The Bluestocking Boxing Day sale: 1 gerbil for the price of 2

Previous thread:

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/5457910-the-bluestocking-next-stop-christmas

As the patrons, and gerbils, of The Bluestocking Pub sleep off their Christmas Day food and alcohol intake the capybaras will be getting paid double time to move the pub and contents to the new thread overnight.

All welcome, as long as you are a woman. The men have their own pub The Staunch Ally. It's just down the road, then turn left at the bridge.

You don't have to be mad to drink here but it most definitely helps.

Leave the real world behind and join us in the mayhem and surreal life of a pub staffed by gerbils. Where the food is always exactly what you ordered and the drinks don't give you a hangover the next day!

Hurrah for the amazing @Boiledbeetle! I am thinking about decluttering - that’s almost the same as doing it, right? 😂

Swashbuckled · 31/12/2025 13:04

Heartbreaking news, Hedgy. 💙

Amazeballs, Boiley!
Nightmare, Fuzzy…

Sorry for brevity; am working today.

Happy NYE. x

MyrtleLion · 31/12/2025 15:13

What a wonderful achievement @Boiledbeetle ! I am so very impressed and very pleased for you xx

I am knitting a cowl for Monday because it will be cold and the Walrus gave me some (12 x 100g balls) beautiful burgundy DK yarn for Christmas. It's very quick - 110 stitches in the round, Purl x 3 rows, Knit x 9 rows, repeat the 12 row sequence until it measures 25cm from cast-on, Purl another 3 rows, then cast-off loosely in purl.

I have been asked to conduct a funeral on Tuesday. I may have mentioned this earlier. The deceased wife's funeral was my first in 2016 and he said he wanted me to do his when he died. He died on 5 December, aged 91. I stopped being a celebrant in 2019 but they asked for me by name, so I agreed. I think it was a bit foolish because I've been so ill (though I'm improving with the steroids). Anyway,
I have now written it and just need to conduct it.

Happy New Year's Eve, everyone! I take it the gerbils are very excited about tonight's party. I found them setting up.

As Maud is away at K&P's, Glühwein is in charge...

I've been channeling Boily and have just spent an hour sorting out my summer clothes for storage in the loft, to make space for the winter clothes.
I must remember that as I start losing weight, I will be fitting back into clothes I already own. I do NOT need to buy new clothes!

lcakethereforeIam · 31/12/2025 16:35

I was just in John Lewis, sprog was hoping to try a coat for size before ordering it from somewhere else. There was a pink women's pullover, nothing special, similar ones sold in all the supermarkets. It was a brand, the polo player one, and it was £189!! I was thrilled to get a jumper on Saturday from Tesco, it was Christmassy-ish, hence a big discount, but I think it could pass for everyday, for £6.30. Horses for courses I suppose.

I believe Balrog is helping with fireworks tonight with Galadriel and Gelignite. Gladrags is organising the music.

Britinme · 31/12/2025 16:35

Wow Boily - I am lost in admiration!

And thanks so much, Stockingers, for introducing me to The Roches - how have I managed all these years without coming across their music?

lcakethereforeIam · 31/12/2025 16:37

I hope I haven't misunderstood and it's not gelignite (small g).

Well they should ensure the party goes with a bang…
Uh oh…Gunpowder (quite rightly) says that the fireworks are her forte and are we really sure we trust Gelignite to behave?

Britinme · 31/12/2025 16:44

You could always rope in Grenadea to help.

Magpiecomplex · 31/12/2025 16:45

Will you be helping too, @ErrolTheDragon?

Magpiecomplex · 31/12/2025 16:46

And how about Cordite the capybara?

ErrolTheDragon · 31/12/2025 16:49

Magpiecomplex · 31/12/2025 16:45

Will you be helping too, @ErrolTheDragon?

Well…you might think that a dragon with a couple of chemistry degrees would be helpful but as we intend to crack open my retirement/birthday bottle of bubbly this evening and I have absolutely no head for alcohol, it might not be such a good idea. Grin

Magpiecomplex · 31/12/2025 17:26

A tipsy dragon might be a bit of a H&S nightmare!
I don't have your natural advantages, and I only have the one chemistry degree, but I will be sober, so that probably makes me the on-call fireworks consultant tonight.

HartSeven · 31/12/2025 18:13

Popping in to wish all the regulars and irregulars a happy new year and to get a drink. This is such a welcome oasis of sanity! Mine's either a dry martini or a lesbian negroni, preferably bucket sized. See you on the other side.

Magpiecomplex · 31/12/2025 18:16

Hello @HartSeven! Are you quite sure you're in the right place? Accusing us of sanity is not the usual thing!
Either way, the bar gerbils are all on duty tonight so your drink will arrive shortly.

Hello HartSeven, welcome to the Bluestocking, you have obviously already learnt that you can have anything you want, in industrial quantities, and being magic, it won't cause any hangovers 😄 You'll fit right in, if you think this is sanity😁

... a lesbian negroni?? If the bar gerbils know what that is, they've been keeping very quiet about it, so you may have to talk them through it.
And then talk me through it, cos it sounds intriguing!

ErrolTheDragon · 31/12/2025 18:22

Thank you @HartSeven! Pull up a comfy chair and your drinks (the gerbils don’t do ‘or’).

It’s like Wonko the Sane’s home, Outside of the Asylum.

Magpiecomplex · 31/12/2025 18:46

Public service announcement.

Any regulars who are, or live with, small animals who may find a fireworks display distressing, please visit Gubernatrix to collect your ear defenders. I've seen the set-up. You have been warned.

FuzzyPuffling · 31/12/2025 18:53

Still got my ear defenders from Gubbins triangle part in the Christmas concert.

But I do love little Gubbins' enthuiasm.

Magpiecomplex · 31/12/2025 18:57

Fireworks display will be at 7.30. Champagne and mulled wine will be available throughout, and the hot chocolate bowser is being filled as we speak. The mulled wine has been put in one of the auxiliary back-up gravy bowsers but they've promised me that the triplets Glenda, Glenda and Glenda gave it a good scrub first.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 31/12/2025 19:00

Sanity? I have never been so insulted! 😉😂

Welcome, @HartSeven.

I don’t think I will make it to midnight - I am too old and knackered - so I will wish everyone a very happy, healthy and blessed 2026.

HartSeven · 31/12/2025 19:10

There’s an actual instructional video thoughtfully provided by Julie Bindel. I’ve not tried making one myself, my skills are limited to sticking cocktail sticks in olives.

SionnachRuadh · 31/12/2025 19:14

I'm pretty knackered thanks to (a) not being able to shake the lurgy and (b) being inspired by Boily to do some redding up, though not getting very far because of (a)...

...unlikely I'll make it to midnight, so happy new year everyone.

Magpiecomplex · 31/12/2025 19:29

Ready everyone? All got your drinks?
