The Bluestocking Boxing Day sale: 1 gerbil for the price of 2

Previous thread:

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/5457910-the-bluestocking-next-stop-christmas

As the patrons, and gerbils, of The Bluestocking Pub sleep off their Christmas Day food and alcohol intake the capybaras will be getting paid double time to move the pub and contents to the new thread overnight.

All welcome, as long as you are a woman. The men have their own pub The Staunch Ally. It's just down the road, then turn left at the bridge.

You don't have to be mad to drink here but it most definitely helps.

Leave the real world behind and join us in the mayhem and surreal life of a pub staffed by gerbils. Where the food is always exactly what you ordered and the drinks don't give you a hangover the next day!

I'm off to my bed. I'll take Gubbins with me so she stops banging that bloody triangle.

Balrog will keep the fire going overnight.

Bless her she's very useful.

Ah good, a nice new venue is just what we needed. I don’t think anyone wanted to clear up after Christmas in the old place tbh.

Britinme · 26/12/2025 02:11

Could we have the gerbils sent across the Atlantic to clean up my kitchen floor please - sundry grandchildren plus their parents and their uncle, aunt, cousins and other grandfather trod wet snow and grit all across it. Actually, cancel that flight - I can hear that DH is attending to it as I speak, bless him.

FuzzyPuffling · 26/12/2025 08:09

<Snoozes way into new thread>
Happy Boxing Day.
May we have crumpets for breakfast please gerbils?

AuntieMsDamsonCrumble · 26/12/2025 09:54

Ooh, a shiny new thread, thanks Boily.
I think I'd like a large glass of orange juice, with a flat white coffee and croissant to start the day, please gerbils.

Actually I started the day a while ago. The Christmas soup is on in the slow cooker and once I've had breakfast, I'll be going for a bracing (understatement!) walk along the seafront.

StarryCat · 26/12/2025 10:20

I'm here! It usually takes me a day or two to catch up but I'm already here. I don't need any breakfast - still full of turkey and Christmas chocs (not eaten together!) and I only just woke up, which is cutting it fine as our boxing day visitors are arriving in an hour and I still need to make their beds up.

Boiledbeetle · 26/12/2025 10:42

Bugger.

I left the lights on at the last thread.

I'm not entirely sure the pub was completely empty, but I'm sure the capybaras will switch them off once they've finished.

EdithStourton · 26/12/2025 10:52

<enters coughing and wheezing>
I'll just go and hide in a well-ventilated (but warm) corner with a pint of mulled wine (in a flask, so it stays warm).

The bracing walk I was looking forward to is being enjoyed by everyone else (except one who is still asleep, God knows how much was drunk yesterday). Fire lit and Edith settled in for a peaceful zone-out.

Magpiecomplex · 26/12/2025 10:58

Morning all. Thanks for the new thread Boily, I made sure the lights were off before I stepped through the portal in Android's old lab.
Hot chocolate and a croissant please, bar gerbil.

lcakethereforeIam · 26/12/2025 11:17

Could I have a sausage sarnie, nasty white sliced, too much butter and some brown sauce? Awesome, thanks. My usual pot of tea.

I sometimes fear the universe won't suffer a heat death. Instead, one day, way in the future, it'll become entirely equal parts Bluestockings, those sculptures that towns and cities make trails of (cows, bears, baby elephants, Shawn the sheep, frogs, and so on), and commas.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 26/12/2025 11:19

Good morning - and what a lovely, shiny new thread - thank you, @Boiledbeetle. The last of the capybaras waited until I woke up, and fuelled me with plenty of coffee, so now I can use long words and complex sentences (always difficult sans caffeine).

We are having a quiet day here - it is lovely and sunny at the moment, so if that holds out, dh will take the dogs out for a long walk later on. Ds2 and his lovely gf may go with them, but dh has worn them out, taking them up hill and down dale over the past few days, so they may decide not to go!

Very deep, Cake. You should send it to Reader's Digest, they have a page for people like you.

Boiledbeetle · 26/12/2025 11:26

Apologies for the lateness but the gerbils had a lie in. They can't cope with individual orders this morning so are putting out a late breakfast buffet.

Glenda finished off a bottle of gin on her own last night and is feeling very fragile, so if you could whisper when she's around that would be great.

Forgot the Reader's Digest! They'll be a few copies of that too and old editions of the People's Friend. Although I'm not sure there's such a thing as a new edition of the People's Friend.

Eta love the slippers Beetle. I don't think she heard me.

Love the slippers Beetle!

@FuzzyPuffling and @AuntieMsDamsonCrumble sorry for the delay.

Gesundheit has nipped over to the Staunch Ally to pick up crumpets and croissants for those not wanting the English breakfast option.

Although I think it's more to do with the fact that Gavin is on the bar this morning rather than her wanting to be helpful.

OP posts:
lcakethereforeIam · 26/12/2025 11:47

Gavin is a bit of a hunk, for a gerbil. Gesundheit is only gerbil.

Apparently, last Christmas he gave her his heart but it was the wrong size so she exchanged it for store credit.

FuzzyPuffling · 26/12/2025 11:50

I am very pleased to see Gesundheit and Gavin getting along so well.
Spring Gerbil Wedding perhaps?

And thanks for the crumpets.

Anyone else getting echoes of Brambly Hedge from this picture?

MarieDeGournay · 26/12/2025 12:21

Love the heeland coo slippers, Boily! what are they called? Do heeland coo slippers have their own taxonomy?
[Woley, it took a lot of caffeine for me to be able to use a word like 'taxonomy'! and on both occasions I've typed taxomony. 🙄

You've gone all gnomic, Cake. I think you are turning into a very large iced fortune cookie...😄

Sending over the best.

Be warned though, they've been watching a lot of black and white American tv from the 50s and 60s.

It should be fine unless they start giving the man of the house withering looks and start nose twitching.

We are actually off to another party today, despite this not being officially a holiday over here. In fact I have a haircut booked for 11am so I’ll be poshed up and glam before we go. DIL’s grandma asked for a party today- she’s 87 and possibly wondering how many Christmases she has left as her health isn’t great - and we count as family these days since they all love my DS, so we were invited. Pizzas are being ordered and I am taking some leftover desserts from yesterday (as I think others will be doing if, like me, they made far too much) so no massive prep involved, and I expect to have a good time. They’ve booked the Legion Hall not far from us, which isn’t actually that big but has a nice kitchen, and I think there will be maybe 25 or so of us. Sadly there are no gerbils to wait on us so I guess we’ll have to do it ourselves.

StellaAndCrow · 26/12/2025 13:03

Happy Foxing Day everyone! And thank you for being here over the year to share the madness.

MarieDeGournay · 26/12/2025 13:56

Stella AND Crow - that's two Bluestockingers for the price of one😃
There's plenty of madness to go around, so you're very welcome to share it! anytime!
