Previous thread:

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/5457910-the-bluestocking-next-stop-christmas

As the patrons, and gerbils, of The Bluestocking Pub sleep off their Christmas Day food and alcohol intake the capybaras will be getting paid double time to move the pub and contents to the new thread overnight.

All welcome, as long as you are a woman. The men have their own pub The Staunch Ally. It's just down the road, then turn left at the bridge.

You don't have to be mad to drink here but it most definitely helps.

Leave the real world behind and join us in the mayhem and surreal life of a pub staffed by gerbils. Where the food is always exactly what you ordered and the drinks don't give you a hangover the next day!

Just perusing my bookshelves for potential candidates to leave the house. Whilst the kettle boiled.

I'm currently in two minds about a book called inconsequential dilemmas which contains 45 flowcharts.

I'll put it back on the shelf for a while whilst I think about it.

Cat yoga is definitely going tomorrow though! As the bloody cat can't read and hates exercise.

I feel like I could be friends with your cat.

Probably not but you never know………

I was going to say one for each hand, but then remembered it's you, Boily. Possibly you actually need more copies.

AsWithGladys · 31/12/2025 21:52

I don’t think you can get rid of a book which contains lovely graph paper, Boily. Squared paper is one of my favourite things. When I was young and still studying it was difficult to find here. My parents used to holiday in France before going abroad was popular, and always brought me home a packet or two of it.

I have observed that there are scientists in The Bluestocking, so on a slightly related theme I offer you something I copied from somewhere online years ago.

I don’t quite understand this, Hedgie.
I once had a quite big house but it was nearly terraced

Do you mean that it was an end-terrace, like mine is? There’s only a walkway round the side, though, no room for a car to get past. The house we’re joined onto can only reach their garden by going through their house.

I like the story about your plumber. 😀

Boiledbeetle · 31/12/2025 22:05

@AsWithGladys one can never have too much squared paper.

I can only admit this here in The Bluestocking, but I have a bathroom with two bins in it, one for recycling and the other for landfill.

AsWithGladys · 31/12/2025 22:15

Thank you for the drawing, Hedgie, although I’m sure there’d be no flaming of our beloved fellow Bluestockingers here.

I can’t quite read the writing at the bottom of the page. It can’t say ‘Rent Boy’, can it?

Jealous …
Is that two sizes of exercise book and a smart box of single sheets?

At the last school I taught in the Maths department issued exercise books with squared paper and purple covers. Young people nowadays, don’t know they are born…

EdithStourton · 31/12/2025 22:30

I won't be online at midnight (and have barely been on line for the last day or do) so, in advance,

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

Thanks for the fireworks, I glimpsed them in the distance.

AuntieMsDamsonCrumble · 31/12/2025 22:35

Just passing through on my way home from the elders. I don't think I will make it to midnight so I will just wish all the Bluestockingers a Very Happy New Year, in whatever form is appropriate to each.

I've got all sizes and types. I don't discriminate, but do love Rhodia.

However you can still get cheaper school ones:

why stick at squared paper though?
if you’ve got a printer ….

I used to love the dotted ones. Saved having to do your own every game of squares.

While I would have loved to have celebrated New Year in the Bluestocking, IRL I am in the local with DH and DD as she has turned 18. It is absolutely heaving. Who knew that 'I am sailing' is the world's most popular karaoke? Why are mini toad in the hole and halloumi wrapped in bacon so fucking edible? I may need a very large breakfast tomorrow but, in the meantime, Hoots a Way Heigh. Whatever that means.

To add to my previous post. If you like squared paper and fancy some various sizes smaller pads with perforated tear off pages, some matching pencils and a box in the shape of a notebook the rhodia box is currently on offer at the bargain price of £10.20. And yes I have a black one and orange one and a white one! (And let's not get into the many coloured lined version boxes I also have)

About to head to bed, but wanted first to wish all Stockingers a very happy New Year. See you in 2026!

Boiledbeetle · 31/12/2025 23:25

I'm off to bed along with everyone else, I'm not a new year celebration beetle.

But I arranged for some fireworks to say goodnight with.

Unfortunately the gerbils had a mishap, apparently, with the wording!

Happy New Year to all at the Bluestocking.

See you all next year!
