The Bluestocking Boxing Day sale: 1 gerbil for the price of 2

Previous thread:

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/5457910-the-bluestocking-next-stop-christmas

As the patrons, and gerbils, of The Bluestocking Pub sleep off their Christmas Day food and alcohol intake the capybaras will be getting paid double time to move the pub and contents to the new thread overnight.

All welcome, as long as you are a woman. The men have their own pub The Staunch Ally. It's just down the road, then turn left at the bridge.

You don't have to be mad to drink here but it most definitely helps.

Leave the real world behind and join us in the mayhem and surreal life of a pub staffed by gerbils. Where the food is always exactly what you ordered and the drinks don't give you a hangover the next day!

I’ve started sorting out my desk, in the process unearthing some quite nice notebooks, some acquired on rare trips to one of the offices, another sent one Xmas. They’re either empty or else have a page or two of notes taken during the trip.

um, can someone explain to me wtf you actually do with all these notebooks you covet?Confused

Would it be... could it be...

Rhodia Box No 09?

The very same! The pencils write so nicely. They're slightly slanted, not round tipped.

I should have thought of that before I made the shower every day resolution!

Me? A bad influence? As if!

You know they do them in different colours as well?

Different colours? Wow!

My mistake, Boily. Apologies. Interestingly, even though I'm a voracious reader, I never seem to dream about reading. Most of my dreams resemble extremely confused action movies.

I was actually thinking about you talking in dreams and realised there is very little, if any, talking in my dreams, just me thinking.

I do know that I spend a lot of dream time trying to find a toilet that works/has a seat/isn't blocked/ has a door on the stall/ has loo roll/ doesn't involve having to walk through water pouring from the ceiling to get to it. At some point I usually realise I'm dreaming and really really need to wake up for a pee!

@RandomHypatia you won't be sorry when Mr Amazon delivers.

@ErrolTheDragon you just enjoy them! Although I've started one to keep as my to do list. The long thin one, if anybody was wondering. Bloc No 8.

I used to sometimes wake up listening to beautiful music, which I could never remember afterwards. Odd, as I am not musical at all.

I've not had a musical dream for a while, and I haven't had a lucid dream for decades. I only ever had about 3. They were so much fun.

There is an aboriginal culture in Malaysia where everyone sits around in the morning discussing their dreams. People school themselves to dream about problems they have, and to seek the answers in the dream.

Boily top tip for showering if the upstairs is cold: have a blazing hot shower just before bed. Works for me, anyway.

I shall store that for tomorrow evening. I reckon if i tweak the time the heating switches off, I could combine shower and then straight into bed to watch crap on my tablet.

Unfortunately it wasn't an option this evening as it was too early and the cats had the bed booked for the early evening slot.

I keep dreaming about getting into really hot baths. Then I wake up and realise it's a hot flush. Although at the moment I'm also getting pregnancy related dreams. If my subconscious is trying to tell me this is my last chance, it obviously doesn't know me very well!

You're doing better than me. A neighbour brought round a very nice cake today, and I'm the only one in the family who likes it. I'm just going to have to watch everything else I eat that much more closely.

Slice it up and freeze the slices. Oh. Never mind I've just seen you can't.

You'll just have to eat cake and nothing else then.

Although having had some of it tonight, while it is very nice indeed, I might manage to resist the rest.

Look at them lovingly. Pet the furry ones, and move the velcro dinosaurs around on the dinosaurs one.

They once mistakenly priced the boxes of 25 pencils for £1.40 per box. I now have a box in just about every room!

I'll add that I have forbidden myself from buying any more notebooks/notepads/pencils until what I have fits in one drawer shelf. Cupboard.

On the subject of dreams, I have dreamt in other languages but not for a long time. I have, however, retained the ability to sing with the voice of an angel in my dreams. Unfortunately that doesn't carry over into actual life.

Anyone buying that square flexitub from amazon is being robbed! Mine cost £4.

...!...

Velcro dinosaurs?

Magpiecomplex · 03/01/2026 20:47

Ok, the sudden rush of sugar to the brain has triggered a plan. I'm going to attempt to freeze the rest of the cake, on the basis that that stops it giving me the side-eye for the moment. Then if it successfully defrosts, I can have little bits when I fancy, and if it doesn't, then the decision has been made for me.

lcakethereforeIam · 03/01/2026 20:53

Don't forget to slice it before you freeze it.

Good luck.

There's something quite surreal about a cake advising me to attack another cake with a knife! 😂
