The Bluestocking Women’s Pub: definitely full of ludicrous halfwits who refuse to get a grip (with unionised gerbils)

Welcome to The Bluestocking: convivial by design, opinionated in the best way, generously stocked with excellent food and drink that complies with whatever it’s meant to comply with, and any calories, gluten or alcohol are entirely virtual.

Staffed by impeccably trained, unfailingly polite gerbils who run a tight bar with plenty of enthusiasm and good intentions. Quick with the drinks, but terrible spillers spellers and liable to turn an idle thought on existential existence into a full blown musical with Busby Berkeley routines. You have been warned.

All women welcome, just in case that isn't obvious. Men can go to The Staunch Ally round the corner.

Apologies for my silence recently. My dicky knee has been playing up recently and last night, as I lay down in bed, it decided to really flare up. 😬I had to sit up with my legs straight out in front of me until 2.30sm when it had finally calmed down for me to sleep. Definitely feeling my age today... If the Sleep Gerbils could do their stuff tonight I'd be very grateful.

Sleep gerbils, dream gerbils - except for this one who is sleeping on the job - on their way, hope you have a better night tonightSmile

That's an adorable wee rat

That sounds fun, can we all join in? We'll bring our own cloaks😄

When I was at primary school I had a gold cloak, made from an old curtain. It was much played with.

I'm happy to make another cloak to wear in The Bluestocking. I think our local Sally Army shop will have some old curtains I can choose between.

Not a person who keeps pets myself, but I love to see pictures of them asllep while cuddling their comfort objects.

My hot water bottle probably fulfils the same purpose in the winter.

Not as cute as the gerbil but here’s Kitty relaxing with Furry Mouse.

@NotAtMyAge, I hope the sleep gerbils did their job properly last night.

Yet another dismal cloudy day here. On the plus side, it's not raining - at the moment, anyway.

We had a fine mizzle yesterday afternoon, which kept up all evening.

AuntieMsDamsonCrumble · 04/02/2026 08:43

Oooh! @NotAtMyAge that sounds nasty. I hope you managed to get a decent night's sleep Flowers

EdithStourton · 04/02/2026 09:05

Android, what have you been up to?

We used to dress up for d&d games when we had free evenings pre -child. Now he's got all our dressing up stuff

RandomHypatia · 04/02/2026 09:19

Pouring hard here and bad traffic for heading to work. Not a good start to the day. Hot chocolate and a link sausage breakfast roll please bar gerbils before I head into the lab.

The sun is out here. Hurrah!

lcakethereforeIam · 04/02/2026 10:21

I've just had a call. They want to bring forward my surgery to the 11th. I'm waiting for fella to call me because I'd need a lift, they want me there for 7.30am!

Swashbuckled · 04/02/2026 10:22

Rain, mist and fog here all day. Bit of a bugger as I’m driving inland for a couple of nights after work this evening.

Are there Sun Gerbils?

Fingers crossed for you Cake.

It looks like my tendon may have a partial tear but the radiologist couldn't see part of it and has recommended an MRI. More waiting.

Treatment is probably rest and physiotherapy for months. Depressing.

I'm seeing my surgeon on the 23rd and it would be great if he can recommend the MRI before then.

I'm enjoying knitting the cardigan. It's top-down in one piece and the m1-R and m1-L increases look beautiful even if I managed to lose count between the stitch markers, yet at the same have the correct total number of stitches. I've just put the armholes on a separate circular holder and I'm knitting the body. I did have to unpick two rows of 82 stitches because I had forgotten to change colour, but it's coming along nicely.

They did, thanks. Much better night, but my knee will take longer to settle down properly.

Grey and damp here too and the forecast for tomorrow is dire.

We have had some sun!
I'd go out and garden, but I know that if I do, I'll forget that I have something in the oven and it will get incinerated. Setting an alarm is useless, I'll give myself 5 more minutes and then forget...

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 04/02/2026 12:20

Sun? What’s that?

Fingers crossed you can get to the hospital, @lcakethereforeIam.

The cardigan sounds great, @MyrtleLion. Have you discovered Ravelry yet?

Yes I have discovered Ravelry but I find it difficult to use. It's not well laid out.

I'm sure if I was on there a lot I would work it out. I'm not sure if I want to post my projects for everyone to see...

But there is a local knitting group that I may join...

It's been a day for medical sorting out. I received an appointment for ENT for April to try and find out why my voice is so hoarse.

Then I had a text to call the hospital for an appointment I've been waiting for since the middle of last year. (I'm currently under four specialists, down from five at the beginning of the year, but not including an ND diagnosis). I rang them and the automated voice said I was number 9 in the queue. Several times. So I thought that will take 10 minutes I'll go for a quick wee. And wouldn't you know it, they answered! I had just finished but had to wait to flush...

We have had some sun!

Oh, to see the sun again.... The first hint of it for us on the forecast is Saturday if we're lucky. Even the cat is getting grouchy about not being able to go out without getting wet.

Just popped in to check on the gerbils. Are you absolutely certain this is a gerbil and not a Russian Hamster?
