Robin Ince quits working for the BBC over his support for men in dresses and terrorists

Shame really he’s a nice guy, a huge bibliophile, met him a few times at book signings, the last live show of his I saw he did shoehorn in “and of course trans women are real women” or some such nonsense.

guessing the infinite monkey cage is cancelled now, that was in my top five podcasts.

can’t do a popular science show and think women can have a penis though. Wonder what Brian thinks?

the video of his love resignation , presumably at the end of a monkey cage recording, is here
https://www.reddit.com/r/transgenderUK/comments/1plg02g/bbc_presenter_robert_ince_claims_he_has_been/

notably he doesn’t say how men in dresses are being treated badly. Everyone has a blind spot.

It's not the PJ Harvey. This is from their profile.

I'm not Polly Jean But I am an author of SFF novels, even if I happen to be unpublished so far. I'm also autistic, so any help on the ol' networking front for someone who can't do anything else but write engaging character-based stories is appreciated.

Phew!

Ince has confirmed the blind item in Popbitch is about him and posted on Bluesky.

As Popbitch resurrected the rumour from the anti trans that I treated women badly on Monkey Cage, I’m sharing what happened - this is from Normally Weird & Weirdly Normal - it was actually far worse for me than this version but I wanted to save other people from the glare and blame
https://bsky.app/profile/robinince.bsky.social/post/3meovvqzwas26

And quote posted that post a day later, adding this:
Later on I found out who gaslit me with the “we think you have mental health” issues and it did not surprise me - all those years of making monkey cage and sad to see who forgot all that and was ready with silence or worse

Speaking as a late-diagnosed holder of not one but two ND labels, I extend precisely zero "camaraderie" or comradely solidarity to Ince.
Neurodivergence is not a get-out-of-jail-free card to have full confidence in behaving like an arse, it's a reminder that in society we cannot be self-indulgent &/ or solipsistic without coming off as arses.

cramptramp · 15/02/2026 20:12

Of course he’s now ‘neurodivergent’. What a surprise 🙄🙄

SidewaysOtter · 15/02/2026 22:04

drspouse · 15/02/2026 11:37

Greg Wallace anyone?

That’s exactly who I thought of. Mr “I couldn’t wear pants because I’m neurodivergent so that why I showed women my cock”.

Same old, same old 🙄

sandgreen · 16/02/2026 09:46

Just catching up with Popbitch and came right here! The man is completely insufferable and seems only to be getting worse. He’s over-egging this ‘new confidence, real me, people can’t handle it’ schtick to the point he’s sounding unhinged.

Who would willingly out themselves from a silly gossip column just to go on another self-pitying, self-obsessed rant (that completely ignores the issues raised)? He doesn’t need to dignify any of it with a response, but his ego can’t resist.

Worth it though for that unintentionally hilarious paragraph at the end of the screenshot of his book, insisting his revival of a show where he punches a melon to bits on stage (titled MELONS!) was a sign he was doing much better.

Lalgarh · 16/02/2026 09:52

There might be another poem coming

Bertiebiscuit · 16/02/2026 10:17

And let's not forget that male "comedians" have always earned their livings by being nasty about women. It comes so easily to these lazy misogynists to punch down in women for cheap laughs. I avoid male comedians (&a significant number of female ones) I'm oddly allergic to spending time and money to be insulted.

Bertiebiscuit · 16/02/2026 10:21

Love this! Accurately describes most celebrities these days, yet their every fart gets quoted by journalists who pretend these people are talented /interesting.

sandgreen · 16/02/2026 12:28

Also worth considering is his dismissal of it all as an ‘anti trans rumour’. If anything, a mention in Popbitch gives the story more weight as it is much more likely to have come from an industry source or sources who may have experienced his behaviour first hand. It’s Ince’s appalling arrogance they’re having a pop at here, not anyone’s politics.

ConstanzeMozart · 16/02/2026 13:21

This is a very annoying question, but I can't divine the answer from this thread: why exactly did he leave the Beeb? (and/or did he leave or was he pushed?)

Lalgarh · 16/02/2026 13:24

They likely didn't renew his contract.

But you know he's a defender of oppressed people's so it was because of that really.

SionnachRuadh · 16/02/2026 17:40

I mean I don't want to be unkind to Robin Ince, but he never did anything as entertaining as the business about the buttery biscuit base

ArabellaSaurus · 16/02/2026 17:54

I've not heard Swede Mason in years!

sandgreen · 16/02/2026 19:34

His response to the Gregg Wallace retort is just bizarre, but telling. Those awful wimmin out to blacken his name! It’s not easy being Robin. He makes himself look worse with every utterance.

As everyone says, men are afraid women will laugh at them. Women are afraid men will kill them.

There is a certain sub section (and I’m using the word “sub” advisedly) of men who see themselves as the hard-done-by victim every time their thin skin is so much as lightly bruised.

Lalgarh · 16/02/2026 22:49

I'm assuming these are also the sub category who see themselves as Really Nice Guys too

Definitely.

Left Wing Saints and Martyrs - a very hard group of men to deal with on any basis because they're convinced of their righteous correctness in every situation and also fully prepared to 'discuss' it with you at length until they wear you down 🙄

Lalgarh · 16/02/2026 17:34

Crikey

bluesky is even weirder than X. Who knew?

Cordeliasdemonbabies · 12/03/2026 12:20

Poor Robin. So boring even his diss thread has been distracted by philosophical discussions of deism and ontology.

Looks like he may have deleted his bluesky? Cosmic Shambles seems to still be up but is more like a marketing page and doesn't have any personal posts.

BeSpoonyTurtle · 12/03/2026 18:12

Good riddance. Ince is insufferable.

Other women of science are available. Although you would be forgiven for thinking otherwise!!!

BlueEyedBogWitch · 13/03/2026 08:18

This is such great news. He bloody ruined TIMC for me. He was like your mate’s annoying sixth form brother who thought being able to quote Monty Python and go slightly too far taking the piss out of people made him ‘a character’. Cunt.
