Shame really he’s a nice guy, a huge bibliophile, met him a few times at book signings, the last live show of his I saw he did shoehorn in “and of course trans women are real women” or some such nonsense.

guessing the infinite monkey cage is cancelled now, that was in my top five podcasts.

can’t do a popular science show and think women can have a penis though. Wonder what Brian thinks?

the video of his love resignation , presumably at the end of a monkey cage recording, is here
https://www.reddit.com/r/transgenderUK/comments/1plg02g/bbc_presenter_robert_ince_claims_he_has_been/

notably he doesn’t say how men in dresses are being treated badly. Everyone has a blind spot.

Ooh, I like Jessica Forteskew's Sturdy Girls programme.

Just heard a trailer for a new series of infinite monkey cage.

Presenters are Jessica Forteskew and Dr Adam Rutherford

I heard it too and my immediate thought was "great, I'll give that a listen". I stopped listening to TIMK years and years ago because of Ince.

Oh that’s interesting. I noticed Rutherford isn’t on the new Curious Cases with Hannah Fry.

Ince now on Bluesky saying his ADHD got him chucked off Monkey Cage and he knows loads of people who wouldn’t take the gig in solidarity with him. Also nobody told him it was coming back (why would they?)

Stopbringingmicehome · 16/10/2026 11:25

Curious cases is back with Dara O Briain. Hannah is superb I wish Rutherford was back. I cant listen to Dara he's so annoying even though I know he's suitably qualified for the job. Similarly the last edition of monkey cage , Rutherford and the scientists were good but the female light relief was dire.

Sorry yes - he has put out a podcast he describes as “a stream of consciousness about how ADHD both gave me the ability to do The Infinite Monkey Cage and also was ultimately the reason I had to resign”

It’s 25 minutes long so will leave him to it 😂

It rather sounds as though nobody else has ever presented a Radio 4 panel show.

Well, doesn't that sound fascinating.

Love to see this thread revived. Ince, pffft.

Has anyone listened to the new BBC podcast with Prof Brian Cox, A Question of Science? Seems it’s in to its second season already.

Oh gosh, he’s really struggling with it all isn’t he? Didn’t he say a while ago that he’d had a mental breakdown over Monkey Cage/Brian Cox/Gia Milinovich? Seems he’s still in the thick of it. This public ranting and unravelling is genuinely worrying. Hope Ince finds peace and a way to move forward with his life.

nauticant · 18/10/2026 13:27

Had a listen to the first episode of the relaunched TIMK. The presenters were trying far too hard with their attempts of humour many of which didn't land. I hope they dial this back and shift the slider away from a comedy programme doing science to science with a pleasant line in humour.

nutmeg7 · 18/10/2026 14:47

Much the best is The Rest is Science with Hannah Fry and Michael Stevens.

It’s interesting and funny, they are both experts and no-one is trying hard to be amusing like Dara O’Briain.

Better than Ince though.
Low bar I suppose.

Womanofcustard · 18/10/2026 15:45

Good riddance to bad rubbish

Lalgarh · 22/10/2026 11:58

Has Ince maintained his commitment to atheism and Richard Dawkins, by the way. It was earlier in the thread that a poster mentioned he used to be one of those edgy atheist leftish progressive guys who'd rate him in the 2000s.

It's just that his one time hero is fairly unambiguous in not believing Trans Women are Women

https://x.com/RichardDawkins/status/2113191993853522210?s=20

"JK Rowling. What a hero she is. She even bends over backwards to be kind to those poor deluded freaks who seem honestly to believe they really are women. But she rightly goes after those in positions of influence who “behaved as though women’s rights were out-dated and even meaningless. They created a climate of fear and intimidation whereby a single misplaced pronoun could see a woman disciplined.”

(Jk Rowling has updated her essay. There's already a thread on it)

Not much demand for the opportunity to listen to him & Josie have a matey chat about their correct opinions.

I expect it’s the cost of living crisis, people have to decide between heating and seeing an audience with Robin Ince and Josie Long - it’s a tough choice but you’ve got to do the best for your family.

DrudgeJedd · 23/10/2026 14:28

I'm sure their smug glow could keep the tiny audience warm

Waitingfordoggo · 23/10/2026 19:02

Oh gosh, I’m cringing. I know the CoL has affected the theatre and entertainment industries, but some touring performers don’t seem to have any trouble finding audiences. They do need to actually be interesting and/or entertaining though.

Lalgarh · 23/10/2026 19:35

At least with podcasts it's cheap. Has he got one?

You'd have to have a heart of stone not to laugh.

Oh. Book Shambles IS his podcast.

https://cosmicshambles.com/podcasts/

Why would anyone be particularly interested in paying money to actually be in the presence of a podcast host. I know Alistair Campbell and Rory Stewart have grifted a tour off their one but they are actually people who've witnessed actual stuff from world events and you could ask them questions. Ince and Josie Long? Asking them about radio 4? Their poetry? That they've been struggling in London to shift tickets is quite sad

This is all a bit Alan Partridge in his Oasthouse years

You'd have to pay me to go and see this. Who is the target audience for this kind of show?

timesublimelysilencesthewhys · 24/10/2026 11:39

They are appealing to an audience that don't go out, and are alienating an audience that do.

Lots of the people who do appreciate the message don't want or can't get to the events, they are more interested in spending their time campaigning against others. Its more fun for them to stop something being performed than see something be performed.

And that's the trap ince has got himself into. He is so on message he'll never be target by them, but thats so clear, no one needs or wants the content.
