.

Oof.
I like the green one that Magpie is sporting, though.

lcakethereforeIam · 27/03/2026 22:08

I thought nature abhorred a vacuum?

There's something very Eastery about the yellow polish. I think it would make nails reminiscent of mini eggs.

Ooh, now a set of nails painted in various pastel colours with speckles so they look like sugar eggs would be brilliant.
