Info is from twitter, here and former members sharing whatsapps that are then shared into other groups to whip up drama.

Watching with interest to see how women’s rights are advanced 👀.

I’ve seen the snide remarks “if you don’t like this group set up your own” many times on here. It’s the women who did set up the Shoppers and gave their free labour to WRN naively thinking it was about women’s rights rather than one woman’s fiefdom who are getting kicked out. I haven’t met @LilyCraven but I remember her work on prisons for WRN. Since they kicked her out WRN have done nothing for women in prison. Not a thing.

Asdexpansion · 11/07/2026 09:43

What is the origin story of the shoppers group? Also I don’t understand was it a coordinator who said fuck you and fuck off? Or was it a member telling the coordinator? And why were they telling them that? Maybe there was good reason?

I’m not being snide - genuinely there are so many places for people to support the cause or step up. MDM and FWS had incredible success re prisons - maybe that model can be pushed elsewhere in UK?

Small women’s groups often suffer from people who think their personal aims are bigger than the cause. Which is why I steer clear - all ego and no go. It’s clear that small branches aren’t a productive place for many women so let’s see what else works.

I think Heather doesn’t like the fact that many women do remember the real story regarding the Shoppers Groups and how they were created and mobilized, but I for one certainly won’t forget.

Say more 🤔 I haven’t heard that one

It was a coordinator telling members to fuck off when they were questioning an announcement.
A few people have emailed Heather voicing concerns about WRN NI but she's choosen not to reply to them.

Just to clarify the difference between affiliation and alliance:

All Women Of groups are wholly independent.

To become affiliated, they must agree to adopt the same two objectives (restore and protect women’s rights, restore safeguarding for children), to vet potential members to the same standard, and to adopt the same group rules. (The rules are not onerous. I don’t believe you need four pages to tell sensible women how to behave. It is haIf a page that boils down to “Behave like a grown-up ”).

Members of the other groups in the network must be consulted for their views on affiliation with the new group.

That’s all. It is as simple as that.

Each Women Of group is autonomous, free to decide its own initiatives, its own priorities, its own membership. The common vetting procedures and group rules are important though because any Women Of member is automatically welcomed by all other Women Of groups and we share info, expertise, and collaborate on matters of wider or national interest. There are several shared working groups, and some will be reporting soon on matters of interest to young women all over the country.

Local when it matters, national when it matters. That’s us.

Sounds great 😊 and less central control so less likely to result in conflict.

There is also the Women of Camden and NW London, who were expelled from the WRN in their entirety not long before the Women of Wessex. They are not part of our affiliated network of independent groups but we are in contact with them and regard them as allies.

Thank you for the info, Lily.

I has assumed wrongly that "Women of Camden and NW London" was a WRN Group because the WRN X Account includes them in their "WRN" List.

So that makes it eleven geographical WRN Groups in the WRN list plus Essex Resisters, Women of Camden and NW London plus WRN Press.

You gave me a good mention.

So big dog balls - what’s your plan to advance the cause of women’s rights? Or are you just sharing your own frustrations now.

Is this about women’s rights or your own vendetta?

Answers on an X post I’m sure.

For someone not in WRN NI you seem overly invested in what the other woman are doing.
Are you the mouthpiece?

Apologies quoted the wrong person

Why are you so aggressive? That poster is clearly someone who has just been ejected from a women’s rights group, of course she hasn’t got an immediate plan to take action single handed.

Sorry I'm not up to your obviously sky high standards.
I presume you're not a WRN NI member because their standards are in the toilet.
Swearing at members, bullying and gatekeeping just to name a few.

It’s a fair enough question though. The members who have left and been expelled from NI are women who had gathered before the shoppers or WRN were formed. We were a small rag tag group protesting in NI and watched the shoppers groups become WRN. We eventually joined WRN.

If the new band of coordinators are sharing information it’s a tad hypocritical of them to quote rules about behaviour and then share with outsiders. But then one of them told women fuck you and fuck off and is still there while the women who went through the proper channels with their complaints and were ignored got chucked out for commenting on a tweet.

That sounds like good background and experience for you all to regroup and put this unpleasant episode behind you ❤️

It is very odd that this thread has attracted the attention of some PP who happily admit that they are not and have never been members of WRN. I don't recall that happening on the previous thread, which started off being about the "Buckinghamshire Implosion" and branched out into discussion about the earlier "Scottish Clearances".

What I do recognise as similar to those earlier discussions is the extraordinary level of aggression and rudeness exhibited by posters ostensibly defending WRN generally and Heather Binning specifically. This is unlike anything I have seen from WRN members "in real life".

Alongside accounts of how "the expelled" have been spoken to in WhatsApp Groups, it makes me wonder if this sort of behaviour is at least partly a product of organising primarily online in text-based Groups, even when Group members are not anonymous? Then on Mumsnet the bad behaviour ramps up under cover of anonymity?

Not forgetting that Mumsnet threads are often joined by bad actors who would not be eligible to join WRN and who revel in sowing discord among women. That is always a possibility, although from comments in this thread it seems that some PP think that they recognise other anonymous posters. Which, if correct, does not cast WRN in a good light.

PP, whether WRN members, ex-members or non-members, wishing to know more about the origins of WRN will find everything they ever wanted to know in the previous thread:

As the @MashaPav shows, this whole thread is just playing into the hands of the TRAs.
I know I am contradicting myself by posting this, but ignore them. Don't give any of this the oxygen of publicity.

Bingo! The official WRN line: don’t question what’s happening, don’t ask why multiple groups are being expelled, just follow orders. Otherwise you’re helping the TRAs!

It’s just NoDebate all over again and it doesn’t wash any more. if Heather wants to claim she represents thousands of women she needs to listen and respond. If she had open dialogue it wouldn’t go to X and Mumsnet. You don’t get to silence women.
