Previous thread:

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/5457910-the-bluestocking-next-stop-christmas

As the patrons, and gerbils, of The Bluestocking Pub sleep off their Christmas Day food and alcohol intake the capybaras will be getting paid double time to move the pub and contents to the new thread overnight.

All welcome, as long as you are a woman. The men have their own pub The Staunch Ally. It's just down the road, then turn left at the bridge.

You don't have to be mad to drink here but it most definitely helps.

Leave the real world behind and join us in the mayhem and surreal life of a pub staffed by gerbils. Where the food is always exactly what you ordered and the drinks don't give you a hangover the next day!

😂 I'm afraid it might be a let-down! It was the Rhodia stationery set linked to a day or two ago! The pencils are lovely and so are the notebooks, all tucked in a little box.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 03/01/2026 18:19

... or it could be those new microchips I'm trying out.

Hey! We have a really nice shed at the Bluey! Who knew?

I'm currently undecided. Do I let my shower every day new year resolution fail on 3rd January, or do I get off my arse whilst the bathroom is still warm and go have a shower and make the decision to fail tomorrow instead?

Edited

I've showered. I suspect tomorrow will be the day I fail.

Fuck it's cold upstairs this evening!

It's getting off the arse time Boily. Then if you manage to have a shower tomorrow too, you've at least extended the time before you fail. You could spend the whole year thinking "shower today, not sure if I can be bothered tomorrow"

That's kind of my thinking! Procrastinate about the day I fail rather than procrastinate about the actual shower. Still procrastinating so that part of my brain is happy and Ive had a shower. So win win!

And surely it's gets easier as we move into spring!

If you're not having a very active day then surely a wash with a flannel is fine? As long as you have a proper shower at least every other day.

I ordered 2 Rhodia sets off Amazon yesterday - they'd been in my basket several days and I'd been trying to resist. You're a bad influence @Boiledbeetle

You're doing better than me. A neighbour brought round a very nice cake today, and I'm the only one in the family who likes it. I'm just going to have to watch everything else I eat that much more closely.

Does it freeze? If so slice it into modest pieces and then you don’t need to wolf it before it goes stale. Or do people ever take cakes into work in your place?

Does it work if you watch what you eat very carefully - while you eat it? Only, I'm watching the last of the Lindt chocolate truffles at the moment....

It won't freeze, and it includes nuts - one of my colleagues carries an EpiPen for nut allergies. Ah well. Temporary blip.

I love stationery, and I am having to restrain myself from buying more notebooks. I have several that I haven’t written in - but they are very lovely and I don’t want to start them and risk messing them up.

I have seen a journal idea on FB, where someone cut inch squares a
of any paper that she saw and liked during the year, and glued them all into a notebook. I think I could do that. Or it could be another craft that I think about doing, but don’t actually do.

SionnachRuadh · 03/01/2026 19:32

Sometimes in my dreams I hear complex music, and even dance to it, and I don't dance at all IRL nor do I remember the music when I wake.

Also, I sometimes dream that I'm speaking Gaelic much more fluently than I actually can.

Also also, I have a playlist that's just Yello and Amanda Lear. Sometimes I fall asleep listening to it and have really weird dreams.

EdithStourton · 03/01/2026 19:39

I used to sometimes wake up listening to beautiful music, which I could never remember afterwards. Odd, as I am not musical at all.

I've not had a musical dream for a while, and I haven't had a lucid dream for decades. I only ever had about 3. They were so much fun.

There is an aboriginal culture in Malaysia where everyone sits around in the morning discussing their dreams. People school themselves to dream about problems they have, and to seek the answers in the dream.

Boily top tip for showering if the upstairs is cold: have a blazing hot shower just before bed. Works for me, anyway.

AuntieMsDamsonCrumble · 03/01/2026 19:42

I don't tend to dream about music, but I do have it running through my head most of the time while I'm awake. Anything from classical & opera, to pop and rock. Yesterday, I woke up singing "Dear Lord and Father of Mankind". I don't practice any religion these days and it must be at least 30 years since I last sang that hymn, but I remembered all the words and verses, from my CofE school choir days. I can also recall whole tracts of Shakespeare. What a strange thing the human brain is.

I hope it does.

I thought we didn't have too much Christmas food left over, only to have some spare pastry after making a flan which had to be used with the last of the mincemeat, obvs, and then a friend came to visit bearing an enormous box of chocolates.

DH is gallantly doing his best with the chocolates, but he just doesn't have my stamina in that department.

ErrolTheDragon · 03/01/2026 19:43

I sometimes have had dreams where something is going wrong in an airport. The last time it happened I didn’t have my passport or the right visa or something, but fortunately realised it was a dream, so I just waved something at the official like Dr Who does and that worked fine.

You’ve just made me recall the first two verses, more or less.

I was on about written words in dreams. Not spoken words. The article had said when you read words in dreams they don't make sense. But all the words I could see in my dream were perfectly spelt.

My mistake, Boily. Apologies. Interestingly, even though I'm a voracious reader, I never seem to dream about reading. Most of my dreams resemble extremely confused action movies.

Well, I've put it out of its misery, but have resolved not to buy any more chocolate until Easter! If I can't see it, I can resist it.

I should have thought of that before I made the shower every day resolution!

Me? A bad influence? As if!

You know they do them in different colours as well?
