The Bluestocking - Best Pub on the Internet

Welcome to the Bluestocking women's pub. Excellent (if sometimes wilful) gerbil bar staff, varied cocktails, splendid cakes, cracking Sunday roasts...

Voted Best Pub for the umpteenth thread running, join us for conversation about tractors, units of measurement, films, wildlife, and even, sometimes, women's rights.

Just keep Glenda off the gin.

Any men, you can trot along to the Staunch Ally just up the road.

Just off to the hospital again with DH. Those of a praying disposition, please send a few his way.
Hope Bessie is in attendance.

Prayers and all healing wishes to you both, dear Fuzzy.

FuzzyPuffling · 13/03/2026 15:50

Stand down...we get the hospital and the department have managed to lose DH from the list. Despite all the " Two week cancer pathway" letters and texts, he's not on the list! It really shouldn't happen.

I went a bit tiger wife ( in a nice way) and they have managed to book him in tomorrow with a consultant. And got grovelling apologies. Unfair and infuriating though.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 13/03/2026 16:00

Aargh! Not fair, when you're both psyched up for the appointment. Good luck for tomorrow. Hope you didn't have to travel too far.

Fortunately we're only a couple of miles from the hospital. We moved after two years of his treatment travelling 1.5 hours each way, multiple times a week.

And I'm glad we didn't pay for the extortionate parking either!

ifIwerenotanandroid · 13/03/2026 16:06

The AI named the department & gave you the unasked-for Tunnocks!

So sorry they messed you and Mr Fuzzy around today, Fuzzy😠
You deserve a medal or three for taking them on and winning👏

Thanks, chums.
We'll try again tomorrow. Poor bloke will have to starve again from breakfast, but we're going to have a curry tonight.

And yeah...don't mess with the Puffling! 😅

MarieDeGournay · 13/03/2026 16:29

I feel that this is a good moment for Harriet to appear to say 'squeaky squeak squeak squeaky squeak, squeaks!' to Myrtle and Fuzzy and anybody else in need of such well-chosen and powerful words of comfort and supportSmile

Thanks Harriet. You're a sweetie. X

ErrolTheDragon · 13/03/2026 16:31

Oh bugger, that sort of admin cockup shouldn’t happen but it seems tediously commonplace.

ErrolTheDragon · 13/03/2026 16:36

Too much time on MN today has led me craving for steak and ale pie (don’t care if circular or rectangular) and a banana Longley farm yogurt.

Neither of which Mr Dragon bought when he did the food shopping earlier. Probably just as well, we need some post-holiday healthy eating before we book our overdue annual blood tests.

Dear Myrtle I hope you don't mind me making this suggestion, but I feel you should......

STOP!

You have so many things on your mind - your recovery process, your battles with bureaucracy and sofa companies, your job-hunting..

I think you should just stop thinking about anything demanding, just for a few days - no responsibilities, no deadlines, no phone calls, no job-hunting, nothing but clearing your mind and resting and eating and drinking nice things.

Make it a very definite period of time, mark on the calendar when you are going to get back into the fray, so you know it is just a pause, you're absolutely not giving up, you're just gathering your resources.

Mr Walrus sounds so nice and supportive that I'm sure he'd facilitate a short period where you weren't allowed do anything tedious or sensible or necessary or urgent.

It would not be giving up, it would be switching yourself on and off again so you can clear your registers and work better afterwardsSmile

Sorry if this comes across as misplaced, but us Bluestockingers care for each other and when I read that you feel that things are getting on top of you, I felt that the solution is not to drive harder and harder but to take a deep breath and pause for a while to gather yourself... and then go full-on Myrtle the Lioness at life again!

I agree with @MarieDeGournay, @MyrtleLion. You will be more effective if you rest up properly now. If I have to, I will break out my Stern Look (patent pending).

Every time dh murmurs the words ‘walk the dogs’, it starts to rain.

EdithStourton · 13/03/2026 16:47

Oh, bad luck, Fuzzy - how stressful and annoying. Enjoy the curry, and all the best in advance for tomorrow.

It's so bloody annoying when shit like this happens.

Enjoy the curry!

I've just had a Team's meeting.

How the hell do people do that all day?

It's definitely not my cup of tea at all!

Or on a baking sheet or as a pithivier.

Although I like a broccoli and blue cheese pie myself. And peach Longley Farm yogurt.

MarieDeGournay · 13/03/2026 17:09

I was thinking to myself that Fuzzy and Mr Fuzzy look the same, which is not the same for all bird couples.

As can be seen in Android's picture where Mr Fuzzy is distinguished only by his hospital wristband - lovely detail, that- what are you doing in the bed, Fuzzy??Smile

I thought that magpies were another example - in fact it's one of the things I like about magpies, but then I found this
Males have glossy, bright blue shoulder patches on each wing. These patches are absent on females.
Eh? really?
Can our resident Magpie confirm or deny?

FuzzyPuffling · 13/03/2026 17:18

I used to live near Longley Farm. I knew the woman who stirred the cottage cheese. I can vouch for them!

I hate Teams. Fortunately I don't have many meetings for my job or I'd go insane.

Best fuzzy wishes for tomorrow @FuzzyPuffling and Mr Puffling 🤞

Were they Powerpuff Degus @CoutingCrones ?? 💪💪

Mushroom and tarragon pie for me- I'm not veggie but I love love love these
And a Longley farm hazelnut yogurt 😍 thanks

Britinme · 13/03/2026 17:36

You and DH are in my thoughts @FuzzyPuffling .

I'm fairly sure I'm usually depicted with blue patches in pictures here, so I'm going for "both sexes have blue patches but male ornithologists haven't bothered noticing those on females". Or something.
Sexual dimorphism is a funny thing. For many reasons I'm glad I'm not a peacock (specifically the peacock, not the peahen, although I don't much fancy being a peahen either).

Fortunately I don't either. I do miss being self employed sometimes though.

Yes, @FranticFrankie , they were Powerpuff Degus, plus Bean.

Best of luck tomorrow for Mr Puffling. So frustrating that the appointment didn't happen but good on you for going full Tiger Mode, @FuzzyPuffling
