Previous thread:

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/5457910-the-bluestocking-next-stop-christmas

As the patrons, and gerbils, of The Bluestocking Pub sleep off their Christmas Day food and alcohol intake the capybaras will be getting paid double time to move the pub and contents to the new thread overnight.

All welcome, as long as you are a woman. The men have their own pub The Staunch Ally. It's just down the road, then turn left at the bridge.

You don't have to be mad to drink here but it most definitely helps.

Leave the real world behind and join us in the mayhem and surreal life of a pub staffed by gerbils. Where the food is always exactly what you ordered and the drinks don't give you a hangover the next day!

The gerbils, Balrog and Cordite have worked very hard on this.

Wonderful fireworks!

FuzzyPuffling · 31/12/2025 19:40

No puffin fireworks?
Poor neglected little puffins. Quiet, burrow-loving, lifetime- mating, egg- laying inoffensive little birds.

WAAAAAAAAH!
Does major puffin-sulk.

The rest of the fireworks were pretty good though. 😁

Puffin firework got hidden behind cake firework, I'm afraid.

Don't worry, I'll have eaten through the cake very soon.

I've enjoyed my day of doing absolutely fuck all along with two snoozes.

Now comes the important bit of the evening... deciding the exact terms of 2026's version of my daily task year 2.

Tempted as I am too add in get up and have a shower EVERY day I suspect that would mean not making it past the first day!

Goodness me, Boily, how can you call yourself a Mumsnetter if you don't have six showers a day, and seven on Sunday?!

And I have a bin AND a loo brush in my bathroom.

I'm ashamed of myself to be honest!

Or alternatively a stand-up flannel wash and a bath monthly whether you need it or not. One or t’other.

ErrolTheDragon · 31/12/2025 20:21

Anyway, jolly good fireworks Magpie.

I own two loo brushes. One for each loo. Can you bear to speak to me ever again?

RandomHypatia · 31/12/2025 20:25

Just got my son to sleep. MrRandom and I are debating whether to stay up later then 10 given we've both got a cold and are already tired. We're in Scotland so there will definitely be fireworks going off in a few places round town, but if I'm in a deep enough sleep they might not wake me.

I'm sorry to have missed the fireworks here - I was reading Jack and the Beanstalk and then the three Billie goats gruff. I was in the mood for Aladdin, but the boy refused. ☹️ It's been Jack and the Beanstalk every sodding night for about 3 weeks. Fortunately he usually wants different books during the day. I am very easily bored and definitely underestimated the tedium of having to read the same book at least once a day for weeks at a time. And having to pretend I'm not bored while doing it!

It's been a lovely crisp day - perfect for new years eve. We went for a walk in a park with lots of peacocks this morning and played games all afternoon. I wish I could have another week off work - does the Bluey have a time machine?

Is there any hot chocolate left or did it all go during the fireworks display? Can I have some vodka in it too?

Ah, the washing habits of my 70s youth.

I blame the cats personally. Without them I'd wake up , get up to go the loo and get straight in the shower before I had chance to reconsider. But the bloody cats insist on only, grudgingly, allowing me to go for a pee. Then I have to descend into the freezing kitchen to feed them, so I have to stick a few more layers of clothing over my pjs. Once in the kitchen the kettle insists I make a drink. Once sat down with my drink the joint I pre rolled the night before tempts me to smoke it. And with that all chance of a shower has gone and I think "tomorrow. I'll have a shower tomorrow"

I'll be your friend, we can bitch about the non loo brush owners behind their backs in voices loud enough for them to hear.

<Preens> I actually own four different loo brushes for just the one toilet. One of which I have 100 new heads for. (And this sort of hoarding is why I have spent a year trying to sort out the mountains of 'stuff')

No, mine is not disgusting at all, but the head keeps falling off. It is the Anne Boleyn of loo brushes.

That must make cleaning the toilet incredibly satisfying.
