Dear @Britinme - Indifferent but not awful food mmm yes I have tried such food, sometimes being in a hospital makes the food look quite bad. When you go home you can have super nice food.

Sending a hug or two (((( ))))
Hope your lungs get better soon

❤️

Hopefully you’re asleep at the moment Brit but I’m glad you’re being well cared for.

Flowers To everyone on the poorly list at the moment. And BrewBrewBrewBrewBrewBrew

🌻🌺🌼 to all poorly Stockingers.

I have spent my morning so far catching up on the shenanigans at the BBC.

Maud has flown home ahead of the other gerbils in order to devout full time to making sure Knotty gets "The Maud" (as she's taken to calling it) for Christmas.

She has requested we do not disturb her whilst she is carrying out her important work.

I've moved down the list of Bluestocking Poorlies, thankfully - off the antibiotics, I have to 'keeping an eye on things' over the next couple of weeks and see if the symptoms flare up again, which I confidently expect they won't,Smile
Sending hugs to Britinme, glad to hear you're being well taken care of in acceptable surroundings, hoping your stay doesn't go on for too long!

And to Myrtle, who still has a bit more recovery ahead of her before being able to do this.
I've been amusing myself by thinking of accompanying music, which could be anything from a stirring bit of Beethoven, to 'Oh I Do LIke To Be Beside The Seaside'

I do hope it was a Covid test. Gary is not exactly a prince among men.

Gary had swaggered back from his lads’ gerbil trip sunburnt, smug, and full of stories he’d already told twice. Luton felt smaller now — the walls closer, the sofa lumpier, the washing piles taller than his sense of responsibility. Gnell, meanwhile, hadn’t stopped moving since he left: feeding, folding, soothing, scrubbing. Even the baby’s hiccups seemed tired.

Now, Gary sat in his corner kingdom, paws glued to his PlayStation controller, pretending the washing mountain didn’t exist. He’d promised to “catch up on a bit of rest” after his “stressful travel.” Gnell, holding a wailing infant and a toddler who’d just learned the word no, wasn’t impressed.

She stood in the chaos — a queen among baskets of laundry — glaring at her oblivious husband while trying to stop the toddler from using a sock as a dummy. The air was thick with domestic fury and fabric softener. Gary muttered something about “just finishing this level.”

It was the kind of silence that made even the baby stop crying for a second — the moment before Gnell decided whether she’d shout, cry, or laugh. Probably all three, in that order.

Oh poor Gilda.

Either way he's a tosser isn't he. His poor wife.

They've gone down to the pharmacy to get another test. Although given Gilda has a throat that feels like razor blades and a temperature it is looking likely someone (looking at you Gesundheit) picked up a covid test by accident.

lcakethereforeIam · 10/11/2025 12:32

Poor Gilda. Covid and a love cheat.

Thank you. Maybe it's the Born Free music? Very appropriate.

The car was serviced for a significant fault on the 27 October and the Walrus did a gallant job of driving over, then walking and getting a train back, then doing it in reverse. The fault has returned but the service can't be done til the 15th December. 😩 Very frustrating. The car is driveable but all the automated systems including cruise control stop working intermittently.

It's likely I will have to drive it over because he's so busy, and I should be off the pain relief by then, but I can't do the public transport journey. When we put it in last time he dropped it off at 8am but it wasn't in the garage until 1315. I shall probably have to sit there all day.

I've started knitting his Christmas stocking but inadvertently miscounted so three rows are stocking stitch, not moss stitch. He says he doesn't mind but I've run out of white wool to use on the heel, so I might rip it back - it is a quick knit - but I hate picking up stitches after ripping. I always seem to drop a stitch. I tend to unpick stitch by stitch if it's only a couple of rows, but this is seven or eight rows with a cable in the middle.

The stocking stitch at the beginning of the red is also a mistake but will be covered by the white cuff, so I don't care.

If there is any cosmic justice Gary caught it too.

I don't want to think about what Gary might've caught in Benidorm. Not off Gilda, of course, but he puts himself about a fair bit & he was there for several days before our girls arrived. The blighter.

The 'Born Free' music - Of course, Myrtle, you're right! Why didn't I think of that?
Or the theme from that film I've never seen about the chap never running on a Sunday -no, not the song by Melina Mercouri😁- 'Chariots of Fire'.

Your Christmas stocking looks lovely - I really like that shade of red, it's richer than a Santa-Claus-scarlet red.

Speaking of knitting - I came across this picture of you as a baby, knittedsloth -
what a cute little baby you were! - and I'm sure the many keen knitters here would love to know what yarn your mother knitted you from?Smile

I think I have some of that in my stash. 😁

I tried to crochet with it. Actually, knitting might be easier.

You mean knittedsloth might soon have a little brother or sister? 😃

I think I remember my mother knitted me from a very strong yarn made from hemp and silk, which has long hairs and threads on each stitch. Or she might have said it was silken hemp.

No, I forget what I was making but it wasn't a sloth. I was in my 'just learned to crochet, let's try every kind of yarn & see what happens' phase. I've got rid of most of those yarns now, but I think I kept one ball of the hairy one because you never know when it will come in useful, you know?

Maud is requesting a neck massage. Can someone send her a masseuse.

She has rather overdone the Battenburg today.

It's going to be a long week!

She may need even larger jogging bottoms by Wednesday.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 10/11/2025 17:37

Ignore me...

Edited

I mean the current ones are already a little snug on her, if she keeps eating cake at the same rate she'll need a larger pair by Wednesday and God knows what she'll be like by the 17th!

Magpiecomplex · 10/11/2025 18:16

Who's got the hot chocolate bowser, and can I borrow it please? Also very happy to divert some of Maud's battenburg in my direction, purely selflessly, of course.

EdithStourton · 10/11/2025 18:32

I can also help Maud out with the Battenburg. I'm just as selfless as Magpie.

I tend to peel off the marzipan and eat that, and then select which colour of sponge I'll consume first.

Our kitchen fan is currently losing the battle against the joint roasting in the oven. No time to roast it yesterday...

Magpiecomplex · 10/11/2025 18:35

I tend to peel off the marzipan and save it for last!
