Keira Knightley - they don’t accept her apology apparently

Has anyone seen the clip from a KK interview, doing the rounds on X?
Shes voicing Umbridge in the new audiobook.

She was asked ‘Are you aware that some fans are calling for a boycott, given JKR’s ongoing campaign against trans people?’ to which she responds ‘I was not aware of that, no. I’m very sorry’. Then laughs.

She then says ‘We’re all living in a period of time right now, and we’re all going to have to figure out how to live together, aren’t we? And we’ve all got very different opinions. So I hope we can all find respect’

TRA reaction is as expected.

And her ‘apology’ is Not. Accepted:

I don't accept Keira Knightley's apology for working with JK Rowling

Being a trans ally and a Keira Knightley fan are – to my grave disappointment – now mutually exclusive.

She wasn't apologising to trans people though?

Theunamedcat · 15/10/2025 07:33

Are they giving the men as much "disappointment"?

storminabuttercup · 15/10/2025 07:33

FFS, I don’t think she should apologise but suspect she was a bit ‘WTF’ Hence the nervous laugh.
i was once asked by a colleague not to mention Harry Potter because of the JK link. These people are nuts

Well, exactly.

But Emily Bashforth doesn’t accept an apology about that, regardless.

Hilarious!

The hyperbole in that article was grade A daftness. How do such sensitive souls get through the day?

There's their world, and there's the real world.

Who is Emily Bashforth and why does anyone care whether she accepts Keira Knightley's "apology" or not?

Does Emily Bashforth perhaps have an incredibly overinflated opinion of her own importance?

TheBlueHotel · 15/10/2025 07:39

She wasn't apologising. She was clearly laughing at the question. She said the word sorry in that English way meaning 'sorry you are being so ridiculous'

This her?

seems Keira has read her website 😁

She is a trans ally, and upon hearing the news KK was involved, said it was a ‘knife through her heart’ (a ‘particularly sharp’ one).

It’s hard for me to pick a favourite line in this article, so many to chose from!

As the saying is these days ‘There’s always a tweet’ (or an article in this case) 🤣

She seems incredibly silly.

Sillier than she should be at the age of 26.

ArmySurplusHamster · 15/10/2025 07:49

Emily Bashforth needs a good —

Why, ‘editor’, of course. What did you think I was going to say? And possibly a nice lie-down in a darkened room.
Embarrassing fourth-form drivel.

Bashforth, Bash Back…

There seems to be a lot of bashing around at the moment.

RoyalCorgi · 15/10/2025 07:55

It's interesting to see how this is all going to play out. Actors are being pulled in two different directions. On the one hand, they don't want to upset the trans bullies - and it's been very clear over the past few years that they will go to some length to appease them. Anything rather than face the horror of speaking out and being cancelled.

On the other, they really don't want to turn down the opportunity to appear in a lovely, juice, lucrative Harry Potter adaptation.

What to do? It's quite the dilemma. We've seen people like Nick Frost try to have it both ways (taking the role and saying he disagrees with JKR) but unfortunately that isn't enough for the trans bullies.

Meanwhile, JKR sits at home counting her wads of cash and chuckling.

Tiredofwhataboutery · 15/10/2025 08:08

I don’t think she was apologising to trans people. I think she was a bit nervous but paraphrasing I wasn’t aware of that, I’m sorry. We are just all going to have to learn to live together and respect each others opinions.

I don’t really know Keira Knightly former stance on trans ally ship or indeed if she had one but it sort of read to me that the whole thing is becoming a lot more irrelevant. TRAs are still objecting but obviously not working because no one gives a shit.

I think the days (apart from the loyal few) of Celebs prostrating themselves on the trans alter to prove they are the purest of allies are over. the TRAs haven’t helped themselves here because they’ve allowed perfect to become the enemy of good. How many times hsve we read about some former ally whose been cancelled / twitter pile on because they’ve dared to hsve a dissenting opinion about one little thing. It’s like being in abusive relationship where nothing you can do/ say will ever be good enough and they will find a reason to berate/ abuse you.

The TRAs only real power was having a platform and a voice thst was listened to and they fucked it. The corporate money has gone. People aren’t listening (or at least pretending their not) so you can say I don’t know but wouldn’t it all be lovely if we can just get along as if you were dealing with difficult 4yos.

It's the first time I've seen anyone who has been asked that question, just look a bit nonplussed.

Sorry, no, what controversy?

If it's deliberate, it's a perfect answer. If it's genuine, it's also a perfect answer.

Trans what? Eh?

Brilliant 😄

Datun · 15/10/2025 08:19

Maybe the next person who gets asked can give a bit of an eye roll and a 'whatevah'.

CrocsNotDocs · 15/10/2025 08:21

All I ask is that I don’t wake up tomorrow and read Keira has debased herself in a struggle session.

QueenClinomania · 15/10/2025 08:22

I really really hope she doesn't cave. This bollocks needs to stop.

LittleBitofBread · 15/10/2025 08:26

Well, Keira has gone way up in my estimation.
Masterful use of the classically British 'I'm sorry this is such a stupid question' sorry.

Yes, it's difficult to believe that she had no idea about the controversy whatsoever, but she does a good job of appearing perplexed. The advantage of being an actor, I guess.

It does feel as if the attempts to bully people into submission are losing their power.

borntobequiet · 15/10/2025 08:43

Good for Keira.

Off topic, but IMO she’s a very good actress when playing modern women but miscast in period pieces, where she simply doesn’t look right.
