the RSPB are STILL organising walks for women, but including anyone who identifies as a woman.
They got lots of pushback from women last time they advertised walks like this. I imagine their team is activist heavy and don’t think the law applies to them:

How about just not having any single gender walks, no need and seems odd to even offer them

yeah and let’s just close all single sex schools and organisations like the WI and Masons. Let’s make menopause and breastfeeding groups mixed sex too whilst we’re at it. Can you really not try to understand why single sex activities and provisions can be inportant?

@hohahagogo has clearly not rtft as it's been stated - several times - why it's perfectly justified 🙄

PassTheHanky · 15/01/2026 11:51

I've cancelled my RSPB membership.

I looked at some of the other RSPB "Women Only" walks and one shows that the RSPB do understand why some women need to feel safe. This means they also know they're deliberately compromising women by allowing men on many of their other "Women Only" walks.

"Why Women-Only?
Many women in the UK have sadly experienced harassment at some point in their lives. We know that going out alone into the countryside is something that many women don’t feel safe to do. As a way of supporting women to both feel and be as safe as possible on our nature reserves, we are putting on some events that are exclusively for them. These events won’t be to everyone’s taste, but hope it will allow those, who might not otherwise feel safe, to experience nature in a friendly and safe space, removing some barriers in the process."

justasking111 · 15/01/2026 15:51

I'm shocked you get pervy men in the RSPB. Ours is a mixed bag of men and women in various hides with cameras and binoculars. Always make sure to walk quietly past them so as not to startle the birds on the mud flats or the river. We're all wrapped up because it's usually cold and windy. I honestly can't imagine any sexual assault going on. There's too many folks around.

lcakethereforeIam · 15/01/2026 16:42

I've lost count of the men I've seen who piss in sight of hides.

You've completely missed the point.

Either there's a good reason for having women-only walks, or there isn't.

If there is a good reason, then it's pointless making it open to women plus any man who fancies identifying as a woman today (which really means it's open to anyone).

If there isn't a good reason, then just make it open to anyone.

indoorherbs · 15/01/2026 17:56

I've just emailed asking for an explanation and will cancel my membership if they defend this position.

It's not just the pervs.

It's the mansplainers too.

Just cancelled my membership, sent an email and told them why

The birds shouldn’t have to suffer just cos they’ve jumped on the gender ideology bandwagon. Loads of organisations are doing the same thing out of fear of being labelled transphobic. Not really their fault. Definitely not the birds’ fault

lcakethereforeIam · 15/01/2026 22:11

The RSPB shouldn't be risking having to spend their members and visitors precious money defending this risible nonsense in court then.

really? I’ve been an RSPB member for years and have never seen this.

Plenty of mansplaining, but no other inappropriate behaviour…

lcakethereforeIam · 16/01/2026 09:57

Tbf to the RSPB it's not just their reserves and it's generally the less well trodden areas but it does happen. I'd actually rather they piss outside than go into a hide stinking of wee. I try to think it's an old man problem, prostrates and distance from the loos but, being on a reserve, I don't understand why they go in sight of the hides. Obviously NABWALT, i won't see the blokes who are discreet and if women do it we'd be less visible because we're crouching 🤔

So they could choose to jump off it, couldn’t they. Entirely their choice.

I agree about prostate issues. Our twitchers are more mature. Mind you my grandsons have bladders the size of gnats. Especially if it's a cold day

lcakethereforeIam · 16/01/2026 14:38

My fella too. I don't know how the guardsmen outside Buck House manage to stand a watch.

PassTheHanky · 16/01/2026 18:07

Key points from RSPB's replies to me were:

  • "Events organised by the RSPB and advertised as for women or ‘women-only’ are open to anybody who identifies as a woman;
  • We also welcome non-binary people who feel comfortable in a women-only space;
  • We are aware of the Supreme Court ruling and like many organisations, we are awaiting the updated Code of Practice and formal guidance from the Equality and Human Rights Commission;
  • Once published, we will take time to review the Code and formal guidance carefully, ensuring we fully understand its implications for our charitable activities".

So they are deliberately choosing to stick with Trans ideology and they plan to drag it out as long as they can.

However the birds don't need to suffer if you give your money to another wildlife charity which isn't ideologically captured.

mopu · 16/01/2026 18:09

jesus, what a cop out response. They need to hurry the fuck up with the formal guidance so these apologists are dragged kicking and screaming into common sense land.

Hmm, I just had a look at where that is taking place - Sandy, Beds (just off the A1). Next Tuesday 10am - midday.

That's not too far away from us at all. Now that the WI thing is over I wonder if I should see if my DH is interested in taking up birding?

It's in the morning as well so he can join in before he goes to work!

I'm happy to help out with a pair of binoculars if it helps 😊

Edited

It doesn’t take away from the work they do to protect wildlife..which is the point of giving them money. It’s not like they’re using that money to raise money for trans rights. It’s got nothing to do with their work. The only ones who suffer are the birds. If the reason they’re pro-trans is because their director is non-binary, like a PP said, then they won’t change their position no matter how much support they lose. Withdrawing support for a good cause over this is pointless and petty.

But why should women support a sexist misogynistic organisation? And surely it won’t matter if lots of women withdraw their support, they’ll have all the donations from their trans members that they’re pandering to? So it’ll all work out even won’t it?

If we adopt the #BeKind narrative then we will never get anywhere.

Absolutely. We are always saying on this board "follow the money". We need to make organisations feel the wrath of the (departed) female-pound.
