The Bluestocking, where the short days shorten and the oaks are brown

Welcome all, regulars and newcomers, to the Bluestocking Women's Pub, a place of refuge and inspiration and camaraderie and silliness, where all alcoholic drinks are non-intoxicating, cakes contain no gluten, sugar or calories, but still taste yummy, and the attentive staff are small but very professional rodents wearing snazzy little outfits.

Other roles - such as acting as foot stools, looking decorative in the garden, or just being impossibly cute when you need something impossibly cute to go awwww at - are filled by a team of miniature pigs, quokkas, wombats, etc etc.

If real life is difficult, you can bring your troubles to the Bluestocking and a comfy chair will be found for you at a roaring fire, a miniature pig will settle down happily to support your tired feet, and a gerbil will serve you promptly with a comforting drink - very large G&Ts or massive mugs of hot chocolate with extra cream and marshmallows are popular choices [don't forget: no calories in the BluestockingSmile].

MN is misbehaving for me ( looks like it's not just me) so reading, posting and reacting is very hit and miss. If i go awol im just hiding out til it gets fixed.

Thanks for letting us know Fuzzy - I was going to ask how you were, you weren't well the other day and in need of hot chocolate from the gerbils so it's good to know that if you aren't around for a bit, it's tech not healthSmile
Hope the MN misbehaviour gets sorted!

Oh me too. I assumed it was just me. Nothing happens sometimes when I click on anything.

Poor Myrtle, the road to recovery is proving to be longer and twistier than hoped. I'm really sorry to hear that the effects of the antibios may stay continue for so longFlowers

I hope you are in a position to focus 100% - well, high 90s, anyway! - for a while on your health. It's the basis for doing anything else, like jobhunting and interviews, so do you think you can 'clear the decks' for the next month, say, and concentrate on nothing but taking extra special care of yourself with lots of rest and good food and being pampered by the Admirable Mr Walrus?

Thank you 💙

I have cleared the decks as I am no longer live pasting from tribunals and I am sending apologies to a committee that I was just elected to. I wanted to step up and be one of the officers, but I need to focus on being well. I'm just sleeping a lot. The walrus brings meals upstairs and is chauffeuring me to hospital appointments.

I applied for two jobs on Friday and Sunday and I have another (dream job) to do this week. The recruiter is keen for me to apply. Financially we're fine, but what I do is quite niche and no jobs were advertised over the summer so it's frustrating that some of them are coming up just as I need to do very little.

MarieDeGournay · 28/10/2025 11:23

The timing of the job ops is very frustrating, Myrtle. I understand that you want to strike while the iron is hot, so good luck with the dream job, and take extra good care of yourself around the practical stuff you have to doSmile

Yesterday when I was buying something else I saw a roll of washi tape with capybaras on it. I bought it because capybaras. I've no idea how or when I'll use it. 'The Bluestocking Effect'Grin
I had a chat with the woman behind the counter, she also had no idea that capybaras were 'A Thing' until like me she stumbled upon an entire online universe of capy key rings, mugs, cuddly toys, t-shirts, figurines etc etc.
She said that she was in Belfast Zoo recently and the capys are treated like rock stars..
We concluded that capybaras are the new meerkatsSmile
I didn't mention their valued role in maintaining the Bluestocking
🙃
This is a photo of the Belfast capys, from some time ago. We missed the chance to respond to the Zoo's request for names for the babies, we'd have aced that, wouldn't we?Smile

Yep and yippie, there were kids who begged for the skin of the custard in the bronze like jugs, that they slopped over other monstrosities AKA pudding.

🤣

Banned, I'm almost disintegrating with laughing ... Your scornful description completely captures the sheer horror of the School Pudding

The Bluestocking has a museum room, well worth a visit if you happen to be passing

I think I need a cocktail after spending much of today shouting at my laptop whilst watching the tribunal. Poor dog has retreated to his bed to get out of the way. Perhaps the bar gerbils can invent me a suitably soothing concoction?

EdithStourton · 28/10/2025 17:15

Oh Myrtle, I'm sorry that getting better is proving so long winded. Take care of yourself.

I won't be around much for a few days, we are visiting rellies with young DC. Wish me luck.

AsWithGlad · 28/10/2025 17:19

Were you able to watch Kelly v Leonardo, @FarriersGirl? The senior man who appeared as the witness for Leonardo gave responses in a similar vein.

Naomi Cunningham was the outstandingly good barrister for the claimant. I think by the time she had finished with him his eyes were fully open to the awful situation. That might be too much to hope for tomorrow, though.

FarriersGirl · 28/10/2025 17:38

@AsWithGlad I wasn't able to watch the Kelly tribunal although I have read TT and the thread. I have met too many men like these in my professional life. Smug, ill informed and often lazy, willing to take the credit when all things go right. Quick to throw anyone under the bus at the first sign of trouble. 😱

inkymoose · 28/10/2025 18:35

I'm enjoying mooching around the Bluestocking Museum. It's a bit dark, but Copilot seems to like dimly lit scenes.

Does anyone have suggestions as to what else to exhibit?

We need a Gallery of Sparkly Things.

I love the illuminated galleon, inky!

I’ve not been popping in recently because I’m juggling two big project type things. Both have a connection to Bear, but both very stressful. Would be easier if they came along one at a time, but they’ve both come at once. Not getting much time to chill and be with the screen. I have managed to follow the Darlington thread at stolen moments and have now caught up.

Banned, I do remember the “Eek!” and the Boily Tunnocks heist. I was initially confused by your post and thought someone was stealing your identity! But all clear now 🙂

The cocktail menu?

ErrolTheDragon · 28/10/2025 19:11

I’ve not managed to follow any of the current tribunal threads - whereas an odd dip into MN during breaks/computer doing something are ok, they’re not really work compatible.

Hedgehogsrightsarehumanrights · 28/10/2025 19:21

The history of the bluestocking would be mind blowing. We would have to set up a steering group, and various sub committee's who would be responsible for designated key themes.

Such as

the record of animal adoptions, dates, lists, losses.

births deaths and marriages.

The customer profile regulars, passers by, and leavers

party’s

food themes.

hissy fit episodes (obvs not my fave subject)

To name but a few.

I prefer anarchy myself.

Much appreciated. It's interesting how AI seems to have forgotten how to spell again.

I have sneaked the odd peek at the tribunal updates but have been preoccupied by today's other important thread on a serious subject: Cauliflower Cheese Conundrum in AIBU. It is astonishing how stubborn about being Wrong some people are.

Well that’s the effect of the cocktails, or the Beordoc in the top left which appears to be some sort of fungus. Confused
