Robin Ince quits working for the BBC over his support for men in dresses and terrorists

Shame really he’s a nice guy, a huge bibliophile, met him a few times at book signings, the last live show of his I saw he did shoehorn in “and of course trans women are real women” or some such nonsense.

guessing the infinite monkey cage is cancelled now, that was in my top five podcasts.

can’t do a popular science show and think women can have a penis though. Wonder what Brian thinks?

the video of his love resignation , presumably at the end of a monkey cage recording, is here
https://www.reddit.com/r/transgenderUK/comments/1plg02g/bbc_presenter_robert_ince_claims_he_has_been/

notably he doesn’t say how men in dresses are being treated badly. Everyone has a blind spot.

I can only imagine and sympathise.

Perhaps the show would benefit from a woman of science as the presenter?
Suggestions?

God, how self-indulgent, self-important and woe is me!

Work for the BBC, adhere to its principles on impartiality, dont say things in or out of work that could be construed as supporting one side of any debate. It’s not hard.

nettie434 · 13/12/2025 10:50

Personally, I always found him singularly unamusing. This is really good news.

corlan · 13/12/2025 10:53

Love these men that talk about their kindness and fairness whilst happily riding roughshod over women's rights.

She's just started a podcast with 'The Rest Is ...' podcasts.

DonicaLewinsky · 13/12/2025 11:04

Another misogynist bites the dust.

LarryMiddleman · 13/12/2025 11:08

In my opinion he's a good example of that very common specimen in the British media: totally talentless but went to an expensive boarding school so is imbued with all the self confidence and entitlement you'd expect and assumes he has a right to this sort of job.

His standup is woeful, and he's not a man of science at all.

All this resignation is, is acknowledgement that you can't work for the BBC and go round shooting your mouth off about contentious issues at the same time. Gary Linekar found out already.

Beerlzebub · 13/12/2025 11:11

I'm just scrolling down his BlueSky feed. Post after post about how awful the bigot Sandie Peggie is 🙄

SisterTeatime · 13/12/2025 11:11

When did (some) people become so invested in their view of themselves as ‘kind’, ‘good’, etc to the exclusion of logic and common sense?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 13/12/2025 11:13

I hope Brian does it with his wife. That would be funny. Imagine the howls on Reddit and BlueSky!

And she does another great bbc science podcast - but still could have more Hannah!

I suppose the other person doesn't need to be a scientist though, as Brian does the sciencey stuff. There are many, many women who would be a great foil for Brian.

Ince’s working relationship with Brian Cox must be a bit weird, given that Gia Milinovich, who is Cox’s wife, is outspokenly GC. Ms Milinovich is on record as saying that Ince no longer speaks to her. I find it rather odd that Cox continued to work with him.

They also have Sophie Scott who's a neuroscientist on a lot, and she's a massive TERF too.
But maybe he didn't realise - looks like she's been on up to around 2022.

He fills the comedian slot. I'm sure there are plenty of people who could replace him.

I'm interested that he has happily shared the show with the husband of a known heretic for so long, but feels the need to leave now.

Greyskybluesky · 13/12/2025 11:33

Did he really write that his resignation was"a victory for the transphobes and other bigots" ?

Own your decision man!

HoppityBun · 13/12/2025 11:36

I have always found Robin Ince be hugely irritating. This just confirms my view that he’s a numpty.

MyrtleLion · 13/12/2025 11:40

He's saying he's forced to quit. But if that's true, then he has as much a discrimination case as Maya Forstater. I think the reality is as a PP said, that he has been reminded about the BBC impartiality rules. He has to stop posting about trans rights or quit. And he decided to stay in his high horse.

I used to know him quite well when I hung out with QI and other BBC people. He was always an arse and really despised and ignored women's opinions.

I agree it will be impartiality rules and him being fully on board with the omnicause.

He did say he wouldn't appear on panel shows without women represented, so he is principled.

The problem with him is that hes convinced himself that TW are women and any question around that is just wrong.

He'll talk about marginalised groups and fairness, but what he sees as fighting for the oppressed is just him refusing to listen others and not having the skills to really empathise with others and consider other opinions. He doesn't see that he, as a white rich man, is impossing his views on everyone. Which should be the last thing he would do?

I suppose to have the self confidence to get up on stage, does attract the people with egos.

Alpacajigsaw · 13/12/2025 11:42

What a self absorbed little prick

Indeed.

PollyNomial · 13/12/2025 11:51

Maybe it's changed but I always understood the impartiality guidelines to apply only to those covering news/politics. I can see why one has to be balanced working in those arenas, less obvious why that applies to a comedian on a science podcast that AFAIK never addressed most of the issues for which he got ticked off.

I take great heart that the FS "union" and its fans are rapidly and loudly complaining to the BBC about this cancellation. What's that? Oh.
