Guiding - would you go back now?

My socials are full of very sad people being very sad that Guiding is for girls. It seems lots of leaders are threatening to quit.

i feel the opposite. If I find a unit that knows that girls need single sex groups then I’d volunteer.

That's what the word means and has always meant. There isn't another viable definition. (Is there one you want to suggest?)

If you want to name something else you need another word.

GG waved their pompoms for parents who knowingly shoehorned their vulnerable kid into a space that wasn't theirs.

When there is a multitude of other mixed sex activities that they could have enjoyed, including scouting with a v similar ethos and super inclusive vibe, why would you set up your own kid like that?

None of this is about what's best for children.

I’m a third generation Guide whose daughter didn’t become a fourth gen Guide due to the bollock pandering that has infested Guiding during her childhood years.

I have my nan’s (1930s) mum’s (1960s) and my (1980s) metal badges displayed together in a frame on my bedroom wall and I am very sad that my daughter didn’t have the same opportunity to join an exclusively female Guides (she attends an all girls high school though, which at least means she gets a similar experience to Guides via her school facilitated Duke of Edinburgh Award activities).

I will definitely explore options locally re: volunteering with a Guide Unit or a Brownie Pack in the new year.

if you personalise the need for safeguarding processes and policies you are proving to everyone that you don’t belong in an organisation working with young people.

Safeguarding processes are not personal. Everyone has to follow the rules.

It's going to take time to get women and girls' resources and organisations back out of the hands of the activists. Anything with the name women or girls on it was targeted, captured, the senior leadership stuffed with activists (and where possible men with trans identities) and all women resisting this scared into silence or got rid of. The whole purpose to these people of those resources were to turn them into vehicles consolidating how men are women and to get men irrevocably embedded in women's spaces. See Edinburgh Rape Crisis, perfect example.

These are the ones rending garments and wailing in woe at getting stuck with.. having to run women and girls things for only women and girls.

Hopefully the mass exodus of them to more exciting and male-centred pastures will be fast, and those organisations and resources will be taken over again by leadership passionate about the needs and best interests of the female sex, who finds them inspiring and enough by themselves.

They want everything. The bleeding hearts on TV the last 24 hrs won’t acknowledge that there are plenty of mixed sex organisations that men and boys irrespective of ‘identity’ can join. They hate us having anything that is just for us.

Despite the canine plopper’s yesterday claims to the contrary about ignoring the EA2010 and having a choice to be single sex with added trans inclusion they want everything to be trans inclusive and us never to be able to have anything that’s single sex.

They don’t want us to have anything that is just for female humans. But the more they push the angrier I get and I know I’m not the only one. A few years ago I would have said “TWAW but we know they’re not really but it makes they feel included” I would have used preferred pronouns again to be kind or polite. But no more. The more they push the further away I move from compromise.

Besides any other reasons for not wanting them there Rainbows waiting lists are incredibly long and every 4 year old boy on them prevents a 4 year old girl from having a place.

It's absolutely shocking that people are telling 4 year old boys that they are really girls.

They need the single sex spaces for validation, mixed sex just doesn't work for that.

With a four year old you have to wonder whose needs are really being met. A mixed sex group means no issues for them, no issues for anyone else either, and not locking the child into an identity at a very early age that will then be difficult to grow or move away from should they want to. Why set out to create these problems for a young child?

No one wants you killed or eradicated. I think most people just want you to get appropriate help (ie not affirming you as something you are not) and to get back into the spaces you belong. Men’s spaces.

No there won’t. GG and WI know exactly where their bread is buttered. The vast majority of users want it single sex so it will stay and the most people either don’t care or will make some comment about why Scouts isn’t SS.

I won’t send my kids to guides because I couldn’t trust them, they don’t understand why what they did was wrong, it will take a whole new leadership team to be able to have confidence in them after this.

I totally agree. I was a guide in the 1980s/ early 1990s and have so many amazing memories. It was my safe space where I could be me with no pressure to act differently due to it being all girls. We laughed, cried and had a blast together. We talked about lots of girl things eg periods, , relationships, .

i loved being a girl guide and felt a bit sad when scouts opened up to girls.
