The Bluestocking: it's the season of mulled wine, conversations about pineapple and, of course, gerbils. Confused? You will be...

Welcome to the anarchic and marvellous women-only on-line pub, the Bluestocking. The booze won't give you a hangover, the cakes won't make you fat, and the conversations are fascinating, covering knitting, health and safety, the Muppets and anything else that comes to mind.

Climb Peak Woo, have a cuddle with Rosie the Red Panda, and watch out for capybaras busy with any necessary building works.

Welcome in (and name change at the door if you need too).

I am soooo addicted to chilli rice crackers! I recently tried the Waitrose ones plus pecans & got into an 'A la Recerche du Temps Perdu' moment which mystified me for several days, until I remembered a variety of caramel popcorn with pecans which I used to enjoy. Marvellous.

Have you been in before, or have I seen your name somewhere else? Either way, pull up a capybara & sit down.

Waitrose are currently my favourite. It's my first time in here. I have a young child so free time is a rarity.

I agree with Boily's engineer. Anyone who clearly labels cables is a legend. Ideally with a colour coordinated system

I did actually use different colours of labels!

Of course you did! We'd expect nothing less!

Welcome RandomH. Pull up a gerbil and make yourself comfy.
Your username is reminding me of something but I can't think what. Maybe a book?

I have visions of me doing that, then forgetting which colour represents which piece of electronics.

Aw shucks, Myrtle [blushes and scuffs shoe on ground]Blush
I hope the meeting with stakeholders went well, and you and Mr Walrus have a very very pleasantly merry eveningSmile

That's really interesting, Sionnach, I hadn't seen that coat of arms with the impressive Irish Elk.
It took me a while to notice that on some badges in NI, the shamrock has been replaced by a flax flower - I've just spent ages trying to find an image of one but couldn't.

So the four flowers of the UK are the rose, the thistle, the leek or daffodil, and the blue flax flower - which is really nice because it's more colourful than the green shamrock. Esp if they use a daffodil for Wales.

I wonder who thought of it - nice ideaSmile

It did go well. Except my landline rang. No-one has the number. I don't know the number. Spam callers ring once in every four months or so. So I had to find it, shut it down then shut it down again when it went to the answer service. All on the answer service.

It was fine.

I'm also even more poorly ick. Cardiology appointment tomorrow to check the antibiotics are not affecting my heart.

Presentation to write and send to the printer on Thursday.

I'll be fine. Honest.

And you deserve our thanks 😍💙

I had to take photos of each one with the writing showing so that I've got a record in my phone!

Hypatia was an early philosopher I read about recently and I didn't want a username associated with me in real life so picked her instead. She had quite a few good quotations credited to her, but I don't know if any of them were really from her or made up by people who wrote about her later. The sort of things I'd like to say to people I work with regarding single sex toilets if I were 20+ years older and prepared to risk destroying my career.

I have unlimited data too. But I still feel like I’m camping when the real internet goes down.

Where I live, the WiFi is over 1Gb but the mobile signal is utterly terrible.so.we.are very reliant on it.

Hi Random. Take a seat by the roaring fire and here’s the biggest gin and tonic! Glad you took the courageous step of popping in.

I’m not a brilliant welcomer and usually wait for Marie, who is our welcome mistress. But I remember how I felt when I stepped in for the first time and wanted to say hello soon. We have snacks too.

Snacks?!

We have TUNNOCKS!

The gerbils really do have a talent for making things look amazing.

Although the decorations in their staff room are full on 70s tinsel. On all surfaces. I think they like the way it makes their fur stand on end if they rub along a wall or a sofa. They think static electricity is magic!

Is that why Gardenia and Gypsophila have staticked (not a word) themselves to balloons and are floating around the place?

RandomHypatia · 09/12/2025 21:26

Boily usually looks after them for us and is always very generous.

😂 😁

Swashbuckled · 09/12/2025 21:38

I think Boiley has just nipped to the Tunnocks stash so she can bring a pile back for us to share. She’s good like that.

Swashbuckled · 09/12/2025 21:39

Yes, Marie. I’d agree about Rimbaud. 🙂

RandomHypatia · 09/12/2025 21:43

First moving to Scotland many years ago served as a proper introduction to Tunnocks. Previously I'd only seen the tea cakes and knew them as a "bicycle bell" and they weren't in many shops round where I lived

Totally!

Boiledbeetle · 09/12/2025 21:47

I'm afraid the Tunnock's cupboard is empty. Gyroscope missed the order deadline by 13 seconds.

<Waddles off with 64 caramel wafers shoved under my jumper>

FuzzyPuffling · 09/12/2025 21:48

Did Gyroscope manage to order in any Dime bars? They're my favourite.

Oh, not again! She’s always missing that deadline…
