Keira Knightley - they don’t accept her apology apparently

Has anyone seen the clip from a KK interview, doing the rounds on X?
Shes voicing Umbridge in the new audiobook.

She was asked ‘Are you aware that some fans are calling for a boycott, given JKR’s ongoing campaign against trans people?’ to which she responds ‘I was not aware of that, no. I’m very sorry’. Then laughs.

She then says ‘We’re all living in a period of time right now, and we’re all going to have to figure out how to live together, aren’t we? And we’ve all got very different opinions. So I hope we can all find respect’

TRA reaction is as expected.

And her ‘apology’ is Not. Accepted:

I don't accept Keira Knightley's apology for working with JK Rowling

Being a trans ally and a Keira Knightley fan are – to my grave disappointment – now mutually exclusive.

Yes, she'd have been fucking raging that she couldn't get a gender recognition certificate and inherit the house.

But that's the point. Even if she'd had a GRC she couldn't have inherited. For inherited titles and entailed land only birth sex counts - it's a specific exemption in the GRA.

SirEctor · 15/10/2025 10:47

You know what it reminds me of? When you are making a half hearted attempt to 'hear' a child who is being unreasonable. Like 'You wanted spaghetti for dinner, I didn't know that, sorry. But tonight it's shepherd's pie, that's what I've cooked and that's what we're having and you'll just have to make the best of it."

Basically just 'Come on. Get a grip'.

Actually that’s how it came across to me. She was channelling mummy mode. ‘Yes, dear, I hear you. But we’re all different and that’s okay, isn’t it?’

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 15/10/2025 11:48

She was apologising for not hearing about the boycott.
Love her.

Well yes, exactly, and she'd have been up on her soap box about that.

It would be.

Because it benefits men.

Petitchat · 15/10/2025 12:13

"she decided to, albeit subconsciously, remain blissfully ignorant in her cisgender privilege"

Some people never seem to learn, not only is there is no such thing as CIS, it's rude and insulting to project this imaginary word onto others.

Bugger off !!!!

Petitchat · 15/10/2025 12:16

My usually sensible adult dd, tried to call me cis once.

Much as I love her, I don't think she'll do it again....

Gosh. The irony.

Learning To Be An Assertive Woman When Society Wants To Silence You | Emily Bashforth https://share.google/RnFd4coOML636ubsT

I don't think I need to read the article thanks to the excellent highlight-posting here, but as well as the other snippets, point 3 of "10 Ways to Learn to Love Your Body" on Emily's website also proclaims

"3) Accept what you can't change
Certain areas of your body can be changed, either through diet or exercise, and whilst it's okay to change these things as long as you are doing so for the right reasons, other parts of your body just can never be changed. The birth marks, the wrinkles, the acne, the colour of your skin, the freckles, the extra weight in various areas... these are all things unique to you and which contribute towards your beauty. Focusing on them too much can take away precious time that could be spent loving yourself. So, instead of hating the things which make you special, learn to embrace and celebrate them. Acknowledge how poisonous it is for you to want to change your little quirks and paying so much attention to things that will always be there does not benefit you." (my bold)

All sounds very sensible, Emily!

SirChenjins · 15/10/2025 13:05

Emily's article reads like something a very earnest 17 year old with an over-estimated sense of self would write as they proffer the world the benefit of their fledging wisdom. Meantwhile, the grown ups make supporting noises and go about their business unimpeded.

Sad times for Emily - I hope her wee heart recovers.

I think maybe a lot of people in the entertainment industry have read the room - cancelling doesn't work any more. They tried to cancel JKR and she's more powerful and more wealthy than ever with a load of new Potter productions in the pipeline. They did cancel Gina Carano and Disney ended up having to pay her seven figure compensation and issue a grovelling apology. Dave Chapelle and Ricky Gervais had the biggest ever Netflix comedy specials with 'transphobic' jokes. All the actors in the HP series who stood by JKR or stayed neutral seem to be doing well - more so than Rupert Grint and Dan Radcliffe. Scarlett Johannsson was forced to pull out of the trans-man role so a trans actor could play it and what a shock - it's never been made. Roisin Murphy had a hit album and tour despite her record company pulling all her publicity and cancelling her.

Meantime the trans allies like Jameela Jamil and Emma Watson have hardly had very stellar careers over the past few years.

I hope Keira doesn't cave. NB her mother is a feminist playwright who is also Scottish. Like fuck they've never heard of the gender wars.

Ugh. What a load of whining, whinging, pathetic, self-pitying horsehit! B-B-B-But TRANS people might be SAD!
OH NO!
And so pouty too! I DO NOT accept this apology on behalf of all trans people everywhere (that she didn't make anyway) so there!

tobee · 15/10/2025 15:13

She's good in Official Secrets!

ScoldsBridal · 15/10/2025 16:14

Trans male actor Jake Graf will be very disappointed as he played a character called Gaston in the film Colette with KK in the titular role. He leapt to the defence of Eddie Redmayne when he starred in J K Rowling’s Fantastic Creatures - but Redmayne was quick to distance himself from JKR and said TWAW, TMAM etc… even though he said people shouldn’t attack JKR for her views. I wonder if Jake will attempt to petition KK for an apology?

Martharian · 15/10/2025 16:21

Jake Graf who incidentally has been posting this week about how her work opportunities involving trans training/advocacy etc are dwindling away

The saddest of times.

SardinesOnGingerbread · 15/10/2025 17:00

I've always thought of her as being rather wet (watching her roles, clearly I've never met the woman), so this made me do a double take. I don't care about which side of any fence she sits on, just bloody hoorah to the woman for not dissolving into a puddle at the sight of bullying. I'll watch her new boat thing now.

JanesLittleGirl · 15/10/2025 17:01

I'm sure that KK gave that response because she is too well brought up to actually say "I'm sorry but you appear to be confusing me with someone who gives a shit".

So the gravy train is grinding to a halt.

Maybe some public money can be spent on places that actually benefit people that deserve it - like disabled provision. Or have ‘LGBTQETC’ spent it all?

LittleMonks11 · 16/10/2025 07:44

She’s great in Black Doves if you haven’t seen that. She’s defo not a weeping willow in that. I can’t see her being cowed into saying anything further because she said basically let’s allow people to agree to disagree and have different views on things.

I've got one thing to say to Emily Bashforth:

"Allyship" ISN'T A WORD. The word you are looking for is ALLEGIANCE. You dumbass.

I'll get my coat.

TheaBrandt1 · 17/10/2025 06:39

Exactly Jane. She’s a midlife working mother why would she care about this? Heard her on Woman’s Hour she sounded really nice she was saying she used to be picky about her roles but now her family are based in London if the role is located there she takes it no matter how crap it may be.

TheaBrandt1 · 17/10/2025 06:47

Also now Taylor has done a song lampooning cancel culture. She makes out cancelled women are fun wicked in a good way women being punished by the establishment- well thats another nail in the coffin of the TRAs who love to cancel women.

Hah! I thought I disliked this word because it's virtue signalling twaddle, but you're right, it's not a word.

Ah, I did wonder why she was being denounced as a Nazi by the bekinders

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 17/10/2025 13:15

It would be interesting to see whether Taylor Swift is as uncancellable as JK Rowling.

They are both among the most successful living artists in their chosen field.

They have fairly comparable net worth.

They are both women who have made it to the very top in a man's world.

They have both been famous for a very long time.

Taylor Swift is a different generation and comes from a different culture, but like JK Rowling she has a strong core of close friends and family who I think would stand by her even if Team Be Kind tried to cancel her.

I doubt we'll ever see her come out in support of Team Terf, but if she did, the fallout would be fascinating.
