the RSPB are STILL organising walks for women, but including anyone who identifies as a woman.
They got lots of pushback from women last time they advertised walks like this. I imagine their team is activist heavy and don’t think the law applies to them:

These events are welcoming of any adults who identify as women. We also welcome non-binary individuals who feel comfortable in a women’s only space to these sessions.

Well, it's not a "women only space" in these circumstances, is it?

RSPB, Huh? I wonder if they know the difference between sexes in birds, or if they think a cockerel lays eggs.

mopu · 12/01/2026 14:28

Maya Forstster, Sex Matters and others challenged them the last time they pulled this. It’s ridiculous that women can’t just have spaces for women. Actual women.

Nothing would surprise me.

Rightsraptor · 12/01/2026 14:49

Loads of blokes feel 'comfortable' in a women only space, for all sorts of reasons. It doesn't mean they should be there, though.

As ever, it's about how others feel and not how women feel.

Pingponghavoc · 12/01/2026 15:16

I wonder what everyone involved would think if only men turned up?

A success in the same way a Lib Dem see in all women shortlist, or a failure in that its difficult to be one one the girls when everyone is hoping they are better at tucking than everyone else.

lcakethereforeIam · 12/01/2026 16:03

I've sent an email, told them they're likely to be discriminating against men by arbitrarily allowing some but not others. Suggested they organise events aimed at explicitly including gender non-conforming folk. I'm looking forward to receiving a BBC-esque non answer.

ThatsNeat · 12/01/2026 16:09

Just cancelled my membership, sent an email and told them why

AncientMarina · 12/01/2026 16:30

This is such a shame because the RSPB do so much work for struggling wildllife and they are alienating people who support them.

RNApolymerase · 12/01/2026 16:46

Maybe they are confused because in birds it's the females who have heterogametic chromosomes?

Then just call it what it is then eh?

It’s a walk. For adults. Everyone who likes birds or nature or whatever is welcome. Why go to the actual bothering of specifying ‘women only’ to then follow that up with ‘ but you can also join us if you have a penis. Or used to have one.’

pathetic nonsense

SnowDaysAndBadLays · 12/01/2026 17:03

Whilst I know us women are great, I think perhaps it might be an idea to get the men who support us to turn up, and we don't.
It'll be all males.
They can't complain really can they?

JamieCannister · 12/01/2026 17:10

I would definitely attend one of these if it were reasonably close to where I live, but I cannot see any advertised as women only that are in my region.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 12/01/2026 17:16

It's as if stroppy teenagers have taken over the world 🙄

Just organise walks for people. Stop using charities to push your niche misunderstanding of biology and facts.

AncientMarina · 12/01/2026 17:23

"Just organise walks for people."

Yes this.

It's a country walk, outside, to look at birds in their natural habitat. Let it be for anyone interested and get the maximum number of people involved (and avoid all the pissing people off and negative press).

lcakethereforeIam · 12/01/2026 17:48

I honestly think the only reason they're organising a walk for women is so they can 'include' men with lady brain. Women are only the pretext.

MyThreeWords · 12/01/2026 18:03

Fucking hell, RSPB. I thought it was birds that you care about. What is the point of offering women-only walks in the first place? especially if you don't like the idea of women-only walks being for women only? Just fucking do what your charitable purposes require you to do and stop pissing about with ways to circumvent an entirely fake gesture of concern for women.

Perhaps you think of women as 'birds'? This would explain the fact that you think you have to care about them whilst also at the same time being total fucking misogynists.

JamieCannister · 12/01/2026 18:28

I would imagine that there might be many women out there who are interested in nature, birds, walking and female company. I imagine many of the target participants are aged over 60 and they might well have (1) had enough of men, and (2) not wish to turn up at a car-park in the middle of nowhere and find that it is them and a bloke that are the first two to have turned up.

Men need to start turning up at events for women that invite men to turn up. We need to turn up and say our piece, and then leave. If there's a trans'woman' there we can instead spend all of the event as close to him as possible talking about football and beer and classic cars and steam trains (though I note that one famous trans'woman' barrister who has frequented this board is interested in at least three of those stereotypically male interests - as he is perfectly entitled to be, and would entitled to be if he was a woman).

They are excluding men who identify as male only. How is this not misandry and bigotry?

mopu · 13/01/2026 10:22

they ignored my emails the last time I queried them on this and no doubt they’ll ignore everyone this time too.

And illegal.
The Equality Act 2010 makes it clear that allowing some men i.e. ones who ID as women to participate, but not men who ID as men, is discriminatory.

So under the EA2010, if they send one man to the moon they have to send them all thereGrin
